Way of the Samurai 3“ viele Stunden netter Unterhaltung.
The game would be better without its flaws, of course. However, as it is, it’s a fascinating combination of different gameplay elements, and it works surprisingly well. Anyone who likes swordfighting, the freedom of an open-world, and the opportunity to shape a story would be well-advised to pick it up. It turns out that Japan’s Sengoku period is a blast, at least when the blood’s not real.

You have to really be in love with the central design concept Samurai 3 is built on to appreciate what this game is and isn't. If you aren't sold on having your choices carry with you for the rest of the game, this game is likely going to collect dust on your shelf. Samurai 3 should get a lot of credit for being different and standing out from the crowd, but there are some issues close to the heart of the game that you need to balance first. This is one of those hard games to recommend because everyone will have a different opinion based on their experience, which I'm sure the developers intended to some degree.
GameZone (Oct 21, 2009)
Way of the Samurai 3 won’t be a huge hit with the masses. There are certainly enough annoyances here to keep gamers from wanting to play it. But the combat elements are strong enough that, if you are the kind of player that is capable of mustering some endurance, you should push past the weaknesses and give it a try.
IGN (Oct 16, 2009)
Way of the Samurai 3 is built upon a solid idea, but the actual implementation isn't carried out nearly as far as it could be. With limited areas to explore, some mediocre combat mechanics and a hit-or-miss impact from your actions, it's hard to recommend it without pause. If you're really into the setting and want to play around with cause and effect, you might find something interesting here. Just don't expect it to be the GTA of feudal Japan.
Way of the Samurai 3 is a great idea that is just lost in the past. The developers really had an opportunity to fully realize the potential of the game with the new hardware and failed. Still if you enjoy the series there is enough here to get you back into it. Multiple endings, tons of weapon customization and plenty of replay offer up a package that is a must buy for fans of the first two games. Just don't expect to come into it and be blown away by the advancements in the genre. This is the same game you played years ago and PS2, and it even looks like it.
Meristation (Mar 15, 2010)
Eurogamer.it (Feb 22, 2010)
GameSpot (Nov 30, 2009)
You can finish the game in less than 10 hours, but you'll spend three times as long unlocking everything and triggering all the different events and endings. However, limited areas and repetitive quests drastically undercut Way of the Samurai 3's replayability. Though the game's cause-and-effect focus is highly distinctive, its gameplay comprises mundane, barebones mechanics that seem almost archaic, while a troublesome camera and choppy frame rate further limits its appeal. Way of the Samurai 3 has its entertaining moments, but its lackluster next-generation debut provides little advancement over its predecessors.
3D Juegos (Apr 22, 2010)
Teletext (2010)
Underneath the sub-par graphics, glitchy camera and dodgy mechanics there's a great game waiting to be unearthed (and given a bigger budget). The period feel and the sense of a real world environment with its own rules and culture comes across well. But without the gameplay to back it up all the fine ideas and enthusiasm just fade away into another frustrating and quickly repetitive misfire.
PSFocus (Mar 19, 2010)
Everyeye.it (Feb 23, 2010)
