Ample power-ups allow you to spray the screen with missiles, but the game is still quite challenging. Attractive background scenery features nicely shadowed but generic-looking buildings. Raiden provides unlimited continues. This is one fantastic shooter for the Lynx that collector's should take notice of.

Here's my only beef: do we really need that panel taking up the right third of the screen? I mean, I know it's faithful to the arcade, but that space could have been put to better use!

Overall, Raiden does not take advantage of the Jaguar’s hardware, neither graphically, nor in the sound department. The level design is average at best, with the landscape featuring generic warehouses and terrain. But what it lacks in flash, it makes up for in substance, with responsive controls and interesting weapons. Jaguar owners looking for fast action fun should look no further. Raiden is good stuff.

You can set the difficulty to three different levels, but this does not increase the amount of enemies - it just changes the amount of credits you have. Raiden is a nice little game that is OK for some time of fast shoot’em up fun - as long as you do not expect the ultimate challenge for genre-specialists. Due to the nice multiplayer-option and my opinion that sound is a secondary thing I give 4 points.

Raiden is an exceptionally tough game in the arcade, this version is a bit toned down but still retains most of the aspects that made the coin-op a classic. Great gameplay that is filled with power-ups, tons of enemies to shoot at, and awesome explosions.

Raiden isn't a tough game. You may finish it in a day, even though your fighter seems slow. But if you like to shoot ships, this game will keep you entertained.

The time has come to demand more for our megabits. A snoozer like Raiden just seems out of place on a powerful system like the Jaguar. Let's hope Atari gets into the cartridge rental arena soon.

Many people who purchase and played the game were very disappointed with the lack of animation, horrible graphics, and very slow paced action. The Genesis was able to do more than that, it just seems like Micronet was rushing just to get a Raiden game on the Genesis as soon as possible. I'd recommend you only buy Raiden Trad if you want to collect all the Genesis shooters, but otherwise stay away from it.
