Back of Box - Windows (Italy):
    Libera, Manipola, Governa

'As famous as Molyneux? Not just yet, but the gaming world will soon whisper Demis Hassabis' name in the same reverential tones reserved for his previous employer's name. That day isn't far away, because Republic: The Revolution isn't far away: one of the most ambitious and technically impressive games we've ever seen. Granted we've got 14 months to wait, but the 3D engine behind Republic: The Revolution is already so fearsomely ahead of the competition that it's difficult to imagine it dating in a decade, let alone in a meagre 400 days.' - PC Gamer

'For anyone with an interest in something fairly fresh in the world of strategy should not hesitate to pick up a copy of this fascinating slice of fictional European life. 80%" - Hyper

Atari Australia website - Windows:
Power is everything! Republic: The Revolution is the highly anticipated and critically acclaimed PC strategy simulation game from Elixir Studios. Designed by Demis Hassabis, Republic: The Revolution delivers a totally unique and compelling experience powered by one of the most advanced graphics engines ever. The game is due for release in summer 2003.

Following the fall of the mighty Soviet Union, dozens of autonomous states have sprung up from the crumbling remnants. One small Republic, Novistrana, has become a hive of brutality and corruption. A ruthless dictator, Vassily Karasov, rules the country with an iron fist and a control based on fear and oppression. With a personal vendetta against him and seeds of discontent spreading throughout the nation, now is the moment to seize power and liberate the masses. Time to start a revolution…

Starting with a single loyal supporter you must create a powerful nationwide faction strong enough to oust the President. Using a combination of influence, wealth and force you must attempt to gain the allegiance of prominent public figures including members of the secret police, councillors, celebrities, priests, and criminals. Hundreds of diverse actions enable you to order and manipulate the masses from rallies and riots to constructing crime syndicates, holding charity galas, organising secret police ‘hits’ or broadcasting news propaganda.

Revolutionary AI techniques create living and breathing individual citizens to inhabit the cities of Novistrana. Each person will have detailed daily routines and their own set of beliefs and loyalties that govern their behaviour, producing consistent and realistic reactions to situations that arise in the game.

Republic: The Revolution is powered by an extremely advanced proprietary graphics engine - ‘Totality’. Capable of rendering an unlimited number of polygons in real time the engine allows millions of polygons to be used to model each building or character. The ‘Totality’ engine is capable of smoothly zooming from rooftop images of a city to focus on minute details on the buildings, people and vehicles in the game. This allows for gameplay to be stunningly realised with a cinematic quality and feel, as the hand-scripted camera captures the key moments of every action.

  • Each person will have detailed daily routines that range from going to work, to collecting their kids from school, to doing their shopping and to voting in elections. Each individual will also have their own set of beliefs, emotions, skills and loyalties that govern their behaviour, producing consistent and realistic reactions to situations that arise in the game.
  • Thousands of factions, organisations and parties to subvert and control, each with their own goals and powers. Thousands of factors dictate how these groups will react to a player's actions. As a result, every game will be a different and exciting experience.
  • Extremely efficient and realistic citizen navigation utilizing an innovative hierarchical path-finding algorithm. Use of potential field technology allows for flexible crowd formation and flocking behaviour. Towns feature advanced transport routines that accurately model inner city traffic and metro systems.

  • The most advanced graphics engine ever seen, "Totality", capable of rendering scenes of unlimited complexity in real time every frame. In other words, there is no upper bound on the number of polygons and objects that can be used in a scene, thus allowing for buildings or characters to be made out of millions of polys if so required.
  • Zoom smoothly from a satellite-like image of Novistrana (2000km square) to focus on minute detail anywhere in the world (for example the threads on screws). In addition, the game will feature special effects that surpass the current state-of-the-art in development, including unlimited real time light sources, self-shadowing, and physically-based material models.
  • All the above allows for the actions to be realised stunningly with a cinematic quality and feel, the camera moves having been hand-scripted to vividly capture the key moments of every action.
