Capcom presents the next chapter in the ultimate survival horror series with Resident Evil 2 for the Nintendo GameCube system. In Chapter One, the case of the disastrous T-virus outbreak was eventually closed, but the experiments were far from over. Join Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield once more on their quest to rid Raccoon City of yet another biological menace.

Am Anfang alle Übels stand ein Unfall im Versuchslabor eines alten Herrenhauses in der nähe von Raccoon City. Ein bei einem Unfall freigesetzter biologischer Kampfstoff der Umbrella Corporation bekannt als T-Virus, verwandelte das Anwesen in einen Vorhof der Hölle. Ob Mensch oder Tier alles vom T-Virus infizierte Leben wich in seiner ursprünglichen Form und wurde in grauen erregende Kreaturen verwandelt, die nur ein Ziel hatten; Fressen. Nur dem beherzten Handeln eines Einsatzkommandos der Polizei war es zu verdanken, daß sich das Chaos nicht weiter auf Raccon City ausbreitete. Zwei Monate sind seit diesem schrecklichen Zwischenfall verstrichen.
Die vermeintliche, Sicherheit trügt jedoch, einige Teile der Stadt wurden schon durch den G-Virus infiziert. Bei diesem Virus handelt es sich, um eine Weiterentwiclung des T-Viruses, der Umbrella Corporation. Er wurde durch infizierte Ratten versehentlich freigesetzt. Aber wie allgemein bekannt erwächst oft großes aus den kleinen Dingen im Leben. Der Kreis schließt sich, nach ersten Meldungen wurden schon die ersten Mutationen und Zombies in Raccoon City gesichtet. Durch die sternklare Nacht dringen die ersten Schreie derer, die es nicht mehr geschafft haben sich vor den Mutationen in Sicherheit zu bringen. Mehr oder weniger zufällig stolpern Sie in diese Apokalypse und versuchen diesem Fleisch gewordenen Alptraum zu entkommen.
Seien Sie auf der Hut wenn Sie die Spannung nicht umbringt, wird sich schon "Etwas" anderes finden.

Survival horror drags itself onto Nintendo 64.

Fans of flesh-eating zombies can finally scream with glee, because Capcom has unleashed an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord for the undead on Nintendo 64. Not for the easily disturbed, Resident Evil 2 thrusts players into a dark world that's uncomfortably close to being trapped in a horror movie.

In fact, RE2 is so horrifying that it has been slapped with a well-deserved "M" (mature) rating by the ESRB. The blood color can be changed from realistic red to blue or green, and the violence level can be adjusted from high to low. Even with these options in place to make the game less evil, the ESRB recommends that no one under 17 wanders within earshot of this Pak.

The third-person perspective action in Resident Evil 2 takes place in Raccoon City, where a flesh-eating virus is turning the town's citizens into zombies. Controlling either Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield, players must avoid the zombies' bony fingers as they explore the town's huge 3D environments.

The game differs depending on which character you choose, and things you do as Leon can impact the storyline when you replay the game as Claire. To get the most out of the game and witness all of the awesome cinema scenes, players must endure the horrifying gaming experience more than once.

At a bulky 512 megabits, Resident Evil 2 is the largest Game Pak to ever be released on Nintendo 64. A large portion of memory is consumed by lengthy cinema scenes, using a unique visual style that has never been seen before on the N64.

During actual gameplay, the Resident Evil series has never looked better. Character graphics are more detailed and realistic than ever before, which may not be good news if you're easily spooked by the sight of decaying flesh.

Play control is different than in most 3D games, because players have no control over the camera. Instead, the view changes constantly as you progress through the environments. This makes play control tricky for beginners, but with experience the approach becomes easier to use and actually adds an appropriately panicky element to the game.

Resident Evil 2 isn't for everyone, but gamers looking for the fright of their lives will not be disappointed by Capcom's nightmarish adventure.
