Rambo III provided some surprisingly absorbing computer entertainment, though it lacks the great Martin Galway theme that accompanied the original. For the most part the graphics are neat and to the point. All in all a good though not stunningly original little gamespackage from an apparently weak film licence.

All in all, Rambo III deserves a 4 rating, because of the funky controls and how unrealistic the weapons are. But in the end, this game is very clever and advanced for its age. In terms of learning curve: the average gamer should find the game a bit difficult in the beginning, but the interface is quite easy to understand. In my opinion, this game is really fun and should occupy you for hours if you are a serious player. If you like the movies and the action, give it a try. If you are a more strategy-simulation type, this is probably not for you.

The graphics and music in Rambo III are fairly pleasing, although the bird's eye view of the action is annoying and does nothing to make the player become immersed in the action. Rambo III is first and foremost a shoot 'em up, and that is where it appeal lies: bloodthirsty entertainment for the bloodthirsty masses.

Commodore 64The Games Machine (UK)
Rambo looks a decidedly podgy sprite wandering around an unimaginatively coloured fortress. Atmosphere is difficult to create for those who haven't seen the movie, but the C64 has a go, and succeeds.

ZX SpectrumThe Games Machine (UK)
A tough game, with trigger happy fast-moving Russians rushing around and rapidly diminishing levels. The original Rambo wasn't too good to look at, but the sequel features some detailed graphics, effective use of colour, and it plays well - if slightly frustrating through its difficulty.

Commodore 64Computer and Video Games (CVG)
Film tie ins weights things towards the production of very acceptable but dull games - the Toyota's of the industry. This is quite a major license, and an unembarassing game, but nobody will be talking about it in six months time.

Commodore 64ACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Not as difficult to survive as in the ST version - a welcome change. The gameplay is otherwise very similar. Same mix of exploring and shooting. OK graphics and a decent tune.

Atari STACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Not a spectacular game, but there is certainly more to it than the first Rambo game.

ZX SpectrumACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
Not much difference in the gameplay, although the enemy guards behaviour has changed a little. Exactly the same problems to solve and area to explore. Looks reasonably good too, but lacking in the sound effects department.

Commodore 64Zzap!
If the character appeals, it is possible to enjoy the sneaking around as recreating the atmosphere of the film. For others the repetition of the early levels and disappointing flickscreen scrolling might become boring, although the final stage should keep most players persevering at this price.

Commodore 64Zzap!
A shallow shoot 'em up cum maze game that relies too heavily on its nametag.

AmigaAmiga Power
The graphical bit where Rambo loses energy to gradually become a skull is quite funny, but it's not worth eight quid.
