Puzzle Quest 2 lives up to fans' high expectations and delivers a fun and lovingly addictive evolution of our favorite gem-matching RPG. The only downside is the inevitable economic crash caused by everyone abandoning their jobs to sit glued in front of their consoles in frenzied, non-stop gem-matching benders. Damn those Aussies!

If you’re a fan of the first game in the series, or even a fan of Bejeweled or Tetris and other puzzles games within that vein then you’re going to love Puzzle Quest 2. The addition of Achievements and the Xbox LIVE integration just gives what was already an amazing game an added layer of polish which will almost guarantee hours of fun for absolutely anyone who decides to lay down the cash for it.

Puzzle Quest 2 is a worthy sequel in every measure. It improves the look and feel of the original, successfully builds on its mechanics, and still feels different enough to provide a sense of novelty and newness. If you're looking for a satisfying way to pass the time, this quest is most certainly worth checking out.

As a whole, to any fan of RPGs, as well as puzzle games, I have to recommend you purchase this game. It is fun, addictive and will take you hours and hours to finish. I know there are some people that will be playing this game for the rest of the summer, and they have a very good reason to be. They have taken the almost perfected formula of the first game and made it better, while inviting in new players to experience one of the best puzzle games I have ever played. I hope you all have some space cleared this summer, because one you jump in, it’s really hard to back out.

'Puzzle Quest 2' is a true sequel that improves on the original while keeping all the aspects that made the original a hit. 1200 MS points is a small price to play for a game that will virtually last forever. I am still playing the original ‘Puzzle Quest’ years later, which is a testament to the quality and addictive nature of this extraordinary mash-up. If you like gem-styled matching games and want something more out of your average match-up, 'Puzzle Quest 2' is a safe bet.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to this: is the game still fun, especially for those who had their fill of the original? There’s no doubt that this is a better overall game, and it’s going to provide enough new puzzle styles and beneficial changes to draw in people who are already Puzzle Quest fans. It’s easily the most fun I’ve ever had with a puzzle game (yes, that includes Tetris). However, this still isn’t your game if you were born hating match-3 games, or you’ve been aging your hatred long enough to put it amongst the finest reserve wines. And for anyone who simply hasn’t tried Puzzle Quest or match-3 games, I only have one thing to say.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords was one of the most addictive games of all time. Its blend of genres and stunning gameplay left lines scored in touch screens and tiles burnt into televisions. Now, the sequel has managed to improve upon the original in every way, even fixing the AI, which many believed "cheated" before. While it doesn't attempt to reinvent the gameplay in every way, the chances are numerous, and, as Galactrix proved, there's something to be said about staying true to your roots

Hiccups aside, Puzzle Quest 2 is a fine sequel that is sure to please fans of the original as well as draw in plenty of new players. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't really have to. Combine the solid gameplay with a budget-minded retail price of 1200 Microsoft points ($15), and you have a game that's difficult to pass up.

Like the first game, Puzzle Quest 2 takes a simple casual affair and adds layers of depth you won't be able to resist. Even though the quest is long and your customization options seem to be limitless, it still works as a game you can pick up and play for short sessions. This is the Puzzle Quest you fell in love with, and the new dungeon exploration and usable items only sweeten the deal. If only all of life's problems could be solved by matching colored objects together.

All in all, it is easy to recommend this excellent game, bringing the series back to the level of quality of the original, after a few lackluster releases. It is fun, it is addictive and it is quite cheap, at least on the Xbox 360 and the PC. It also does another great thing: it manages to bring together the casual and hardcore audiences. This is a title that can be enjoyed by everyone and it teaches basic concepts of role playing to non-gamers, easing in the eventual crossover to more complex experiences.

Puzzle Quest 2 doesn't have the fresh, "gotta-try-it" feeling of the original title, but for those who enjoyed the ideas behind Puzzle Quest but weren't thrilled with the execution, this sequel is a no-brainer purchase. It feels like a breath of fresh air…relentlessly addictive fresh air.

Puzzle Quest 2 is a great game, make no mistake about it. But the spark I had for the original is likely gone forever. It may not be the revolution of the 2007 release, but D3's newest Xbox Live Arcade game is definitely worth playing through. There's more than enough content for you to get your money's worth, even if you are burned out from the first game.

The PC version of Puzzle Quest 2 rivals the DS when it comes to deciding which version is better. Unlike the 360, where you have to rely on the analog stick, the ability to use the mouse/trackpad provides the same feeling as using the stylus. The PC version also features voice acting originally included in the XBLA version of the game. Another great thing about the PC release is that the bigger screen really lets the character animations shine.

Puzzle Quest 2 is a worthy sequel to the original title. Despite some parts of the game being more simplistic overall, the exploration of the catacombs is far more enthralling than the over world from Challenge of the Warlords. With a lengthier adventure, extra types of mini-games, and an improved layout, Puzzle Quest 2 still retains the flair of the original title. The DS version's touch screen controls are seamless but at half the price and with more features overall, the 360 version is the one to buy. Check it out if you enjoyed the first game, you like puzzle games or player customization, or if you're just looking for a great game for the price (360) or going on a lengthy trip and want something to play (DS).

If you drained every last drop of fun out of the first Puzzle Quest, you may not find enough here to evade an overwhelming feeling of deja vu, but if you never caught the bug the first time around, definitely give this a shot. Yes, it's an absurd premise. Yes, the RPG elements are very shallow. Try it anyway. Just don't be surprised when you notice the sun coming up.

It's nice to see Infinite getting back to what made Puzzle Quest great in the first place. This sequel does a fine job of keeping and improving on the good parts while layering on the sort of character progression and strategy that makes you want to keep plowing ahead, long after the game would have otherwise gotten boring. I'd lean toward recommending the Xbox version because, well, I like achievements, and because it's half the price of the DS cart. But whether you want to play on the couch or on the go, Puzzle Quest 2 is a great way to wile away a few minutes, or a few hours.

Puzzle Quest 2 isn’t going to set the gaming world on fire with its inventiveness, and that’s particularly obvious bearing in mind that Infinite Interactive released such a similar game three years ago. For most, that won’t matter, and it shouldn’t. Puzzle Quest 2 is as fun as the original, and offers enough new content for old hands that they should want to revisit the series. Fair warning, though -- while killing that rat swarm is of the utmost importance, remember: you have people who love you and don’t forget to bathe.

Rather than a wholesale re-imagining of the franchise, offers the next evolutionary step in gameplay. It continues the original's fantasy style mechanics, in an amped-up, slimmed-down, better-looking version that adds a new camera view as well as new quests, spells and weapons. A game that can just as easily be played all day or for only an hour, is a solid, if somewhat safe addition to the franchise.

If you can get past the traditional issues that have plagued touch based games since their inception, as well as the hefty $9.99 pricetag, Puzzle Quest 2 is a game that is very worthy of your purchase. Even though it is far from the game-changer that its exemplary predecessor was, the core mechanics are as entertaining as they have ever been, cementing it as a solid successor to the Puzzle Quest throne.

Puzzle Quest 2 is a hard game to rate. The gameplay in the match three section is excellent, and you can play it for ages. Sadly the quest mode is not that good, and it soon started grating on me. As you can experience the gameplay without venturing into the quest mode at all the game gains some goodwill. The omission of a multiplayer mode is a setback, as it can definitely be done technically. In the end I can recommend the game to any fan who have already played the first to the end. For newcomers of the series start with the original before purchasing Puzzle Quest 2.

When savored in this manner, Puzzle Quest 2 is exponentially more engaging than the original. Sure, there's still plenty of room for improvement -- but there's no doubt in my mind that the contents of my DSi's cartridge slot are now spoken for for the foreseeable future.

Even hardcore gamers admitted a weakness for the original Puzzle Quest. Thanks to the addition of even more RPG elements and a greater depth of strategic options, no one’s gonna lose any gaming cred by firing up Puzzle Quest 2. Simple, addictive and fun, with just enough complexity to keep things interesting, Puzzle Quest 2 is a “casual game” winner.

It's appropriate, then, that the best-looking part of Puzzle Quest 2 is also its strongest element--the gem-matching puzzles themselves. Because of the simplified approach to the role-playing half, the puzzles are left to carry the game, and they do so with aplomb. Puzzle Quest 2 is a fun experience that keeps your attention for the 15 or so hours it takes to complete the game (without tackling its many side quests), and despite its RPG-lite approach this time around, it's a game that's easy to recommend.

Puzzle Quest 2 is much more than a simply slapping a fresh coat of paint onto the first game and calling it a sequel. Fundamental changes have been made to both the RPG and match-3 portions of the game with the result that emphasis seems more on combat than role-playing and exploration. Players who thought Challenge of the Warlords got bogged down under the weight of its epic fantasy setting will appreciate Puzzle Quest 2's more streamlined approach. Personally, while I found the match-3 as addictive as ever (the "one more round" hook is still firmly in place), the streamlining of the world around it made the game seem like that much more of a grind.

After two years of nothing but rocky seas, Puzzle Quest 2 manages to right the ship and correct the course. D3's newest Nintendo DS game is everything you could want in a sequel, from improved graphics to enhanced gameplay. Still, the freshness of the original is likely gone forever!

Nintendo DSGame Revolution
Puzzle Quest 2 is helped more by the return to the classic Puzzle Quest puzzling than the classic Diablo dungeon crawling. The linear exploration, weapon and armor systems, mini-games, and graphics are all passable, but don’t shine nearly as bright as its addictive (and again, delicious) match-3 gameplay. The repetitive nature can wear on you if you play Puzzle Quest 2 for more than a few hours, but it’s still one of the best pick-up-and-play, zone-out-for-a-while titles the Nintendo DS has to offer.

Overall, I feel the game is a big improvement on the original title, but some of the key features of the first game really should have been carried over to Puzzle Quest 2. Although the mini-games feel much more integrated in the latest release, there could have been a citadel style element to the game up in the city which included all the features of the original. Progress has definitely been made, but there are still elements which are sorely lacking, which really need looking at in any followups that Infinitive Interactive are to release.

Puzzle Quest 2 has its problems, that much is for sure. People that are expecting the exact same experience from the second game as the first was able to give them are probably going to be at least a little disappointed. But the game does harbor some fun puzzling RPG elements in it, and though they're not perfect, they are fun to play through. Look past the problems, and you'll find a game that's still pretty darn addicting.

As with the first Puzzle Quest, then, the concept is what's truly brilliant - the one-more-go aspect of spatial challenges threaded into the reward schedule of an RPG. While the middling implementation's been somewhat improved this time around, the result is still a game that's supremely effective rather than genuinely brilliant. Its fantasy is largely bland, its puzzle mechanics tend towards the flavourless, and yet it remains frighteningly talented when it comes to targeting your compulsions. I still don't love Puzzle Quest - not yet, at least - but I'm not quite ready to stop playing it either. I've seen the future, and it's still magnolia.

Simplicity seems to be the new direction of the series. Veterans can say goodbye to the deepest features from the original game, including city-sieges, building citadels, capturing monsters, and researching spells. Filling the void is a vapid story and a stream of battles that require marginal skill and yield tons of loot. With the addition of weapons and improved A.I., the puzzle-based combat has more potential than ever, but Puzzle Quest 2 lacks the challenge and depth that made the original so memorable.

D3 struck gold once, which is fantastic. Aside from the titans of the gaming industry, many developers have trouble creating a truly innovative title that's also good, old-fashioned fun. That was Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. However, after two major mistakes with what's essentially the same design, one has to wonder if they should throw in the towel on this franchise. No matter the class, variety in gameplay quickly boils down to formulaic exploitation of broken design. The lack of genuine difficulty leaves the game flavorless, and the omission of something even mildly resembling the city of the first game boggles the mind. For the Bejeweled addicts, this game may be time well spent, but for the rest of us, this game should be quarantined and left to die.

Unfortunately, performance problems plague Puzzle Quest 2. The game freezes for half a second each time you match gems during combat. Since this is all you do, the slowdown gets very annoying very quickly. And while the puzzling might be awesome, the questing feels dull. You navigate by touching the entrance to various areas, and talk to people by touching them. The process moves at a snail's pace, with too much time spent in between the gem-matching fights.

Most RPGs are meant to be played steadily, but Puzzle Quest 2 is most assuredly not the sort of game to be played at length. In short bursts separated from each other by lengthy periods spent doing something else, the mechanics remain entertaining. If someone tries to play Puzzle Quest 2 in a marathon session, the sense of déjà vu will increase, with each room and fight blending into an indistinguishable lump of tedium. Since the game has nothing but combat to offer, this is not a recipe for happy gaming.
