Gorgeous graphics, solid gameplay, and a wonderful audio track make this version of Spider-man 2 a winner. This is one game that gamers deserve to see on the PSP, simply because of the “wow” factor. Vicarious Visions and Activision have taken a solid game experience and made it feel right at home on the new system. The only stumbling points this game faces are that it is a relatively short game, and the camera can be a bit of a bear at times, especially when you need to move it for glancing about during intense combat sequences. While it is hard to judge exactly what gamers will be treated to down the road, this game signals the next generation of gaming handheld experiences.

The big story with Spider-Man 2 on the consoles was web slinging. There had to be something for you to actually attach to, the physics were great, and you could roam through the entire city almost at will. Sadly, these things are gone in Spidey’s PSP adventure, but it is a solid, if unexceptional, action game. Cheers to Vicarious Visions for making this entry look way better than its console counterparts, but I’m sad that the controls didn’t fare as well in the conversion. Sticking to walls is entirely too easy and camera control on the d-pad isn’t an optimal configuration.

For those fans looking to play a 3D version of the Spider-Man games on the go, the PSP version impresses technologically and provides good fun while it lasts. It would be nice to have a longer main adventure or some mini-games or something to give the game a little bit more meat on its bones, but if you temper expectations, Spider-Man 2 delivers on its promise.

There's a lot of gameplay variety found in Spider-Man 2. And if you can manage the troublesome control scheme, then playing as Spidey can be a heroing feat for a few hours at a time.

It takes a while to warm up to this Spider-Man adventure, and the problem is, it doesn't last long enough once you have come to grips with it -- we literally beat the game on one battery charge (and the PSP isn't known for being overly generous with its battery life.) Switch to Hard mode as soon as you get the hang of the game, or you'll wreck later levels for yourself with too easy an experience.

If this is Sony's idea of the PlayStation 2 "in your hands", they just lowered the standards of PS2 gaming substantially. In many aspects, this game, coupled with the other launch titles, proves the PSP may not be up to the hardware quality that we were led to believe. With some blocky textures, low-detailed character models, and slow-down, this game will remind you more of Dreamcast hardware than PlaySation 2. That's not to say Spider-Man 2 isn't a good game, and it also doesn't mean the graphics are a complete let-down. The videos between action sequences are a sight to behold on a handheld. On its merits, you'll find this experience joyful. Just don't expect a console version.

Spider-Man 2 includes several different difficulty levels, some unlockable production art, and a few other minor extras. The game itself is of good quality and offers a healthy challenge. The bite-size levels would probably be well suited to the Spider-Man fan without the time or inclination to play for long stretches. Still, there's not much to keep you coming back, which may be a tough pill to swallow in light of the game's full retail price. So this isn't exactly the most overachieving action game around, but it's not a bad showcase of what the PSP can do, and it's generally entertaining for as long as it lasts.

The biggest problem with the game is, without a doubt, the length. Since it lacks the open, free roaming qualities of the PS2 version, this rendition of Spider-Man 2 feels far more confined, and most of the missions can be completed in a matter of minutes once you know where to go. Given the steep price tag, being able to finish the game in just a few hours is a big complaint. Just the same, the action is consistently fun, even if it’s not original, and the game shows off the PSP’s visual abilities nicely.

Thanks god Vicarious Visions delivered the delectable Spider-Man 2 on PS2 before this soulless dross. Treat this like an eight-legged creature on your wall and squash it flat

Had the game been released at a bargain price, it would almost be acceptable. At $50, it's a rip-off. Even for a die-hard fan of the character, there's just not enough here to keep you occupied or playing. It's not a terrible game, just one with hardly enough to offer to make it worth purchasing.

While short development times for launch titles are unavoidable, when the PSP is surrounded by such a stellar lineup of better-looking and playing games, it's hard to recommend Spider-Man 2 over games like Twisted Metal: Head On, WipEout Pure, and Ridge Racer (among others). The kids will get a kick out of it for sure, but for the price, wouldn't you rather pop in that free copy of Spider-Man 2 (the movie) your PSP came bundled with?

In order to fit into the portable motif, however, the design and length of individual levels has been severely cut back. In theory, that's not a bad fit, as you won't always have time for a thirty minute level when you're on a five minute bus trip. The practical reality, however, is that the short level length combined with challenge that's so thin it's practically translucent means that the entire game can be completed from start to finish in under a couple of hours. Comparing it to the now budget full console game, Spider-Man 2 is a hard game to recommend to any PSP owner.

As a quickie bargain bin platformer it’s not horrible, but as a full price launch title, I have serious reservations. You do not get a whole lot of replay value from it however….if you took this game to work with you and you work a 9 to 5 shift…you could be done before the day is over…you might even be done before lunch. The store aside, there aren’t many unlockables and ‘gallery’ isn’t something I’m going to fire up to show off the capabilities of the PSP. If you are going to spend $49.99 on a game you want to feel as though you got some value out of it, and I definitely don’t feel like this is the case with this one. Enjoy the movie UMD and skip this one until it hits the bargain, and only then if you’re a die hard Spidey fan.

Spider-Man 2 is not a very impressive or fun game and the actual game play offers little. Once you figure out the controls, you should be able to complete the game in about three or four hours. Afterwards, you will probably want to get rid of the game as soon as possible. I know I never plan on playing this game again.
