Quarantine

Take the thrill, excitement and plot of Crazy Taxi and place Duke Nukem in the driverseat. This is how I would describe Quarantine. It’s fast, action-packed and extremely exhilarating. Quarantine has it all! Great mindless fun combined with a mindless hack-and-slash plot! You drive around in the big city, picking up passengers and trying to eliminate the competition. Usually at the same time. For the money you get from your passenger you can buy upgrades for your vehicle, be it weapons or armour.

Super-fast action; lots of cool weapons and plenty of enemies to use them on; nice sound effects. Some will think the action is repetitive; EMM386 compatibility problems can make it tough to run. A high-octane addition to anyone's gaming library--it rocks!

With graphical violence, Quarantine is adult in it's nature and isn't a game for the squeamish. Nor is it a game for the impatient: The long, involved levels will keep players behind the wheel for weeks before they see the last districts. But what a trip it is. Doom lovers looking to score more gore will dig this grim, futuristic saga that spares no fares.

Sekasortoiselta kuulostava Quarantine on hauska pelattava. Ripaus strategiaa piristää peliä entisestään. Tienatuilla rahoilla voi korjata ja edelleen varustaa peltilehmää seuraavien koetusten varalta. Quarantinen grafiikka on OK, mutta lähempää tutkien kohteet muuttuvat legorakennelmiksi. Ralliräiskinnän vauhti ja äänet korvaavat onneksi grafiikan puutteet.

So, if you're all Doomed-out, you'll find Quarantine a dumb, fun, albeit gimmicky alternative.

However, at it's heart this is a very simple game --- drive around and shoot anything that gets in your way. It moves well, looks pretty good and if a little blood on your windshield doesn't bother you, you're gonna enjoy it as much as I did.

Über die Blutrünstigkeit des Großstadt-Gemetzels kann man geteilter Meinung sein; mir persönlich bereitet es keinen sonderlichen Genuß, Fußgänger gegen meine Windschutzscheibe knallen zu lassen. Für eine Weile macht es trotzdem großen Spaß, in dem düster-chaotischen Riesengefängnis herumzuheizen; vor allem das Hochtunen des eigenen Taxis hält bei der Stange. Allerdings wird das Geschehen trotz vieler Extrawaffen und grafisch abwechslungsreicher Stadtbezirke auf Dauer zu eintönig.

Great premise, however, the choppy animation ruins the whole 3-D effect and the realism.

I dont' generally like driving games because they get boring fast, but this one does have a weird since of humor and some funny things going on. The driving is sort of tough to get used to and the graphics are nothing exceptional. However, the soundtrack is really cool but is almost overpowering. The best part of this game is it's warped sense of humor with strange characters and situations, especially the nice degree of visible violence. This may be a cult hit.

Quarantine for the 3DO is a disaster. With such a powerful machine like the 3DO console, Gametek is miles away from other 3DO developers such as Crystal Dynamics or Electronic Arts. Let's hope they have better 3DO products in development than Quarantine.

Très sympa sur PC, Quarantine l'est bien moins sur 3DO, du fait d'une jouabilité très moyenne.

Perhaps if this team had stuck to one kind of game and worked to make it good, this could have been something. As it is, this game shouldn't have ever been sold in stores. If you paid money for this game, you were screwed; but I'm sure you realized that after you tried playing it!

There's plenty of gratuitous blood when you run over or shoot people, but those huge red splotches look ridiculous. You constantly need to consult a slow-loading map screen to see where you're going. You can upgrade weapons and repair your car, but when the basic gameplay falters this bad, extra fluff like that falls to the wayside. Perhaps the most telling sign about this game was the fact that it actually made me ill. I don't know if it was the lousy frame rate, terrible graphics, frustrating control, or the burrito I had eaten earlier, but I actually become nauseated and had to stop playing. On a positive note, I did enjoy a few of the selectable background tunes, featuring some vintage early 90's alternative rock. But no soundtrack could save this game. Quarantine had the right idea, but the technology just wasn't ready yet.
