F1 Grand Prix

Einfaches F1-Spektakel mit aktueller Lizenz für zwischendurch, aber mit dummer KI.

If you're after a racing game for your new PSP thereâs no doubt that Ridge Racers and Wipeout Pure provide more exhilarating and enjoyable options, however F1 presents a down-to-earth experience despite its lack of authenticity.

Le pire a été évité avec ce F1 Grand Prix qui aura su garder un aspect de simulation malgré quelques errances au niveau du pilotage. Un bon nombre de détails font que ce titre ne fera cependant pas date mais son potentiel lui permet de rester agréable à jouer. Disons que l'essai est satisfaisant mais pas complètement concluant et qu'une fois certains défauts gommés, le jeu deviendra vraiment attractif. Un bon titre cependant.

With so many racing games due out on PSP before the end of September (at last count, F1 is up against WipEout, Ridge Racer, TOCA 2, Colin McRae, WRC and Burnout Legends), we're being forced to ration our racing puns, but, if we must, it's hard to imagine this making it to the front row of the grid. Or even the second. If you want some F1 to send you to sleep, try the Sunday afternoon version on ITV. It's a lot cheaper, too.

We thought that if any company would have mastered the art of handling with a vehicle on the PSP, it would be a game published by Sony. Even if you're a fan of the previous Formula One titles you may want to give this one a miss, there is just far better alternatives available for the PSP right now.

But overall it's a lack of conviction that keeps F1 Grand Prix in the pits. It's not immediately captivating enough to succeed against the other arcade racers available on PSP such as Ridge Racer and neither is it sufficiently detailed or in-depth enough to satisfy motor racing fanatics who want the last word in realism, as found in TOCA Race Driver 2. All in all, it makes F1 Grand Prix a tough game to get excited about unless you're an avid Formula 1 fan, which means we'll be leaving it in the garage until next year's inevitable follow-up.

Verschenkte Chancen soweit das Auge reicht. So eindrucksvoll Traveller's Tales das Drumherum des beliebtesten Rennzirkus' auch einfängt, so bemüht wirkt das Spiel selbst. Während die Fahrphysik nach kurzem Einarbeiten noch überzeugt, schlittern die verhunzten Rennen knapp an der Katastrophe vorbei: Packende Zweikämpfe sind das A und O einer Formel 1-Umsetzung – keinen einzigen werdet ihr hier austragen. Die KI darf unter „nicht vorhanden“ abgehakt werden und frustriert mit rüpelhaftem Verhalten, die Pole Position ergattert ihr auch im schwersten Modus sogar nach üblen Fahrfehlern. Und wenn nach den schnell durchgezockten Meisterschaften nicht mehr als zehn kurze Herausforderungen und ein minimaler Multiplayer-Modus anstehen, gibt es kaum einen Grund, die UMD nach spätestens einer Woche nochmal ins Laufwerk zu schieben.
