Rayman 2: The Great Escape

The game's frame-rate remains silky smooth at all times, although you'll occasionally struggle for the best camera angle. Great Escape's audio is also outstanding, with understated but appealing guitar and drum rhythms. Rayman 2 offers addictive, wholesome fun that will appeal to any age or gender. There's even an unlockable multi-player mini-game. If you own a Dreamcast, this belongs in your collection.

After playing great games like Mario World, Zelda, and the scores of other 3D platformers out there, you'd think that they would become redundant and lack originality. Well, think again. Rayman 2 brings the same kind of fun that you will find in other great games of the genre, while at the same time creating its own identity and following. When it comes right down to it, Rayman 2 rocks!

Speaking of the Dreamcast, here's a question to wrap things up: should you get this or wait for the DC incarnation? For those who have only a N64 or DC, just pick up the game for the respective system. If you own both, I guess the DC version would be in order; better graphics, better music, the story will remain the same, more levels will be added, and multiplayer action will be there. Being one of the best games of 1999, I can't see how you could go wrong either way. Then again, you could always buy both. ;)

Without a doubt, Rayman 2 truly shines in a class of its own, breaking the typecast as being among the 3D clones which have surfaced since the debut of Mario 64. Without running the risk of concluding with a sales pitch, if you're looking for a new addition to your Dreamcast library, I'd strongly recommend that you'd look out this game. Boasting a high level of creativity, personality and most imporantly - entertaining gameplay. In essence, Rayman 2 breathes new life into what otherwise has become a genre watered down by the common platform titles of today, echoing much of the 'been there, done that' vibe.

If you liked the first Rayman, do yourself a favor and pick this one up. It's a great addition to anyone's Dreamcast collection, even more so if you are a platformer fan.

Rayman 2 is easily the finest console platform game you can purchase today. If you don't have a Dreamcast then this is almost reason enough to buy one. It might not be the lengthiest game in the Dreamcast library but it certainly shows off the power of this system.

The biggest change is the elimination of the 2D overworld map?brand new areas now unite the levels into one cohesive 3D world. The difficulty level has been upped, more language options have been added, and the Lums (which were pretty much worthless in other versions of the game) now buy you power-ups and grant access to new bonus levels.

If you like action titles like Sonic Adventure then you need to get Rayman 2. It features excellent graphics and gameplay with great music. This is an example of a developer utilizing the Uberconsole's power.

When you throw in the Dreamcast-exclusive mini-games, there is more than enough to keep you busy, and even at half it's length with no extras to speak of, this game would more than be worth the price of entry. Rayman 2: The Great Escape is, without question, the most impressive feat of game design and execution the platforming genre has ever seen. Forget Mario. Forget Banjo. And don't even think about Crash. This is the next evolution in gaming, and it has never looked or played better than it does on your Dreamcast.

Rayman 2 is simply one of the best platform games I have played in a long time. It has a great sense of humour, colourful visuals, and a really big game world to play in, so you don't finish it too soon. Both kids and adults will get a great big kick out of this one. The joystick is way up for Rayman 2.

Graphically, Rayman II is an exceptional game with an amazing gameplay. Rayman II sets a new standards on PC for this type of genre. The Rayman character is so popular that Ubi Soft will include it in a series of cartoons developed for the Television and made in SGI. The first episodes have already been made and will be available in a Deluxe Edition of the game of the DVD format to be released later in 2000. Overall, Rayman II is a must for all gamers, young or old, which is non-violent and that we would recommend to the whole family!

Rayman 2 is the best game on the Dreamcast so far, and could arguably be the greatest platform game ever, and that includes the Shiguru Miyomoto's legendary Mario 64. Anyone who is foolish enough to look past this title is doing themselves a disservice. The 3 years it has taken UbiSoft to develop the title was well worth it, and Rayman 2 deserves every award and praise that it receives. It's a classic.

The only thing one could potentially point out as a detriment is the occasionally stubborn camera. Otherwise, this is a simply perfect experience. For those of us who still play our Dreamcast's regularly, this is a must have.

I love this game. Yes, I am 20 years old now, but that does not stop me from enjoying the cartoonish and great game that is Rayman 2: The Great Escape. (Ed. Note- And I thought I felt bad cause I was 39!) The vivid graphics will draw your curiosity; the great gameplay and story will keep you playing until the very end. The game is geared towards the young age demographics and it is evident in the infinite lives that Rayman has, but it is tough enough to keep more experience gamers interested. Rayman 2 also shows that 3-D platform genre that it is not just about running and jumping, with the inclusion of the mini-games and other action scenes. So if you are looking for a wonderful story, graphics, gameplay, basically everything a great game should have, pick up Rayman 2: The Great Escape. This game does not disappoint.

The N64 is well know for it’s platformers. There’s no denying that Mario 64 still towers over most platformers released over the past couple of years. Personally, I consider Banjo Kazooie to be the best game of ’99 after Zelda. Rayman 2: The Great Escape comes to this system and establishes itself as a contender amidst the likes of these legendary games. In fact, I can say with a clear conscious that Rayman 2 is absolutely THE BEST FORCED PATH 3D PLATFORMER ON ANY SYSTEM TO DATE. PERIOD. I’ve played just about every platformer on every system and I can honestly tell you it’s that good. Whether you’ll like it more than Banjo Kazooie will simply be a matter of personal preference. But hey, with platform games this good, who really cares which is better.

Minor complaints aside, Rayman 2 is a great game that takes a shopworn genre and infuses it with so much style and conspicuous creativity that it becomes new again. It's whimsical in the best possible sense, fun to play, and easy on the eyes. It makes competing games with more "mature" themes seem downright offensive by comparison, not for the iniquity of their content, but simply for their relative lack of invention.

Rayman 2 is definitely one of the best platform games I have ever played. It's right up there with Ape Escape as the system's best platform game and it's a better overall gaming experience than any of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon games.

Abwechslungsreiche, fordernde Level und Bonus-Stages sorgen zusammen mit dem stets fairen Schwierigkeitsgrad für ein langanhaltendes und motivierendes Spielvergnügen. Angereichert mit richtig feiner Grafik und stimmungsvollem Sound stimmt nur die so frappierende Ähnlichkeit zum Vorgänger Rayman 2 ein wenig traurig. Doch da Rayman Revolution trotzdem genügend frische Ansätze bietet, hat es sich den Platin-Award mehr als verdient. Zwar ist UbiSofts Maskottchen momentan auf der PS2 konkurrenzlos, doch auch nachfolgende Spiele werden es schwer haben, die von Rayman vorgelegte Jump and Run-Messlatte zu nehmen.

Then they create a character and a story that takes hold of the player and transports them to an alternate reality. This is exactly what Ubi Soft has achieved in Rayman 2: The Great Escape. Above all, this engrossing game is just plain fun to play.

Vid en första anblick kanske Rayman Revolution framstår som ett barnspel. Och visst kan yngre spelare klara av det. Men spelet passar alla åldrar, det är otroligt skönt att bara leva sig in i äventyret i fantasivärlden. Rayman Revolution har precis allt det som ett riktigt bra TV-spel ska ha.

Rayman 2 is quite simply the best platform game I have ever played. There is nothing completely novel here, but everything is so well done that the developers have clearly breathed new life into a rather stagnant genre. The only significant limitations, revolving around interface decisions concerning control settings and save game possibilities, do not dampen my unbridled enthusiasm. I therefore give it a Reviewer's Choice award without reservation.

After completing the PSOne, PS2, and Dreamcast versions of Rayman 2, I can honestly say that along with Ape Escape, this is the greatest adventure game on any console to date. You won't find anything better on any console. Rayman 2: Revolution features incredibly lush, vivid and bright visuals that make this game come to life, the gameplay is challenging in many parts, and yet irresistible. And the voice acting feels like something straight out of a Disney flick. Make sure you go out and buy Rayman 2: Revolution, it deserves your attention, especially if you love adventure games.

Many times games are built around dazzling graphics, but at the expense of gameplay. Often story lines are trimmed to make room for action and far too often characters are given the personality of the gamepad. Ubi Soft's greatest escape may be from the shortcomings so often seen in this genre, as they have combined stunning graphics, an excellent musical score, enchanting gameplay and really interesting characters to make Rayman 2: The Great Escape a sure hit.

Au niveau du gameplay, Rayman fait toujours figure de modèle même en 3D. Il n'a absolument rien à envier à un jeu comme Kazooie, au contraire. Les commandes, très intuitives, ne prennent qu'un minimum de temps et avec la fluidité dont fait preuve Rayman 2, le pilotage de ses petits membres est un bonheur. Le système de caméra, sans faire de miracles, est tout à fait au point et permet de s'y retrouver dans le dédale que représentent certains passages.

In all, Rayman 2 is an integral part of the Dreamcast lineup. The DC hasn't had a good platformer since the release of Sonic Adventure. Rayman 2 fills the gap left by the famous hedgehog. In crafting the game, Ubi-Soft really went the extra mile. The graphics, controls, and gameplay blow away the competition. In all respects, Rayman 2 is a spectacular effort.

To cut the long story short... despite all the lows I've mentioned, Rayman's great escape is definitely one of the best games I've played this year. Nice graphics, colorful world and good story have created fantastic atmosphere and I really felt like I'm in that cartoonish universe. That's why I just couldn't feast my eyes off of this game for 3 long, looong days...

Von der Niedlichkeit der Figuren und den bonbonfarbenen Comic-Landschaften sollte man sich nicht täuschen lasen - bei Rayman 2 handelt es sich um ein verflixt schnelles, extrem unterhaltsames Actionpaket, für das sich nicht nur jüngere Spieler interessieren dürften. Selten habe ich so ein abgefahrenes und abwechslungsreiches Leveldesign gesehen; die zahlreichen skurrilen Charaktere verstärken den schrägen Humor noch zusätzlich - innerhalb kürzester Zeit ist einem der kleine bunte Hüpfknecht ans Herz gewachsen und man kann sich kaum noch vom Bildschirm lösen. Lediglich die Tatsache, dass man nicht jederzeit speichern kann, wurmt ein wenig und trübt den ansonsten ausgezeichneten Gesamteindruck. Ansonsten ist Rayman 2 jedem zu empfehlen, der Sinn für abgefahrenen Humor und knuffige Antihelden hat.

Dit spel is een topper in het genre en misschien kan het daardoor wat meer liefhebbers aantrekken. Vlotte actie, geweldige graphics, leuke sounds, met als enig minpunt de soms zéééér lastige stukken (trouwens ook een minpunt voor Rayman 1!) en het soms frustrerende save-systeem. Rayman 2 is al bij al een erg verfijnde titel in het platformgenre.

Despite these relatively minor gripes, Rayman 2: Revolution is a highly enjoyable romp through the crazy world of our favourite limbless hero. Despite the enhancements, chances are great that if you already own a copy of Rayman 2 there's not enough here to warrant a purchase. But anyone who doesn't yet have at least one version of one of the best platformers in recent history would do well to pick this game up. There are hours of fun here, just waiting to be delved into.

Accordingly, if you have yet to experience the platforming brilliance that is Rayman 2, you owe it to yourself to pick this game up. It's one of the greatest achievements in the history of 3D platform games and should be given the same admiration given to titles like Miyamoto's Mario 64.

After the long wait we finally got our hands on Rayman 2, and if all those sliding release dates were put back to tighten up on gameplay then the wait has definitely been worth while. Overall it's very similar to Croc. A 'must buy' for the kids and a probable purchase for those who don't like their games to be too taxing on the mind.

Muchos os preguntareis ¿Sonic o Rayman? y tendriamos que decir ¿por qué elegir? cada uno tiene sus puntos fuertes y débiles y lo justo sería decir que Rayman 2 es el complemento perfecto de Sonic Adventure y que Sonic Adventure es el complemento perfecto de Rayman 2. A mí me gusta mas Sonic pero no deja de ser una preferencia personal. Lo que si esta claro es que Rayman 2 es un plataformas divertido, largo si queremos sacarle todo el jugo, y de una calidad técnica y jugable enorme. Un autentico imprescindible.

Der Sprung in die dritte Dimension ist Rayman 2 einfach großartig gelungen. Geniale Grafiken und vor allem die phantastischen Texturen gefallen dem Auge, die originellen Levels und die perfekte Steuerung dem Spielerherzen. Klar, gestandene Action- Haudegen können mit der kindgerechten Aufmachung auf den ersten Blick nicht viel anfangen. Sobald man sich aber eingespielt und die ersten Levels geschafft hat, kommt unweigerlich die Neugierde – was mögen die Entwickler sich wohl noch so alles an abgedrehten Ideen überlegt haben?

I really enjoyed this game and think everyone else will too. If you can get past the occasionally frustrating camera angles, you will be in for a huge adventure full of surprises and fun. You will never know what to expect next. The graphics rival the best on the system and the gameplay is always exhilarating. Well worth the purchase price.

Rayman 2 is a wonderful game. Hands down. It outperforms a majority of the graphical work done by Rare and Nintendo. What would have made Rayman an incredible game? Some cool Mario Party-style multiplayer games and a few more levels. While some gamers may take exception to the forced path style of the game, I rather enjoyed it. What really took me about Rayman 2 was its ability to cross age, gender and preference boundaries. My girlfriend liked this game, my 2 year old nephew giggled at Rayman and I (predominantly sports and action) loved this game. Miyamoto once said something to the effect that games which have mass appeal have really captured the joy of gaming and excellence. I think that Rayman's incredible appeal is the biggest indication of its success. Or, as my two year old nephew says when he puts in Rayman 2, "Zio…boingo kick ass!"

Les développeurs français d'Ubi Soft ont fait preuve de beaucoup de talent, et d'un beau respect pour le joueur. Car s'il est plus ou moins facile de faire un très beau jeu, il est en revanche plus délicat de concilier une excellente jouabilité et un gameplay aussi poussé. Oui, Rayman 2 est un délice !

Rayman 2 is a wonderful surprise. Ubisoft could have just done a quick and sloppy N64 port, but instead they took the time to enhance the game to take advantage of the Dreamcast's power. The result is a beautiful, well-designed adventure that easily takes its place as one of the best 3D platformers available today.

Although the game is essentially in its fifth incarnation, the gameplay for the PS2 port has been tweaked significantly, more so than any other version. Previous versions of the game had Rayman begin with a core set of abilities from the start, which included the ability to reflect his shots off walls and fire multiple shots at once. Rayman has now been weakened greatly at the outset, his one-time natural powers now distilled into multiple power upgrades, which must be bought in between explorations. Once purchased, Rayman’s abilities are permanently upgraded, and Rayman 2 purists will begin to feel more at home. This actually helps to lend an added level of polish, variety, and difficulty to the gameplay, as his abilities now follow a much slower progression.

Rayman le retour tant attendu ! Vous vous souvenez du petit personnage en 2D tout mignon qui faisait des grimaces, lancer son poing sur les ennemis, voler avec ces cheveux et j’en passe… ! A l’heure actuelle, il s’est fait un super lifting et revient en 3D !! Rayman revient avec un nouveau look et tout y est : bandana rouge, baskets jaunes, cheveux blond hélicoptère, il lance son poing , il est capable à présent grâce à la 3D d’excalader les mur, de s’accricher au plafond grillagé, de nager,… et vous y retrouverez toujours les électoons devenus les Lums, qu’il doit collecter cette fois-ci pour obtenir plus d’énergie, des sauvegarde, de l’oxygène, des pouvoirs,….

Zou Rayman schouders hebben, dan zou daar een grote last op liggen, want zijn wereld is bezet door mechanische piraten en aan Rayman de taak deze Robocops met ooglapjes te verjagen.

Rayman 2 is absoluut een major player op de competitieve markt van de 3D-platformgames. De graphics zijn prima, het geluid is oké, de gameplay is gevarieerd en dat alles wordt gecompletteerd door een prima verhaal. 3D-platformliefhebbers zullen zich hier zeker geen buil aan vallen.

Although Nintendo 64 owners certainly have no shortage of 3D platform games to select from, Rayman 2 does stand out as one of the finer choices. Despite its camera problems, the overall atmosphere and generally cooperative control make it a more entertaining experience than many similar games. Taking his first steps into the next frontier of gaming, Rayman’s PlayStation 2 debut comes in the form of an enhanced rehash. Spreading like an airborne disease, Revolution is the fifth version of Rayman 2 to grace the gaming scene. The only noteworthy add-ons are two new bonus levels and larger enemy hordes. Naturally, this isn’t nearly enough to warrant a purchase for those of you who have already put this platformer through its paces. However, Rayman rookies should get off their butts and immerse themselves in this timeless classic.

Rayman 2 is by far the better game thanks to its size and complexity. Don't let the initial childishness of this game put you off - patience pays great dividends. And the net result is a very likeable game.

Malgré son nom, Rayman Revolution n'est pas à proprement parler une véritable révolution d'un point de vue gameplay et scénario, qui sont tout droit sortis de Rayman 2 Great Escape sur Dreamcast. Pour le reste par contre, on est véritablement devant une petite merveille du genre. Véritable dessin animé interactif, ce titre n'a pas son pareil dans le monde des jeux vidéo et, en s'appuyant sur un univers coloré et sans faille, s'impose comme la référence en matière de plates-formes 3D de cette fin de 20ème siècle. Un jeu à conseiller à tous, grands, petits, hommes, femmes, trolls, elfes et même à vos petits frères ou soeurs. Si seulement cela pouvait les sortir des Pokémon...

Rayman Revolution s'impose clairement comme l'opus le plus réussi de la saga. Ses qualités graphiques mais aussi ludiques sont un modèle du genre, malgré quelques petits défauts de placement de caméra toujours un peu gênants. Le titre d'Ubi Soft ne présente que peu d'innovations par rapport aux précédentes versions, mais constituera un excellent choix pour ceux qui recherchent un soft à la fois impressionnant et divertissant pour leur PS2. D'autant que Rayman est le seul dans sa catégorie pour l'instant.

Fascinant ! Voilà bien longtemps qu'il ne nous était pas donné l'occasion de nous essayer à un jeu aussi complet que prenant. Beau, d'une fluidité parfaite, d'une jouabilité sans faille, Rayman 2 nous invite de nouveaux à résoudre les casses têtes, à sauter de plate-forme en plate forme, à délivrer les lums. Autour de ce noyau, on prend plaisir à découvrir les niveaux secrets et à prendre part à tous les mini-jeux que comptent ce jeu. En un mot comme en mille, Rayman 2 est simplement le meilleur.

Ce Rayman DS est une bonne surprise. Agréable, original (du moins sur portable), et plein de vie, il vous fera passer un moment de plaisir ludique assez conséquent. Proposant de multiples variations de son gameplay et une aventure située entre l'humour, l'onirisme et l'écologie, le titre d'Ubisoft possède toutes les clés nécessaires pour s'ouvrir une voie quasi-royale. Restent bien évidemment les maladresses de prise en main parfois handicapantes, mais qui au final pèsent bien peu sur une joyeuse balance.

Ein wenig enttäuscht war ich ja schon, als ich erfahren habe, dass Rayman DS »nur« eine Umsetzung von Rayman 2 wird – zwar ist das Game ein moderner Klassiker, aber ich hatte auf einen eigenständigen DS-Auftritt des sympathischen Helden gehofft. Wie auch immer: Rayman spielt sich in klein prinzipiell genauso gut wie in groß, aber in einigen wichtigen Punkten schwächelt die Umsetzung: Die Grafik ist mangels Filtering sehr pixelig, die Kameraführung mängelbehaftet. Und die Steuerung ist weder digital noch analog die Erfüllung. Ein schönes Jump'n'Run, ohne Frage – aber insgesamt seid ihr mit Rayman 3 für den GBA besser bedient. Zwar nur in 2D, aber das ohne Wenn und Aber.

All in all, it may not be the most advanced game to appear on the PS2, but Rayman 2 is certainly one of the best. It is creative, beautiful, and most importantly, it is a great deal of fun from the very beginning to the very end. Fans of 3D platform games would be doing themselves a great disservice by skipping over this title, as would everyone else who just loves a well-crafted game.

Dieses witzige Jump´n´Run überzeugt vor allem durch seine hübsche Grafik und gute Spielbarkeit. Die verschiedenen Welten sind sehr fantasievoll gestalltet und Rayman hat jede Menge Abwechslung. Auf dem Weg seinen Freunden zu helfen, stellen sich einige schwierige Aufgaben, diese verlangen viel Geschick von dem kleinen Helden ab. Er kann mit seinen Haaren, wie mit einem Propeller schweben, gebraucht aber auch diverse Fahrzeuge und Fuggeräte um weiter zu kommen. Zu dem gibt noch einige Minispiele. Zwar ist die Story nicht sonderlich beeindruckend, aber die witzigen Figuren und das Gameplay, lassen einen nicht los. Auch die Musik ist sehr schön und passend zur Umwelt.

Prosseguir a idéia do primeiro jogo continua dando oportunidade aos pequenos de conduzir o personagem sem maiores dificuldades. Ao mesmo tempo, o jogo apresenta um show tecnológico e mostra que gráficos coloridos e um personagem risonho não atrai só as crianças.

If this is any indication of Ubisoft's enthusiasm for the Nintendo DS, don't expect any mind-blowing touch-screen innovations to be coming out of France any time soon. Rayman DS is a bare-bones port of the Dreamcast/PSone/N64 title Rayman 2: The Great Escape. However, on the DS the once-beautiful pastel graphics are displayed in muted, muddy browns with jagged character models.

Rayman DS is a fun game with great characters and level design, and plenty of gameplay. While the graphics aren’t as good as they should be, this port comes from a solid pedigree that manages to shine through. The game still feels old, though, but is a fine platformer to tide players over until the next Mario adventure.
