MediEvil Resurrection is a really good action-adventure game for the PlayStation Portable. If you are a fan of the series or genre then I highly recommend picking it up as it will provide you with many hours of entertainment.

But when it's all said and done, MediEvil Resurrection is a satisfying action game. The combat is solid -thanks to the vast arsenal- and the funny dialogues and the game's ever present wittyness put this far ahead of your average action romp. Too bad the camera prevents a higher score. As there are pretty much no comparable titles on the PSP (save for maybe Spider-Man 2), fans will have to resort to this one. Resurrection will most likely be surpassed by several titles in the near future, but, on its own merits, the game deserves a fair chance. I for one would love to see Dan again.

Medievil Resurrection is largely the original PSX game with the addition of some new levels. This does not at all detract from the fact that it is a fun game to play. In fact, by making the transition to the handheld it is interesting to see how much the technology has improved. On the PSP this game is all the better with improved graphics and gameplay.

However, MediEvil still has its charms, and I think that fans like myself will find their time spent with Resurrection well worth it. Everyone else will continue waiting for the PSP's first great action title.

Personally, I have to admit to missing this gaming franchise. It’s a great series with well-paced humor, an interesting premise and a likeable Everyman kind of hero. MediEvil Resurrection does a great step towards returning Sir Dan to gaming prominence by reintroducing the title to a new platform, along with packing in a ton of mini-games that are truly engaging. However, the camera issues and combat problems complicate this version of Sir Dan’s adventures, making this one less than perfect, but more than adequate as a basic platformer.

If you loved MediEvil on the PSOne, you're going to go nutso for MediEvil: Resurrection. And if you don't have any previous knowledge of the property, all you need to know is that it's a solid, albeit formulaic action game that you should take or leave depending on how important things like story and humor are to you. Love to laugh? Get this game. Just want to play a great action game? Rent, or perhaps look for something else.

With the 19 levels and 70 mini-games we have here, there’s a lot to dig into. The game looks great. It’s definitely one of the more beautiful titles to look at in the PSP library. Unfortunately, the lack of fundamental necessities like better camera functionality and fighting mechanics end-up weighing down the experience. We simply need a camera that controls better. The shoulder button tap will line things up, but it still doesn’t help us see enemies that are attacking us off screen with range weapons. And as far as fight mechanics are concerned, I understand that Sir Dan is a goofy character and he’s supposed to look a certain way when he fights, but that shouldn’t be at the expense of the player’s ability to effectively take on the threats in the game. In sum, this is serviceable port of the original and it’s worth checking out if you like humorous games.

Certainly, it's worth checking out to reminisce about the PSone title, but this follow-up doesn't quite rise to today's expectations.

While fairly on the generic side, Resurrection does manage to offer a decent platforming experience for gamers searching for something new. Fans may choose to pass over this production since the execution and style overall is essentially the same as the original. I, for one, hope that Sony eventually brings some of its more popular platforming all-stars to the PSP (or at least a new take based on the MediEvil franchise), since the current genre selection is greatly lacking innovative hits.

Raaaaar!

Worth Playing
MediEvil Resurrection is a proper release to fill what has become a massive gap between MediEvil games; but without a proper sequel on the horizon, this remake/repackaging seems a bit aimless, and somewhat disappointing for fans looking for something fresh and new outsides of cleaned up graphics and the portability factor. Despite its look, Resurrection is so clearly a PSOne game at heart that it is difficult to stomach as a modern release, and despite the extremely slick production values, it is not the sequel fans were hoping for, nor the proper modernization that the series deserves.

The gameplay of MediEvil just doesn't translate well to the PSP. It's especially disappointing because the characters, story, art design, and overall presentation are funny and unique. In fact, the game holds up quite well until you actually start playing it. At that point, it just falls apart.

Overall, the game is a satisfactory diversion on the PSP that’s hampered by some control and camera issues. It could have been a lot more fun.

In conclusion, MediEvil: Resurrection should not have been resurrected from the PlayStation cemetery. The bone-headed enemies, abhorrent camera angles, tedious combat, and slowdown all make this one of the most disappointing PSP games to date. I'm afraid not even Fortesque can save this game from a bad review score. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should buy this game. If you like to be frustrated, you might enjoy yourself.

MediEvil: Resurrection is definitely one of the PSP's lesser launch titles. There's nothing particularly poor about the game and in fact it's quite humorous in parts. The low frame rate, clumsy camera angles and a combat system that feels a little basic are the real flaws of the game. That said if you haven't played the MediEvil games before and fancy an action game for your PSP it will certainly fill the gap until something more substantial comes along.

Medievil works on an acceptable level as a portable title -- mainly because it offers quick saving anywhere within the game -- and there's enough length there to keep absolutely determined players going for some time, unlike, say, Spider-Man 2. On the other hand, the original PSOne title, while lacking the cut scenes, tepid minigames and superlative Tom Baker, goes for around ten bucks on eBay. We're just pointing that out for the purposes of comparison, you understand.
