If you understood the quote introducing this section, then you are the perfect candidate to play The Simpsons Game. This is a funny, amusing, and highly enjoyable title, but there are a few issues that keep it from reaching game immortality. A little more gameplay innovation, coupled with a tweaking of the controls, and this could have been one of those games that stand as a must-own. As it stands now though, fans of the show will love it, and that's really the primary audience anyway. Cancel your appointment with Dr. Nick, drop Grandpa off at the Retirement Castle, and tell Patty and Selma they'll have to come over another night, you've got better things to do.

The Simpsons Game on hauska huumoripläjäys. The Simpsons Game on myös tylsä tasohyppelypeli.

"…it's time for the final word. The Simpsons Game is a unique title. This excellent, unusual and highly amusing story is coupled with humor that's consistent throughout the game and genuinely funny, up to the standards of an episode of The Simpsons TV show. It is this, combined with the whole cast of wacky stereotypes from this little town called Springfield, which saves the game from sinking into mediocrity. Yes, the gameplay often involves derivative platform jumping, simple puzzles and basic fighting - and apparently the camera can be a bit of a nuisance - but the variety of game-parodying levels on offer, the authentic graphics, the wonderful voice acting and the diverse soundtrack help it rise above mediocrity to become greater than the sum of its parts. So, in conclusion, if you are even a casual fan of The Simpsons then you will doubtless find plenty to enjoy in The Simpsons Game to justify your purchase. This is Kent Brockman, reporting live from Springfield, for AceGamez."

The Simpsons Game deserves credit for the way it dares to make fun of other games and the games industry in general. However, by focusing on the satirical aspect, the actual gameplay has suffered quite a bit. Because of the simple combat, often annoying camera and run-off-he-mill puzzling and platforming sequences, The Simpsons Game just isn't as good as it could have been. Nevertheless, it's a game everyone should at least rent, because the unique atmosphere and great sense of thumour are things that shouldn't be missed.
GameTrailers (Nov 01, 2007)
The Simpsons Game is a good time in spite of the somewhat mediocre design and technical glitches. Considering that the license is notorious for being slapped onto downright awful games, most fans will probably decide that good enough really is good enough. If nothing else, this playful romp packs enough in-jokes for both Simpsons fans and gamers in general that it’s definitely worth playing through at least once.
Computer Bild Spiele (Nov 07, 2007)
IGN (Oct 29, 2007)
The Simpsons Game is exactly what it had to be, but nothing more. Had it offered online cooperative play, or local co-op play that was actually as much fun as the single-player game (if not more so) then the score would definitely be higher, but as it stands The Simpsons is a very enjoyable, though very, very short, single-player game that both hardcore and casual Simpsons fans will love. Heck, if you like to laugh then this game is at least worth a rental.
Gamer 2.0 (Nov 09, 2007)
In the end, what you are presented with is a very solid Simpsons title. Its humor, as stated, goes beyond just pleasing regular and hardcore Simpsons fans. The self references mixed with cultural ones are worked out brilliantly, and hopefully it spurs the show’s writers to step up the effort and return it back to its roots. So aside from the camera, the game is just find-diddly-ine to go on out and pick up. Woo hoo!
Daily Game (Nov 21, 2007)
Easily the best use of a licensed property, but by parodying old gameplay mechanics, the game reinforces just how tired we've gotten of the same elements that the game itself relies upon.
Console Monster (Nov 30, 2007)
All-in-All, the Simpsons is good, but not stunning. The entertaining one-liners and simple 3D platform aspect of the title will keep you going for a few hours, but won’t have you playing until your eyes fall out. That being said, there’s still something about The Simpsons that pushes the score to a respectable one, whether it’s the genius originality of the storyline, or just the simple fact that it’s The Simpsons, it’s still worth picking up and trying.
Ripping on such topics as the console war, old video game characters, and gaming cliches, The Simpsons Game is the best episode of The Simpsons imaginable, only in video game form. It does, however, only last 6-7 hours, which I guess would be good for a season of the TV show, but this is a video game. There are extra challenges and 2 player co-op, but that is not enough to keep you interested for long. Mindless collectibles throughout the game only offer a tiny bonus, making them worthless. I recommend The Simpsons Game as a great rental for any Simpson fan, or comedy enthusiast. Just do not bother to purchase this with how little there is to play.
Cheat Code Central (Nov 01, 2007)
Simply put, this is the Simpsons Game fans have been waiting for. Even with its faults, I would dare say that no one will complain too much, mainly due to being doubled over from laughing so much. If you need an enjoyable game to pop in that makes you laugh to a degree worthy of the longest running animated television show in history, then this is for you. You'll be playing for hours exploring the world of Springfield and then, after a quick break, you'll want to dive right back in.

GameZone (Nov 26, 2007)
You don’t play The Simpsons Game but rather you experience it, and that alone is worth a glance or two if you’re the proud owner of the PS3. While it’s not as engrossing as The Simpsons Hit & Run, the humorous off-the-wall levels still makes this a fun game for fans of the series and any gamer who likes their platform games with plenty of humor will find a lot to like about this game.
Like many Simpsons fans out there, I was hoping that this would be the title to turn it around for America’s favorite animated family in the video game arena. With two-player co-op and a focus on the humor that has made the show a primetime staple since 1989, The Simpsons Game has everything a fan could want...but not everything it needs to be a fun, interesting game.

Is it funny? Yes. But so is watching the re-runs of the show. Unfortunately, passive TV-watching participation is more fun than playing the game itself.
1UP (Oct 29, 2007)
But while the action can be uneven -- though never bad -- creativity and charm carry the game to a higher level. The humor will get you through the slow levels, the authentic voices and writing will satisfy your fanatcism, and the cameos (be it Matt Groening and a popular game designer who we'll keep under wraps for spoiler reasons, or levels featuring Kang and Kodos or the killer dolphins of "Treehouse of Horror" fame) will keep you entertained. It's not a great game, but it's a very good licensed product.
Game Tap (Oct 30, 2007)
Ultimately, it’s all pretty basic stuff. There’s nothing particularly fancy about the actual game mechanics and it’s somewhat odd that The Simpsons Game makes fun of various videogame clichés (such as not being able to swim, using levers or pads on the ground to open doors) and then turns around and uses them about a dozen or so times. I understand that the experience is supposed to be a parody of games as a whole, but that doesn’t seem like a valid excuse when it actually makes the whole experience feel a bit tedious at times. But it’s worth pointing out that playing the game cooperatively (through a split-screen option) makes the game a little more fun to play, since computer-controlled partners are nothing more than a damage sponge, but it also makes it much easier. If anything, you’ll at least get to see all of the great cutscenes quicker.
GameSpy (Oct 30, 2007)
After playing lackluster animation-based games like Futurama and Family Guy, it would be understandable if you were wary of The Simpsons Game. Luckily, this game isn't nearly as bland as those two examples. Sure, there are a few problems, but it's worth, say, dealing with the busted camera to see which videogame the writers are going to parody next.
GameSpot (Oct 30, 2007)
In the end, The Simpsons Game is one of those weird cases where a recommendation of it is based less on its merits as a game and more on its merits as an experience. The things that make this game are its sense of humor, sharp writing, and excellent presentation. The gameplay isn't awful by any means, but it's also completely unmemorable. It's something that's more to be put up with while you appreciate the many other things going on than enjoyed on its own merits. That might not sound like a ringing endorsement, but The Simpsons Game is absolutely worth playing. Games this spot-on in the humor category don't come along too often. Considering what a fantastic job it does spoofing the variety of clichés and crutches our favorite pastime relies upon, that's got to count for something.
That Gaming Site (Sep 20, 2008)
A mediocre gaming experience saved by exceptional dialogue and humour.
The many flaws of The Simpsons Game all point to one thing: a rush job. With the game announced in May for a targeted Fall release, is it any wonder that corners so obviously needed to be cut. Someday The Simpsons license will go to a developer willing to put the time and effort into making a game worthy of pleasing long-time fans and hardcore gamers alike. For now however, we'll have to settle for the big laughs and underwhelming action of The Simpsons Game.
TotalVideoGames (TVG) (Oct 31, 2007)
Despite enjoying the continuity of an episode (or twelve) and the throwaway self-referential comedy that made the TV show famous, The Simpsons gets stuck with mediocre, generic gameplay, and confusion over who exactly the game is making fun of. One for fans.
50 (Nov 02, 2007)
EA will of course say that the gameplay is as refined as it needs to be for its target audience, which is probably Simpsons fans on the younger end of the gamer demographic. And, admittedly, in two-player co-op mode there is some fun to be had. But with all the game references surely there's a bit of it that's aiming at a more hardcore player. For these gamers, The Simpsons Game, unfortunately, won't cut it. And with an RRP of £49.99, I can think of much better games to spend my hard-earned cash on this month. Rent if you have to, otherwise avoid.
