Unless you're reading something between the lines that was consciously unintentional, you will undoubtedly conclude that I love this game. If you want to love this game as well, all you got to do is get your hands on a copy. It's that simple.

In the end, I would say that Capcom has crafted yet another amazing piece of software for my favorite handheld. Keep them coming, guys! Some of us here really like this series and can’t wait for Monster Hunter 3…for whatever next-gen console. To those of you who fit that bill, this game will have to tide you over until that day.

Lastly, the game can become quite addictive if you devote enough care into it. With over 250 quests, 70 Monsters, 700 different weapons, 1,400 pieces of armor, and a handful of different locales, for the type of game that it is, MHF2 has a lot going for it. And if it has the power to start drawing in a person that’s simply doing a review of the game, a person that doesn’t even really go for this branch of gaming, then there has to be some good things going on in this title.

The bottom line is, if you like RPG's and Adventure games, then you'll really enjoy Monster Hunter Freedom 2. Just about everything from the visuals to the attention to detail and depth in this game lends itself far more to a PS2 gaming experience than your typical PSP gaming experience so for this Capcom should be commended. The only real overriding issue I see with this game is it definitely has that "built for the Japanese market" feel to it, and this could repel some gamers in the PAL and US regions. You really shouldn't let this turn you away though as Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is really up there as one of the better PSP games around, and it is a prime example of why this platform can be much more than just a portable time waster.

Despite its kooky issues and demoralizing difficulty, Monster Hunter Freedom 2 has totally succeeded in becoming our go-to game for the PSP. Its huge world and endless supply of items and doodads are more than enough to occupy a player for months.

Overall there’s a whole lot to this game. There’s pretty much something that’ll appeal to everyone who picks this title up and gives it a shot. Although, it might take some getting used to or a forgivable attitude towards the game because of the game’s lack of a lock-on feature, funky yet workable camera and frequent load times. The Monster Hunter games have a great deal of potential and with this the future releases may only get better.

Worth Playing
Monster Hunter 2: Freedom is a remarkably detailed game with a level of depth that is usually reserved for full game consoles and PCs. If you can deal with the frustration of battling with the horrible camera control system and the often mind-numbing inventory management, Monster Hunter 2 has a lot to offer, especially to fans of role-playing adventures. If you have a group of friends, the multiplayer mode will provide countless hours of fun.

MHF is, at times, so slow it might put you to sleep if you're not careful. I just wish this game's world were wrapped around some truly awesome gameplay. As it stands, it's like a promising Christmas present that turns out to be one of grandma's sweaters.

This is the epitome of a game that about .002% of the gaming public will probably love with a passion, and the remaining 99.998% will be utterly baffled by it. Consider me firmly in the latter group. I spent most of my time either collecting items that I had no use for, or struggling with a very uncooperative camera. Like Naruto (and countless other PSP titles), it looks great for a portable but it’s dragged down by horrendous load times. If you are one of the small group of people that’ll really get into this game, however, you won’t be lacking things to do thanks to the mammoth amount of quests.

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is a solid title with a lot of customization, amazing graphics, and lots of freedom. With the lack of online play, tough camera, and a difficult battle system, the game suffers in key areas where the PS2 game shined. Although the game has a large quest log that will keep dedicated players around for a long time it will also scare off more timid gamers. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is an improvement on the first Freedom but still falls short of its PS2 brethren.

It's easy to admire Monster Hunter Freedom 2's ambition--it has many of the ingredients of a good online RPG. But to handle all those disparate elements, you need a recipe for success, and that's something the game lacks. There's no coherent system or vision underneath all the quests, items, and monsters, and as a result the overall product is much less than the sum of its parts. While it certainly offers plenty of meat for those who decide to bag it, there is certainly better game elsewhere.

Bogged down by far too many elementary mistakes and faults, Monster Hunter Freedom 2 is not a worthwhile purchase. Not unless you know three other PSP owners that live nearby, are willing to spend time in the same room as you and can pick up a copy for themselves. Then it has something. Otherwise, it's a no-no. Two thumbs down.

I can imagine the sort of person that might actually enjoy this game. This person spends hours on a train every day and has no money to buy any other more worthy title. This person also enjoys the most mediocre video game experience over an entertaining CD, podcast, book, or manga. This person absolutely loves killing time. To this person, I not only recommend this game but also extensive therapy. To everyone else – if you have too much time to kill on the train, just look out the window. It’s cheaper, more rewarding, and hey, the graphics are better.
