If you plan to pick up only one QUAKE add-on, DISSOLUTION OF ETERNITY is the one you should get. With bruising, nonstop action; sprawling levels that are lovingly designed; and a number of gameplay-enhancing additions, DOE is a space marine's dream.

This pack is another demonstration of the flexibility of the Quake engine, and another that proves that add-on missions can be better then the original game. If I were to make a comparison, I would have to say I liked Scourge of Armagon a teensy bit more than this pack as I admired the level design a bit more and the new weapons a LOT more. The end boss here blows Armagon away, though. The dragon's flight animation and plasma-spewing breath attack make it simply one of the best end level bosses of any game, period. Either way, this pack as well as Armagon both blow the original Quake out of the water. If you're a Quake fan, and want to continue to hunt Quake minions, this pack is for you. Bottom Line: Another winner for Activision and the wonderful developers at Rogue. Level design is excellent, new enemies are imaginative, and the end boss blows all the rest away. New weapons could have been a little more interesting. This mission still outshines the original Quake.

A worthy addition to the Quake family. While it may not be as original and innovative as Armagon, the gameplay and variety is far better. If you love Quake, buy it.

Some of the new additions include the killer lava nails, a nasty floating specter, disembodied swords, a magical shield and not one, but three new bosses including the legendary Dragon. The only problem (and it was a problem with the first pack) is that you'll need some real muscle to play these levels without a cut on the frame rate, as the design is complex and even beautiful throughout the fifteen (plus) levels. That aside, even if you didn't think much of the initial Quake levels, the fact remains that this is some of the finest first person shooting action you can get.

Activision's Quake Mission Pack 2 -- Dissolution of Eternity is a great addition to any Quake-lovers' hard-drive. The levels are very challenging and not just because of the number of enemies -- there are some great innovations employed. If you're really into multiplayer, the additions sound like a lot of fun (but, like I said, I haven't tried them). If I had my choice between DoE and Scourge alone, I would probably pick Scourge simply because I liked the new weapons in Scourge better. If you play deathmatches and/or difficulty level is more important to you, pick up a copy of DoE -- I don't think you'll be disappointed.

DOSGamezilla (Aug 17, 2000)
Quake Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity is a good, but not great, addition to Quake. It provides large levels with lots of nasties, and it adds a great deal of new creatures, weapons and options. Considering the price (around $25), it is a pretty good deal for the average Quaker lusting for more action. However, in spite of its good qualities, it's difficult to follow Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon, and Dissolution ends up left in its shadow. In spite of this, Dissolution is a solid addition to a great game, and although it may not measure up to its big brother, it does leave all the other add-on competition in the dust.

Even the single deathmatch level offered in the game lacks the austerity that makes for a classic network fragging arena. But Quake players who enjoy variations on the multiplayer game should enjoy the options that Rogue has included: Players can host variations such as Tag or Capture the Flag. This pack is worth buying for players looking to further their Quake experience. But with its labyrinthine levels and some frivolous additions, Dissolution of Eternity lacks the same inventive quality that made Armagon a seamless continuation of Quake.

Grając w DISSOLUTION OF ETERNITY nocą przestałem się dziwić, dlaczego zabroniono w Niemczech sprzedaży wszystkich tytułów spod znaku QUAKE.
