RalliSport Challenge

When all is considered, Rallisport Challenge is truly a standout. Fast, responsive gameplay mixed with impressive visuals and sound make the game a real treat for the senses. This is videogame racing at its best.

RalliSport Challenge was one of the reasons I bought an Xbox, and unlike the other major game on that list, Wreckless, it lives up to all my expectations. The game is simply fascinating and addictive, with pretty much perfect controls and a rewarding challenge time and time again, along with great eye candy that’s easy on the eyes. Can it get frustrating? Sure, but once you practice enough, it will be simple once you get the hang of it. Is this a perfect game? Not at all, but it IS the best rally game in a long, long time, if not the best rally game ever made. Digital Illusions are to be commended for making such an amazing racing game, and you should bust your butt down to a store and pick up a copy of this game pronto. It’s worth the 50 bucks, and then some.

Gamers who don't know which driving game to pick, RSC or PGR, will have a hard time making up their minds. So for those who haven't yet bought any of those 2 games: go rent them and try them out … buy the game that lies best in your opinion. They both are nice though.

In conclusion: superb graphics, good sound, entertaining yet sometimes frustrating gameplay, not too easy, not too hard. And above all… very great fun on LANs. But the absolute nicest element of this game was the excellent compatibility with the Sidewinder Force Feedback steering wheel. Words can hardly describe it. I purchased my steering wheel 2 years ago and I’ve finally found a game that makes use of it’s potential. Excellent.

XBOX owners should definitely pick this one up. A rental will whet your lips, but save yourself the five bucks and just buy it. While the game is brilliant, it doesn't compare to the longevity a Halo would have. Nevertheless, the game is outstanding and worthy of five stars. Again, the only flaw is the slight control issue, but after an hour you should be good to go... enjoy.

Microsoft seems to be eager to prove that it can take on the competition in every genre. After launching the Xbox with a competent street racer, MS is now going up against the likes of Codemasters and Infogrames and is once again proving that it knows how to pick a quality game. RalliSport Challenge is likely to pull you in with its amazing visuals, but you'll soon find that this beauty has brains to boot. This is an intense racing game that commands all of your attention as any small driving mistake can send your car careening off a cliff or into a tree. Don't overlook this gem of a racer just because you're not into rally racing. It's fast, it's furious, and it has to be yours. Go get it now!

Rallisport Challenge is the kind of racing game that'll suck you in for months to come. Even if you beat it in a few weeks, you'll still want to come back for more. I know I will. Project Gotham scores more points for originality, but Rallisport Challenge offers more long-term entertainment. Both are must-have games, so save up to buy them both if you have to. No matter what though, make sure you buy Rallisport Challenge. Your Xbox library will never be complete without it.

It's somewhat noteworthy that the Xbox is only a few months old, and yet, it already has no fewer than 10 driving games available for it. However, none of those games deserve your attention as much as Rallisport Challenge does. This is easily the best driving game currently available for the Xbox, and no Xbox owner should be caught without it.

Whatever minor deficiencies this game possesses it makes up for with the huge variety of tracks and cars available. The graphical quality that we've all marvelled at on the XBox is brought to the PC in glorious high resolution. Once you organise your own soundtrack out you can happily relax into the game and enjoy it for what it is, an arcade racing game with the emphasis on just being damn good fun.

The racing genre continues to make improvements every time we see a title like Rallisport make it’s way to a console. A technically and aesthetically sound title that will keep your interest and provide many days, and weeks of fun. This title is Highly Recommended by the XboxSolution Staff.

The only flaws in this game are cheesy music and lackluster damage penalties. Thankfully, the music can be fixed by using your own soundtracks ripped to your XBox. Rally Masters was great, and this game from the same developers is even better. With the current state of the XBox library, a game like this is a godsend. But it would stand just as tall in the PS2 library. Its just that good. Go, get. Now.

Rallisport offers a nice range of options, including a career mode, single races, time attack, and multiplayer (the comical crashes make for a great multiplayer game). Unique features include ice racing and a point-to-point hill climb. A diverse lineup of impressive licensed cars from Audi, Saab, Toyota, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and others are available for play. As with most racing games, only a fraction of the total tracks and cars are available from the start; the rest are unlocked as the game progresses. Although whopping 41 tracks are available, the career mode lacks the depth of kin such as Gran Turismo.

Nach dem schon gelungenen Project Gotham Racing kommt quasi aus dem Nichts RalliSport Challenge und kann sich sofort in die Top-Riege der Konsolen-Racer einordnen. Eine phänomenale Spielbarkeit, ein spaßiger Multiplayer-Modus und ein ausgefeiltes Streckendesign machen da erst den Anfang. Denn vor allem mit der hochdetaillierten Grafik und der berauschenden Geschwindigkeit kann RSC die kleinen Mankos wie fehlende Mehrspieler-Möglichkeiten oder die vergleichsweise mageren Tuning-Optionen mehr als wett machen. Auch die gewagte Kombination aus Arcade und Simulation geht voll auf. Wer sich auch nur ansatzweise für Rennspiele interessiert und trotzdem an RalliSport Challenge vorbei marschiert, wird mit Fuzion Frenzy nicht unter drei Stunden bestraft - solo versteht sich...

On the PC platform, driving games are usually very sim-oriented (NASCAR and F1 games) or very over-the-top (the Midtown Madness series, Carmegeddon, etc.). RalliSport Challenge stands out because it's a very good mix of both styles. The graphics are fantastic (assuming you've got the hardware to handle it), and the gameplay is spot-on. The poor multiplayer is the biggest flaw here, but the saving grace is the involving single-player career mode. Racing fans will have a blast with this game, especially those looking for a console-style racer. It's fun, fast, and gorgeous.

Even though there were four different rally games released for the PC last year, Rallisport Challenge is the only such game to come out this year. That reason alone is probably enough to recommend this game to fans of the sport, but Rallisport Challenge is an excellent game in its own right, and it can be wholeheartedly recommended to anyone interested in driving games.

In a nutshell, it is my belief that every self-respecting PC rally driver should make it his priority to own this game. Dice might've gotten a few things wrong, but they sure as hell got most of them right.

Obwohl mir euphorische Ausbrüche eher fremd sind, muss ich ganz deutlich sagen: Rallisport Challenge sieht einfach bombastisch aus! In den ersten Rennen krachte mein Ford gegen jeden Felsbrocken, weil ich nur Augen für die beeindruckende Wüstenlandschaft und detaillierten Sand-Texturen hatte. Bei so viel Ablenkung dauerte es auch eine Weile, bis ich in allen Disziplinen als Sieger aus dem Auto stieg. Besonders gefallen mir die technisch anspruchsvollen Berg- und Eisrennen. Doch die fehlende Speicherfunktion nimmt dem Karrieremodus, zumindest im normalen Schwierigkeitsgrad, eine Menge Motivation – unbedingt auf »Einfach« spielen! Zum fünften Mal sechs Etappen absolvieren, nur weil ich einen Fehler gemacht habe, halte ich für übertrieben. Dafür darf ich endlich mal den Verkehrsrowdy mimen und mich in actionreichen Rennen mit den cleveren Computergegnern darum streiten, wer die unverschämteste Pistensau ist – dank der zugänglichen Steuerung sichere ich mir diesen Titel souverän.

Rallisport Challenge on komea ja vauhdikas rallipeli, josta on tehty onnistunut PC-käännös. Tavaramerkiksi muodostuneet komeat ilmalennot ovat myös edelleen mukana. Välillä on hauskaa kisailla vain siitä, kuka saa autonsa näyttävimmin pakettiin.

Where Wreckless merely turned heads, Rallisport Challenge turns them and retains their attention with great gameplay and a sizable amount of extras to unlock. Rally and general racing fans alike will get an industrial-sized army boot kick out Rallisport Challenge. Easily one of the best Xbox racers thus far.

Regardless, Rallisport is visually impressive, and is a well-balanced racer that throttles on the fun. Oh yea, one more thing. I'm miffed that for all his invaluable insight, my trusty, astute co-driver didn't point out that Michelin Man in the twists of the Vista Peak Summit's track that was waiting to throw me off the course. Once again, I guess I was just too sucked in to notice.

En clair, si Rallisport Challenge n'est pas totalement exempt de défaut, il n'en demeure pas moins un très bon titre dans la catégorie des jeux de rallye. Son gameplay est particulièrement attractif, mêlant arcade et simulation, et, offrant du coup un bon compromis entre réalisme et accessibilité. Sa réalisation est de son côté très satisfaisante en dépit des quelques bugs constatés et qui font parfois clairement mauvais effet vu la qualité de l'ensemble.

I realize all this reads like a negative, but for many people that should not be the case. If you're a PC or PS2 owner with Xbox envy and RalliSport Challenge was one of the titles you wish you had, you'll be very happy with this conversion. It simply IS one and the same RalliSport Challenge. It should also appeal to people who kind of liked the Colin McRae Rally game but found it too difficult or too tedious. And of course, if eye-popping graphics are your bag, you should definitely check this out. While PC Gamers rave about the grass and terrain in Unreal Tournament 2003, the fact is the Xbox was doing it a year earlier, and RalliSport just brings it to the PC to demonstrate that they got there first.

Overall, this is an enjoyable rally game, once the basics of driving are mastered, and is one the PC gamer can get their teeth into. Oddly enough, this is the only PC rally game to come out in 2002 (there were four titles on the market this time last year) so if you are a rally fan don't miss it.

It isn't all about power-sliding on every corner but RalliSport comes pretty close to simulating the actual feel of driving, when the human driver and the machine work as one. And that's exactly why its appeal is universal. If you even have an inkling of love for racing, arcade, sim or otherwise, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

THE ARCADE RACER MAY seem like a simple creation but all too often it is done wrong. An addictive balance of accessibility and depth seems to elude most developers but Digital Illusions have hit the nail on the head with Rallisport Challenge. It's not going to satisfy mechanical fetishists and engine tweakers but fans of good looking arcade racing will be very happy indeed.

RalliSport offers the thrills and crazy driving antics of true rally racing. Although you don’t take control of any pros, you do drive licensed cars in international locales that vary in climate and weather conditions. Racing off the beaten track, you must handle crazy powerslides through narrow paths and on steep ridges. Truly, the sense of speed has been skillfully created with a smooth frame rate. Plus, the cars look sharp with detailed decals and nicely designed paint jobs. At the right moments, you can even see the driver steering through the windows. The navigator’s voice and the car’s screaming engine also add realism to the entire experience.

I had high hopes that all of the deficiencies of the Xbox version (and there weren’t that many) would be patched up for the PC game, but ultimately you get a direct conversion of the console game. There is still no in-car view, the wheel support is pathetic, and the system requirements to make this game look and play as well as the Xbox version are staggering. Unless you already own a super-system you will probably spend more in PC upgrades than you would simply buying an Xbox and a copy of the game.

The game provides visual and audio cues about upcoming turns and road conditions, but it often seems like it's two turns ahead, which is confusing. Finally, you'll need to complete some very difficult and long competitions in order to access most of the tracks and cars. But overall this game is loads of fun. Some players won't like all the sliding, but this is a rally game, and you can't blame a tiger for being a tiger.

I wanted to be able to play around with my ride's technical specs, or even my crew. Instead I was left with a terrific looking game that I would probably rent on a Tuesday night. It would behoove you to do likewise.

Det här är varken realismen i Colin McRae Rally 3 eller arkadglädjen i Shox, utan någonting karaktärslöst mitt emellan. Du gör bättre i att välja något av de första två.

RalliSport Challenge ne va pas révolutionner la catégorie, mais il faut bien avouer qu'il est quand même diablement beau. Pour s'en convaincre, il suffit de mettre les détails au minimum dans un premier temps puis de les pousser à fond pour bien apprécier toutes subtilités qui s'affichent à l'écran. Malgré une prise en main facile et des circuits magnifiques, on a un peu de mal à rester scotché sur l'écran. Le gameplay est sympathique mais manque manifestement de profondeur, même si nous sommes dans le domaine de l'arcade. On aurait aimé voir un jeu plus pointu et un poil plus hard.
