In both Shooter and Race modes, players share the same abilities, and weapons. It makes you be able to pick your favorite character without worrying about its weakness. Platform fans will find enough in this game to stay interested and people who use this as a party game will have no worries. The graphics and concept are very good, and impressive. With Mario Party 4 just around the corner, one wonders about Rayman Arena. Overall, Rayman Arena is a perfect game in between Rayman 2 and 3, and a great multiplayer game to boot.

Overall, Rayman M is a good arcade game worthy to its genre, especially seeing that so little games of this type are being released for PC these days. If you're into arcade games, this is a must-have.

Expanding the Rayman franchise into the party game genre, Ubi Soft has again displayed its talent for superb graphical and audio presentation. Only stifled by its lack of variety, Rayman Arena features well-designed and engaging gameplay. Rayman Arena’s gameplay is solid, particularly in multiplayer, even if limited in replay value.

If you remember Rayman, expect the same running, jumping, climbing, sliding, flying, and shooting powers. What about the "M"ultiplayer? Well, don't expect it's Quake 3 for kids. Unfortunately the multiplayer in PC version is limited to 2 players on the computer and you need to have a gamepad for the second player. Despite the limited multiplayer, various Rayman M modes provides over 50 hours of fun, so if you have a kids, they will probably like it anyway.

Rayman Arena is a solid attempt to make the platform hero more of a cross-genre star. The game succeeds in a lot of ways. It leaves you wanting in others, though. Most of the racing is exciting and a treat for the eyes, but there should have been more in the way of multiplay.

WindowsActionTrip
Finally, it is up to you to decide weather you like Rayman in a role like this or not. I find it a real shame that a game based on a great quest-driven plot got a sequel, which is based solely on (slightly frustrating) action/arcade elements from the original. Not that I have anything against the arcade genre, its just that I hope that this is but a short experiment, and that Rayman would return to its original track...

While not for everyone, fans of the Rayman series will enjoy seeing
their hero along with the rest of the characters, and I mean ‘characters’, in
a different light. If you like the foot-race styled game genre, then this should
fit nicely in your collection. Race and battle modes both offer good multi
player party games!

PlayStation 2GamePro
The game would have much longer multiplayer legs if the three more pick-up-and-play-oriented Battle modes didn't feel so much like afterthoughts or remnants of never-implemented Rayman 2 Bonus Mini-Games with uncreative and repetitive objectives (get, shoot, or chase), uninspired arena layouts, and an epileptic camera that turns four-player split-screen battles into limbless French chaos.

Rayman’s off and racing on the GameCube oh yeah, and you can fight, too. Party games may not have originated on Nintendo’s systems, but they certainly achieved fame there. Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Monkey Ball have made the Cube the place for four-player, family-friendly fun. Now Rayman throws his disembodied glove in the ring with decidedly mixed results.

WindowsPC Zone
While the game is not without a degree of charm, there's no escaping the fact that climbing, swinging and sliding around a level (and frequently falling off things in the process) is simply not as much fun as racing around a track firing banana skins or guided missiles at each other. The competition is not as direct nor as cutthroat, and the pleasure of frustrating your mates is almost entirely absent. To top it off, the multiplayer bizarrely manages only up to two-player split-screen. Hats off to Ubi Soft for doing something other than Super Rayman Kart, and making a partial success of it, but this is not a game you're likely to become hooked on.

Fans of the few other foot-racing games that have been released over the years, such as Mad Dash Racing, Running Wild, or Sonic R, will find that Rayman Arena fits in nicely with these games. But the game doesn't really do anything to differentiate itself from these older foot-racing games and doesn't bring anything new to the table. Anyone looking for an exciting mascot racing game won't find too much to like here once the thrill of four-player multiplayer has worn off.

PlayStation 2Gaming Target
If you’re into games like Mad Dash Racing on the Xbox, or are in need of a decent multi-player game, Rayman Arena surely can suffice. Although I wouldn’t understand you very much if you went out and purchased this title. With all the levels and modes, Arena is 20 miles long and 2 inches deep. Whether it went somewhat bad in production, or Ubi Soft is looking for some pre-hype to Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, this game isn’t “all there.” We’ve seen mascot-based racing/battle games before (some good, some bad), but this one really doesn’t have much of an identity and lacks one major necessity--replay value.

PlayStation 2Worth Playing
Nothing new here really when it comes to your basic foot-racing game. The battle mode is where you can have a bit more fun with the game, but not much. The earlier versions of Rayman had much more appeal and game play value than Rayman Arena has. This is for the most part a rather shallow game experience overall with really nothing innovative to offer. But you should find it fun for a while, and the multi-player aspect has its charm as well.

I love Rayman as an adventure and a platformer, but Ubi Soft's attempt to pull the wool over our eyes with a party game disguised in Rayman clothing is a poor one. If I had to speculate, I would guess that Ubi Soft first discussed using the Rayman license for other things, and then remembered it could use a party game. The result was Rayman Arena, but the execution is half-hearted and not remotely rewarding.

Rayman Arena is Ubisoft’s latest installment using the Rayman franchise, and while I am sure the designers had some good ideas and intentions going into this project something went horribly wrong between the design pitch and the retail release of this game.

Milking it. That’s what Ubi Soft is doing to the Rayman name. So many successful games spawn offshoots that are, in most cases, horrid. There are always the rare exceptions (i.e. Crash Team Racing), but for every one good game, there are countless drink coaster games, Rayman Arena included. This game is the antithesis of fun. The only ones who might enjoy this game are people who enjoy pain, though I worry even for them. A shallow and unbalanced game at best. Let's hope Ubi Soft redeems itself with the upcoming Hoodlum Havoc. Play at own risk.

GameCubeGame Revolution
Rayman Arena looks better than it plays, but that's not saying much. All of the characters are very small and barely detailed with few animations. However, the game holds a steady framerate and features bright, shiny graphics. Every match or race is preceded by the same cut-scene animation, which looks kinda sharp and entertaining the first time you see it, but janky and redundant the second time. Not to mention the 3rd, 4th, and 5th times.
