Reign of Fire is a good game and is worth at least a rental. The game will provide challenge even the most hardcore gamers. You should pick it up at least to experience how many dragons come at you and what you do in response. It's crazy and I love it. If you enjoyed the movie, you'll enjoy the game. There are plenty of extra features including movie clips and Mad at Gravity's Walk Away music video.

Reign of Fire is a fast-paced game with loads of action. The game looks good and plays well, and is very forgiving – especially if you are driving a vehicle and not paying much attention to where you are going, but are concentrating on what you are shooting at. The AI is average, and enemies tend to move in a predictable manner, making them easy to target. The anomalies of terrain do throw the concept of ‘easy pickings’ down the drain, and you have to be constantly on the move, jostling and bouncing about, or the game will end quickly. This is an enjoyable game, and should suit most fans of action-packed shooting games.

Reign of Fire seems to have all the elements of a spectacular
game, unfortunately not all of them came to fruition. It seems the developers
tried to pack it full of too many goodies, which is not a bad thing, but may
have left them with little time to perfect the most important of all; control.
With that being said, the control issue is a temporary setback, as you will
become extremely agile in little time, and if you stick with it, Reign of Fire
can offer some real fun filled entertainment and spectacular visuals.

The music itself like the voice acting is another aspect that is a standard course of mediocre serving. It's looped through your ear drums in a coordination of some heavy and lighter pulses that aren't memorable in the least, although aren't bad at all to have to hear. Effectively they work -- if only enough that they're there for the sake of being there.

Games based on movies traditionally have a bad rap, and games based on poor movies have a tougher time of becoming successful. As average as it is, Reign of Fire is one of the few games that actually surpasses the movie that inspired it. Apparently, securing a movie license doesn’t necessarily net you the star, as Matthew McConaughey's fails to appear in video or voice form. No matter – I didn’t find his character all that clever or likeable in the film.

What is good about Reign of Fire though is the support for deaf gamers. Apart from the FMV, which is unsubtitled, the speech is fully subtitled at the bottom of the screen and because there is always plenty of action going on, the developers put little markers by the person who is talking, which I thought was a nice touch. Deaf gamers should have very few problems with Reign of Fire.

Overall, there are some things here which may appeal to a lot of you action buffs out there, and all negative things removed … the combat itself either as human or dragon can get pretty intense at times and no one can say that there are quiet moments to this game. Ultimately, the frustrating control, repetitive gameplay, and average graphics will not appeal to a lot of folks and will quickly kill a good time … even for heavy action fans (me included), and I would definitely recommend renting this game prior to purchasing, even for that younger dragon fan on your list.

I wasn’t expecting a lot out of this licensed product since the movie it’s based on turned out so poorly, but I was pleasantly surprised to find some entertainment in this game’s simple premise. Sporting play controls similar to Halo’s driving portions, the player cruises around in a 4x4 blasting targets as they converge on you from all sides. You also get a chance to play as the dragons. The title does a good job of conveying a sense of urgency and being in the field of combat, but the overall design is just average. Not bad, but not good either.

Reign of Fire is one of those games I wanted to like more than I did. I truly believe that all sorts of cool dragon games could be made, but that few have really nailed it. The closest one, to me, was Drakan: The Ancients' Gates, which was more of an action-adventure game that included a dragon.

The closest one, to me, was Drakan: The Ancients' Gates, which was more of an action-adventure game that included a dragon. Bam's game is unfortunate in a couple of ways. First, the movie didn't light up the box offices, which means that most people are going to think that the game is just like the movie. And while I find it hard to entirely dispute that, if you can bear through the human missions, you may very well enjoy the dragon missions. But the linear missions, oftentimes frustrating controls and general dreariness of the gameplay, which makes it all feel more like chore than entertainment, may prevent you from that entirely.

For a publisher looking for movie licenses, Reign of Fire is theoretically a perfect choice. It's got everything: A clear battle between two distinct foes -- brutally fierce, fire-breathing dragons, and a rag-tag group of post-apocalypse military rednecks angry, desperate and armed with enough fire-power to make a difference. But despite the Mad Max hints of outlaw tragedy, the movie Reign of Fire went down in flames. The game fares only a little better.

There are fleeting moments of fun in Reign of Fire, but they're quickly smothered beneath lame level design, wretched controls, and a surprising lack of intensity, considering all the dragons and missiles and fire and whatnot. Men in Black II: Alien Escape, welcome your new partner in the genre of "Crappy PS2 Tie-In Shooters Doomed to Obscurity."

In the end, Reign of Fire has its share of fun moments but unfortunately these moments are few and ruined by the awkward controls that make driving and shooting an aggravating experience. If you loved the exciting action and thrills seen in the movie, this game will be something of a disappointment. This is still a recommended rental.

Reign of Fire lacks polish however, causing my mood to alternate between excitement and aggitation. The difficulty of the missions is wildly uneven - some are incredibly hard while others require little effort. The frame rate gets a little rough when things get hectic, and the load times are easily the longest I've seen on the GameCube. Clips from the movie are interspersed with the stages. Despite its lack of polish however, Reign of Fire's visually compelling action is exciting enough to keep you coming back for more.

Bam! Entertainment's tie-in to the Matthew McConaughey lizard-shragging opus drags you through two lackluster campaigns, comprised of seven missions each, in which you'll play as either a truck-driving dragon -slayer or a fire-belching 'zard. And while the potential for a dope game is undeniably present, repetitious missions and cumbersome controls pilot Reign of Fire headfirst in the dirt.

XboxGameSpot
Reign of Fire for the Xbox is based on the 2002's summer film by the same name, starring Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale. The plot centered on the concept of modern man pitted against fire breathing dragons that have become the dominant species on Earth. The movie was unremarkable, and its sometimes striking visuals were offset by a flat plot. This game is then a logical successor, as it follows well in those same footprints. It's not terrible, and sports some good graphics if nothing else. But ultimately, a number of glaring flaws keep it from being an enjoyable gaming experience.

PlayStation 2GameSpot
In the end, Reign of Fire is a fairly thin gaming experience. There is some occasional fun to be had, as some of the action sequences are exciting to take part in, and watching a dead dragon fall from the sky is an exciting sight. Unfortunately, this excitement quickly fades, leaving you with a game with unresponsive controls and lackluster action.
