Pay attention. I don’t have a lot of space here, and this is important. Take three of your PSPwielding friends and each of you find a copy of this game. Wirelessly connect by ad hoc if you’re all close by, or find a wireless location and go online. Play through the mammoth multiplayer-enabled campaign, and don’t forget to check out the extra characters or the new flashback comic book-based missions that you couldn’t get in the console release. Revel in the pixel-perfect CG and destructive, slowdown-free gameplay. You can thank me later.

X-Men Legends II is a great continuation of the original hit game, and makes the transition to the portable gaming realm very nicely. Check it out if you are a comic fan or a lover of deep and engaging action-RPGs.

Regardless of whether you're a fan of the X-Men or not, Rise of Apocalypse is a fun game that will have you glued to your PSP for dozens of hours. It may get a little repetitive towards the end, have some slow down problems, and have an interface from hell, but even if some faults this ends up being one hell of a great handheld experience. With online play it's easy to see how people could still be interested in this long after they've beaten Apocalypse. Not only is X-Men Legends 2 a great RPG, but I dare say it's best on the PlayStation Portable. If you still haven't experienced this adventure then this is the version for you.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is one of the most amazing action-RPG’s of the holiday season. Whether you are a hardcore X-Men fan, an RPG-lover, a single-player, or a multiplayer, this game has something to offer everyone, and with more than 70 branching levels and over 100 potential hours of gameplay, there is a whole lot of X-Men and Brotherhood action just waiting for you to explore.

The sheer amount of stuff packed into this UMD disc is really worth the purchase price. My only real problem is with the load times. Performance issues of this sort mar an otherwise excellent PSP game. If you’re looking for a really dense yet enjoyable game with tons of high quality content, XMLII is it. If you're a Marvel fan who also owns a PSP - shouldn't you already have this game?

Technical glitches aside, this is an excellent port of the console title that doesn't cut any corners with the story or a number of the features in the game, which is a feat in and of itself. Plus, the additional exclusive characters further boost a title that already has tons of replayability. This is perhaps the title that will prove that action RPGs can work on the PSP, and comic book fans will enjoy taking their favorite heroes and villains on the go for some serious beat 'em up portability.

Overall, X-Men Legends II is a lengthy and fun adventure that anyone with a PSP and an interest in superheroes or beat-'em-up games will certainly enjoy. It doesn't do anything new or groundbreaking in terms of gameplay mechanics, but the cast of characters and the story are more than enough to make it worth playing. The game takes about 20 hours to finish, but when you do, you can play it again on a different difficulty setting.

Everything that was successfully implemented in the first game is back and better than ever. The PSP version deserves even more praise for a number of reasons. X-Men Legends 2 feels like it was made for the PSP. This style of dungeon crawler is ideal for quick bursts of action on a handheld and the addition of four player co-op sweetens the pot. If only the PSP could receive some original content and overcome its slight technical failings, titles like these would go from impressive to great.

In the end X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is one of the best games this year for the PSP and one of the only solid RPG experiences out there right now. If you love the X-Men, or decent action RPG's than you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot - and if you're a gamer on the go then this game is even more of a perfect fit for you. Buy it or rent it today!

Minor gripes aside, this is yet another top PSP game that you’d do well to check out, even if the RPG element might have put you off initially. X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is an instantly playable game with some real depth, and does both the legendary series and the genre justice.

X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse will definitely scratch the itch of those looking for the rare action/RPG for the system, and it'll delight all X-Men fanboys and girls. Graphically, it can be too impressive for its own good at times, and the online experience doesn't quite measure up to that of the consoles, but it does more than enough things right to make it worth a look.

Worth Playing
X-Men Legends II on the PSP is a remarkably faithful but also remarkably flawed version of a great party game. It's excellent for tuning everything out during a long road trip – and yes, this is tested with bitter experience – but you'll want to bring a car adaptor for your PSP. The only problem that this game really has is that it's imperfectly adapted for a portable console, so if you're going to get one version and you want to take it on the road… get this one. It'll save you some headaches.

It should go without saying that if you already own one of the home console versions of X-Men Legends II: Rise Of Apocalypse, then you can almost certainly live without the PSP version. Having said that, if you like dungeon bashing games and mutants, it's a good title to have, and one of the better ports to PSP we've seen of late.
