Description

A modern remake of the original Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Bowl Throwback is an arcade recreation of American football. Players can instantly switch between the original 2D sprites, or an optional HD mode with new 3D players and arenas. Audio likewise includes the original arcade sounds, or newly mixed mimicry of the originals.

Both teams and players are unlicensed. However, all 32 teams and their rosters can be renamed and customized. Players can play a one-off Pre-season game, a series of games in Season mode, or put the best against the best in All-Star mode. Players can also face off locally or online, and season results can be posted to online leaderboards.

The new 3D visuals match the animation style and routines of the 2D original, so the pace of the game and overall strategies remain the same. Offensive players still pick their play, and defensive players still guess which play the offense picked (instead of selecting their own defensive formation). Plays are limited to eight at a time, selectable with a combination of button press and D-Pad direction. No audibles or advanced football techniques are included.
