A testament to RE4's greatness is how many memorable moments are packed into this single game, including a battle with a giant "troll" monster, a wild encounter on a ski lift, a crazy mine cart ride, and a row-boat sequence as thrilling as the movie Jaws. It should be noted that the game is definitely intended for mature audiences, due to excessive violence and gore, along with use of the "S" word. Although it never takes itself too seriously, there are some genuinely intense moments and gruesome images. Resident Evil 4 is one for the ages. The bar for survival horror has now been set very, very high.

There wasn’t anything I disliked about the game, it’s totally brilliant all the way through, the pacing, the enviroments, the firepower etc. The game does throw you in at the deep end though: you start off outside a village and when you enter it all the villagers suddenly attack you and all you have is a pistol! Luckily one of the houses has a shotgun (if you can find it). The problem is that the enemies keep on coming - they are relentless! Luckily you can barricade windows, go upstairs, jump off the roof etc. The game has a lot of freedom. Eventually after you are just about dead, they all go away and you breathe a huge sigh of relief. It was a cool way to start the game; they didn’t slowly train you up on easy enemies, you just had to deal with it and survive. Later in the game there are much worse (and cooler) situations…

Game of the generation? That’s hard to say, but if we were to choose ten games of the generation, this would definitely be in there.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is an even better game than the original release. Any graphical wrinkles are outweighed by the smooth new Wii controls, which put other sloppy “Wii-makes” to shame. The near-perfect game is only enhanced by the Wii additions, and this alone makes it a worthy purchase. If you’re a GameCube owner who never got to experience the PS2 extras, a fan of the original game looking for nostalgia or if you’ve never played it, RE4 Wii is a must buy. At $30, it’s almost wrong to pass it up.

The Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 is simply the best version that can be purchased on any platform. While other ports of the title have had their own share of nuances that made them not quite equal to the quality of the original, on the Wii the game simply works on a level that can easily make a newcomer think that it was always meant for that platform. The inclusion of all of the special features and unlockables from the prior versions as well as the very well thought out use of the Wiimote set the title apart, and if there is anyone left that has yet to own Resident Evil 4 –the Wii Edition is what you are looking for.

This game is huge for a Resident Evil game. You may be finished in 20 hours, but considering most other RE games are finished just over ten hours and that the action in constant the whole way through, you may be relieved to have the game finished, just so you can start it all over again. With unlockable items available, all of the mini-games and bonus missions found in the PS2 version, new weapons, new difficulties, and a plethora of collectable figurines, the game has uber-replayability. You will play this more than once, you will show it to everyone who visits even if it is just to show naysayers that the Wii is a capable machine. Buy it! Buy it now.

If you have only played the GameCube version, then you’ll be delighted to hear that the Wii edition has all the extras that were only previously available in the PlayStation2 release. These extras, combined with the excellent graphics of the GameCube version and the superior Wii control scheme, makes the latest incarnation of the Resident Evil series definitely worth the purchase.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is an absolute must-buy for Wii owners who have yet to enjoy the dark delights RE4 has to offer. Its lower-than-average price tag only sweetens the deal. You're looking at one of the best single-player games from the last three years here, and even better, you're also looking at the best version released so far. What's not to love?

The fact that this is value priced is just the cherry on top. Had Capcom tried to charge the full price, it would have had a legion of upset fans banging at its doorstep, so the budget price tag was an ingeniously diabolical move all around. Yes, the lack of new content is disappointing and there is a rather steep learning curve to overcome before aiming with the Wii Remote becomes second-nature. But come on! Marrying an innovative control scheme to the best survival action game ever and presenting at a bargain price is something even the most brain-dead zombie can get behind. Isn't it?

If you’re a Wii owner and this one isn’t in your gaming pile, then you deserve a zombie infestation of your own.

By the time you reach the sickly-breathing beasts of las plagas perfection, you'll know to keep your ears as open as your eyes. Whether it's because you've run out of bullets, your health is low and you've no healing herbs, or you've come face-to-face with a seemingly invincible beast, you'll be tried many times, yet you won't turn away. Once you've shot and stabbed your way to the end, you may even want to go back for more – multiple times. Resident Evil 4 is that well-crafted of a game, and the Wii version is the pinnacle of its existence. Just remember to save your bullets.

If you're tickled pink that the RE series once again returns home to the PlayStation family of products where it belongs, rush out and invest in one of the best survival horrors games to date. RE4 is a refreshing take on the genre and manages to be just as taut and tense as previous titles without relying on the usual tried and true scare tactics. Clocking in at over 25 hours of gameplay (if you've never played before), RE4 never once bogs down in rehash or mindless repetition, managing to keep the pace on "alert" from start to finish which is a most impressive feat considering most two hour movies can't sustain that level of suspense. Highly recommended.

If there were one word to describe why Resident Evil 4 should take precedence over any other game right now, it would be "atmosphere." This game oozes it. It drips from every beautifully envisioned sign, or shanty, or windmill. It is visible in the crows that circle overhead and in the silence that is so abruptly unnerving that it forces you to become a part of the game. If Resident Evil brought survival horror to the masses, then this outing redefines it. It evolves the genre to such a degree that going back isn’t even an option.

With all the unlockable items from the Cube version available - which include two mini-games, new weapons, new difficulties, and a plethora of collectable figurines - this version also has a brand new side story involving "the girl in the red dress" (no spoilers here), a few unlockable costumes and a new Plaga-removal laser making the game with uber-replayability even more uber. You will play this more than once, you will show it to everyone who visits, and if all that isn't enough, you can show it off in proper widescreen.

Should you complete the game, several new games open up. This was big surprise and a lot of fun, since most of these games could really almost stand on their own. One in particular has you playing Ada, a mysterious woman who helps you on the island from time to time even though she is sort of working against you. There are parts in the main game where strange things will happen, like a hoard of villagers being called off of you right before they move in for the kill. In these bonus games you learn why some of these strange things you witness happened, since Ada was the one doing them. That's pretty darn clever and makes for a nice cherry on top this beautiful game.

These criticisms are almost negligible though, and in the face of extras such as unlockable missions involving the sexy Ada, and a cast of death-dealing studs in "The Mercenaries" -- they are washed away by a deluge of positives. The highest compliment I can pay to the already highly lauded Resident Evil 4 is this: it makes all other games in its genre seem utterly pointless. Post-RE4, every sin committed by every Silent Hill installment, every wrong step taken by even RE4’s own predecessors -- appear unforgivable.

Still, take away those little inconveniences and what's left is a non-stop thrill ride. It's simply amazing how Resident Evil 4 never lets up, as it constantly assaults the player with one horde of enemies after another — making it the sort of game I can see myself picking up for a run-through or two every few months and enjoying it just as much as the first time through.

While Resident Evil wasn't the first entry in the survival horror genre, the Resident Evil games have come to define survival horror, and to define different possibilities in gaming through the survival horror genre. After all of the games-Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, Code: Veronica, 0, Outbreak, Outbreak File 2, Survivor, remakes and re-releases, and the other less popular games in the series-two mainstream movies, comic book and novel versions, Resident Evil maintains a dominant presence in gaming and in the non-gamer perception of gaming. Fortunately Resident Evil has earned this presence, as each Resident Evil game offers quality gaming, and Resident Evil 4 on the PS2 is no exception.

When you take into account the quality of this game, the new weapons (there are some great ones in here), over-the-top bosses, deep storyline, and the bonus content, you can see why Resident Evil 4 on the PlayStation 2 is Game of the Year material. It is by far the best single player action experience you are going to find on the PS2 this year - and the best Resident Evil game since Resident Evil 2. If you haven't bought this game for the GameCube you'd have to be out of your mind to pass this one up. If you've already played it on the GameCube then you may or may not want to pick this one up again on the PS2 for the bonus material. Either way I highly recommend Resident Evil 4.

Anyone who doesn't own a GameCube, however, would be smoking crack rocks the size of my fist not to buy this game. At forty dollars, it is worth every penny, and given the quality of the translation to the aged hardware of the PlayStation 2, is absolutely one of the best games on the system. I, personally, was among the many cynics who wasn't sure if Capcom could pull it off, and I'm both amazed and humbled- I've often joked during my brief tenure with GameSpy that a game would have to (are you kidding? I'm not printing it here) in order for me to give it five stars- this one does, and then some. If there was any title that should be held prestigiously in the canon of any gamer's library, it's this one. If you're thinking about picking it up, do it. You won't have any regrets.

If you've grown weary of survival horror games for their transparent attempts at shock, RE4 will be refreshing. If you haven't played anything in this genre for a while, RE4 will be refreshing. If you've never played a survival horror game and like action with mood, RE4 will be refreshing. If first person shooters and other action games leave too much to be desired when it comes to story, pace and atmosphere, RE4 will be refreshing. In so many ways, Resident Evil 4 is refreshing and shouldn't be missed.

It is for a reason that Resident Evil 4 was awarded many and won many GOTY awards for both of the systems it was released for. Resident Evil 4, without a doubt, is one of the best games on the PS2, and is equally awesome as Metal Gear Solid 3 or God of War. Obviously, this game is a must-own for any one that likes horror, shooter and Resident Evil games. The main game will take you about 17 to 20 hours the first time, and you will replay the game at least once more. The extras should take as long too, and in total, you might spend as much time playing the game as 50 hours or more! There are always new things to do, and the game just gets better as you play. What are you waiting for? Go buy it now!

I have the GameCube version and I still went out of my way to retail buy the PS2 version, because I'm that into the story. For fans, this is one to get, and for those who have never actually put their fingers on a controller in the name of Resident Evil, get it. Buy it, hold onto it, and play the game that has put reviewers and gamers alike back on the edge of their seats in horror.

Resident Evil 4 should have set the world alight when it was originally released on the GameCube earlier in the year, but barring a disaster the masses should finally see what the fuss is about with this PlayStation 2 port. Purists will cling onto their GameCube copies, proclaiming that no one should buy anything other than the sacred original, but the fact that the average bloke browsing games in his local store will now have a chance of taking this home (rather than not noticing it at the back under a shelf of kiddy GBA titles) makes me very happy. This is one of the greatest games ever made and should be experienced by as many people as possible.

Gorgeous to look at, a dream to control, and filled with some of the most exciting moments you've experienced in a game, Resident Evil 4 is stellar on every level. It goes without saying that it's the best in the series, the best survival horror game yet, and simply one of the best games ever made.

Resident Evil 4 hat mich persönlich sehr beeindruckt. Ich konnte bislang mit dieser Reihe eher wenig anfangen und habe da Silent Hill bevorzugt. Resident Evil 4 hab ich mir eigentlich nur gekauft, weil ich die Special Edition günstig bekam und ich Steelbooks mag. Einmal angefangen, war ich aber doch sehr positiv überrascht. Das Spiel macht riesigen Spaß, ist abwechslungsreich, bietet viele interessante Szenen und als ich das Spiel nur mal kurz anspielen wollte, sind tatsächlich fast 7 Stunden vergangen. Insofern kann ich das Spiel nur jedem empfehlen. Es ist genial.

I could go on and on about the nuances of this new interpretation of the RE series, but the simple fact of the matter is this – it’s new and fresh and different from any Resident Evil you’ve ever played before. Lovers of action, survival horror, and even RPGs can get behind this game. I played it through to the end without stopping and was truly sad when the experience was over. Buy this game and you will not be disappointed. The 100% score speaks for itself.

If you're a traditionalist looking for more of the same in Resident Evil 4, you might be a little bit disappointed. For the rest of the progressive gamers out there that want some expansion with their franchise, Resident Evil 4 delivers a fresh and frightening perspective on the survival horror genre. Capcom has outdone itself with this one.

Simply put, Resident Evil 4 will blow you away. Hardcore fans may be disappointed that it puts more emphasis on action than puzzles and has a shaky tie to the rest of the series, but have faith. This game has been better than anyone could have expected. Great graphics, fantastic sound, and gameplay to die for, there very few reasons why you wouldn't want to pick this one up. If you are a gamer who wants a really, really good game with a healthy 20+ hours of playtime, RE4 is for you.

Please bear with me because this is a special moment, a minor milestone if you will, the first time I have ever approached a review with the solid and unwavering intention of awarding it that hallowed 10. It's a tricky number, a thorny one. For many it stands for perfection; while others just see it as 'the best that we can expect right now', perhaps even more confusing is that both these views are correct. It's the 10s that will be remembered, which lead to that defining moment when the reader either concludes you and he just don't think alike, or is moved to cement the bond because you are exactly on his wavelength.

These extras add a wonderful amount of replayability to a game that is so good that you'll want to play it multiple times anyway. After all this rambling, there should be only one thing on your mind: Resident Evil 4. There is no reason not to play this game right now. Capcom has done an incredible job with this game, and it has surpassed even the greatest hype going for it. Pick it up for your GameCube, and if you don't have a GameCube, this game is more than worth the purchase price. Even at the full price of $50, this game is a steal. I would gladly pay double for it, and once you play the game, you'll understand why. A must buy for anybody who is anybody.

So overall not only is it one of the best Gamecube games around it’s also one of the best games on any format, just amazing in every department. There are also things to unlock to add extra longevity to an already long game (by Resi standards) and a lot of enemies to kill along the way (my total was over 900!). You’ll also bump into a few familiar characters. Go buy it.

I'd say that Resident Evil 4 alone is worth owning a GameCube for if you don't already have one. It's that good, folks. It is "teh r0xx0r." It rules. And it consumes me so much, that I did a 12+ hour playing spree on it in one night. And fans of Resident Evil will probably do the same.

It's funny -- despite taking over 20 hours to complete, it felt like we spent a lot less time than that to make it through the game. We played through in roughly four, five-to-six hour chunks, and each one went by so quickly that it seemed like we played about three hours each time. Resident Evil 4 is the best GameCube game we've seen in a long while, and it's great to see Capcom back on top of its game.

It's certainly been a long time coming. But uphill battle though the development was, the game has only come out stronger as a result. Capcom has climbed that mountain. They have fixed this series. They have successfully brought a game that can, and should, make Resident Evil relevant again, and mainstream again. It blew me away, and it will do the same for you. I implore you to purchase this game. It deserves every penny of the $50 admittance fee.

Surprisingly the actual game isnât the only thing to witness massive changes, as Resident Evil 4 actually features half-decent voice acting for a change; sure there are moments that are classic Resident Evil, but in general both the script and dialogue are of a sufficiently high standard to completely embroil you into the experience. The same can be said for every aspect of Resident Evil 4 presentation; sound effects pack a meaty punch, whilst the subdued music kicks in during intense scenes to really ramp up the excitement.

It seems Capcom is quite taken with this new gameplay style, as it's designed an entire separate game around it. The Mercenaries mode puts Leon and other figureheads from RE4 inside an arcade-style gore fest where the only goal is killing armies of the blood-soaked villagers and their cloaked friends. Simply put, Resident Evil 4 is the tightest, most accessible game in the series and one of the best games out there.

Resident Evil 4 is a triumph of epic proportions that is sure to go down in history as one of the greatest game sequels ever made. High production value is the backbone supporting this richly engrossing gaming experience. Despite the games drastic changes it remains a must buy for fans the series and newcomers alike. Akin to what Metroid Prime did for the Metroid series, Resident Evil 4 retains the soul of the beloved series it has evolved… evil has evolved.

The graphics throughout are breathtaking — from naturalistic forests to the disturbing, Lovecraftian creatures that are sure to live with you long after you’ve switched off your console — and the twisting story will have you hooked until the end credits roll.

The chances are that the first thing you did upon loading up this review was to take a gander at the scores I've bestowed upon Capcom's lastest instalment, in a genre they arguably created. A perfect score all around? Surely it can't be - this title isn't even online! Can it possibly be this amazing? The answer is a very resounding YES!

If your kids watch horror movies without flinching there's no reason to avoid this game. It's an excellent horror story that casts your child as the hero of the story. He, despite his ludicrous haircut and boyband bangs, must rescue the President's daughter from evil Spanish cultists and much, much, worse. Winning is rewarded with new paths, new weapons, and new characters to play. Expect human seeming (but slow and zombie-like) cultists, evil priests, but surprisingly little occult content (the monstrosities aren't really science or religion inspired) also expect a really scary good time and an exhilerating adventure.

Long story short, if you were a skeptic, a naysayer or just a downright hater of Resident Evil, take my word when I say: Give it another shot. I was where you were just one week ago. I wasn't planning on spending a single moment with Resident Evil 4, but it took that same amount of time to get me hooked. Though the full game can take around 20 hours, and even longer with multiple playthroughs complete with unlockables, if you're still skeptical, give it a rental. I have a feeling your late fees will be tremendous.

Earlier this year, Resident Evil 4 blew me away when I played it on the GameCube. Never before had I experienced a game that so mastered the balance between action and atmosphere, between scares and furious combat. The pacing was simply amazing – every time I thought I might grow a little tired of what I was doing, something completely different popped up. Not only is Resident Evil 4 the best survival horror game I’ve ever played, it’s simply one of the best games. Unfortunately, the original version was not the smash hit it deserved to be, and Capcom decided to bring it to PS2 in search of a wider audience. Now, playing it again with slightly downgraded graphics, do I still feel as strongly about it? Yes, absolutely.

The walking dead have incoherently moaned, clumsily shuffled their feet, and affectionately given us crater-sized hickeys in every Resident Evil game to date. The animated corpses that put this series on the map and redefined video game horror as a whole are now buried six feet under the soil at Capcom’s Production Studio 4. It may be difficult to envision a Resident Evil game without flesh-eating zombies, but Capcom is showing us that there are far more terrifying things that go bump in the night. Nothing can truly prepare you for the unspeakable horrors that will hunt you until your last breath is given. It’s been a long time coming, but Resident Evil is back, and it is better and bloodier than ever before.

I’d guess that Capcom spent 90% of the development time of the Wii Edition working on the controls since it’s not like there is anything else new in the game. It shows, the controls are really tight and breathe new life into the game. Honestly, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition doesn’t need any exclusive bonus content to sell it; it’s such a complete game already. If you enjoyed either of the last two console versions, you’ll find a whole new reason to love Resident Evil, and if you missed those, now is the time to try. Just be warned: this is not your namby-pamby horror movie – be prepared to be truly horrified.

What’s to say’ This text has only really touched upon the core-dynamics of the game. Its been written that way to avoid spoiler territory, so that the player can reap the benefits of this awesome title. The genre started with Resident Evil. It ends with Resident Evil. Its only the start of 2005, but it’s going to have to take something mighty special to wrestle the probable forthcoming Game Of The Year accolade from Resident Evil 4. Best game on the GameCube’ Definitely. In fact, if there was ever a game that required the purchase of it’s native console just to play it, then this is it.

Turn off the lights, switch on the surround sound and prepare for an experience that won't be matched again for a long time. Game of the year? Well it's too early to call that, E3 is only weeks away now and 2005 still has a lot to bring, but it's certainly the best game so far this generation.

This isn’t your older brother’s Resident Evil. Heck, this isn’t your Resident Evil. This is, finally, the Resident Evil for everyone. Creepy, unnerving, intense, and downright fun, it proves that old dogs can learn new tricks. With a bevy of unlockables and a single-player freak-out well worth playing twice, there is much bang in this macabre buck. Drop 50 bones on this sucker even if you don’t have a GameCube -- if only to say you were smart enough to buy one of the best games of this generation.

The president's daughter (she's cuter than the Bush twins combined) has been kidnapped by a cult, and it's your job as government agent Leon Kennedy to travel to a lost-in-time European village and fetch her. Find-the-piano-scroll-type puzzles are kept to a minimum in this installment, while the ass-kicking has been maximized, thanks to an overhauled control scheme that let's Leon move like a normal human being instead of a Sherman tank in need of a lube job. Within minutes after the game loads, possessed villagers wielding pitchforks and chainsaws are bearing down on you. And just when you think the situation can't possibly get any worse, it always does. (Wait until you meet a cuddly creature later in the game known as "the Regenerator.") Call us crazy, but this is the first Resident Evil game that's so damn good we're actually thinking about taking a second tour of duty and reopening our zombie barbershop. Because zombies need haircuts, too.

In case you skipped through the past 1,600+ words above this paragraph, Resident Evil 4 is the epitome of the perfect video game. It contains several refinements to what was already a great gameplay formula, along with mesmerizing graphics, truly immersive sound, and an engaging and eye-catching story. Folks, if you were looking for not only the best survival/horror game ever made, and not only what is arguably the best game to ever grace the Gamecube platform, but one of the best action/adventure games of this current era of video games, your search is now over.

Of course, not everything is perfect. RE4 suffers from the KOTOR effect in that every basic villager pack is made up of the same five models (although other enemies vary greatly), and the plot begins to drag after about, oh, the 15th hour, especially when some fool is documenting everything, leaving his notes out in plain sight for Leon to find. The level design occasionally resembles a NASCAR track, and it would have been nice if Leon had a strafe function. But these are minor nitpicks; RE4 is still magnificent. It's a terrific, if tardy, showcase for the GameCube, and it's every bit as worthy as the Halos, the GTAs, and the MGSes of this generation. This is a stunning return to form.

It’s extremely rare that we hand out the top score, but we’ve done it already for Resident Evil 4 and what we have here is a more refined version than before: all the extras, new controls far better than the original system, packed into a game that we’ll probably still be doing yearly playthroughs in 10 years. This is how you do a port, so kudos to Capcom for creating the definitive version of Resident Evil 4 – now make us a new game of this calibre.

You can't possibly take away from a game because of one weak extra though. It's hard enough to believe Resident Evil 4 is running this smoothly on the PS2, and that alone will let an entirely new set of people experience one of the best video games this industry has ever seen. You're only doing a disservice to yourself if you haven't played through it yet.

Mark 2005 down in your calendars as the year of the director's cut. First it was stunning remix of Ninja Gaiden Black for Xbox that sent gamers back onto paths previously tread, and now Capcom gets into the act with their stupendously awesome recreation of their genre-defining action-horror game, Resident Evil 4.

PS2 gamers get the brain-splatteringly good Mercenaries minigame from the GameCube plus a little double dipping with sexy spy Ada Wong, who has more solo missions that flesh out her role in the game's bizarre plot. The bad ass new laser weapon and clever costume changes for Leon and Ashley are just icing on the gore-soaked cake. Simply put, Resident Evil 4 is the tightest, most accessible game in the series and one of the best games out there.

To prove its commitment to delivering a more modern experience, Capcom has developed an original storyline that eschews many of the series' mainstays including the dreaded T-Virus and the corporation responsible for it: Umbrella. Leon is no longer a member of the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S unit. Instead, he's on a special assignment for the U.S. Government to locate and return the president's daughter; an unknown organization has kidnapped young Ashley and taken her to remote European village.

Resident Evil 4 for the Playstation 2 has been a long time coming, and fans who don’t own a GameCube should pick this title up as soon as possible.

I never thought I would give a perfect score to a game that was a two year old port from the Gamecube to the PS2 and now onto the Nintendo Wii, where you would think it would just be the same game with a few minor changes. However what ends up happening is that the first few versions were great, but the Wii version is what the original game wanted to be, a truly exceptional find. A must own Wii title.

Best Resident Evil game. Ever! It represents the necessary evolution of the series and is a faithful port of the acclaimed GC title with added features for the PS2 audience.

The great thing about Resident Evil 4 is that it doesn’t give me the same feeling those games did. Not only has it impressed me but it has left me floored. I will go as far as to say that I believe that Resident Evil 4 is the best action game I’ve played to the date, in the same league as the great Ninja Gaiden and a handful of other notables. However, I do believe that there are a number of improvements that could’ve been made to the game to make it even better. In particular, I would’ve loved if the game’s puzzles were as difficult as those featured in previous Resident Evil games. Although, it’s possible that if Capcom were to include more challenging puzzles in a sequel to RE4 that many of the new fans they’ve gained with this game may feel a bit alienated when playing the sequel. Unfortunately, that is a risk Capcom may have to take in order to create, in my personal opinion, a better game.

Capcom has truly turned around an already kick ass franchise and made is 200% better. I was really looking forward to this game, and it exceeded my expectations. If this game came out in December it clearly would have been my 2004 console game of the year, yes beating out Halo 2 and San Andreas. But it slipped into 2005, and I will not forget this game come the end of 2005. Resident Evil 4 is a game to have whether you have a GameCube or not (go buy one just for this game!). All I can say is truly amazing. Bravo to Capcom and the developers of Resident Evil 4. I am drooling for Resident Evil 5 now. I am sure it is going to hit the Next-Gen consoles. But for now you must play this game. Resident Evil 4 is one of a kind. It is not by far my favorite game in months (even years). Resident Evil 4 is A MUST HAVE!

It took a long time before the series repeated the brilliance of the original title but Capcom have done it, and done it with style. Resident Evil has reclaimed the throne from not only the survival horror genre but it's possibly even become ‘the’ quintessential Gamecube game in the process. Totally flawless on the Cube, this is one game you simply can’t miss out on.

Resident Evil 4 will change the way you look at games. Never found a reason to get into the Resident Evil series or the survival-horror genre? Need a reason to buy a GameCube? Don’t know what this whole video game “craze” is all about? This is it. More than a game, it’s an experience that cannot be missed. This is the masterpiece that is Resident Evil 4.

I fully expected Resident Evil 4 on PS2 to be inferior to the Gamecube version. Surprisingly, load times are very inobtrusive, and the graphics are still breathtaking. If you haven’t played this game yet because you only own a PS2, you absolutely must purchase it immediately. It’s easily the Game of the Year so far in my opinion, and ranks among the very best videogames ever made.

Resident Evil 4 is a triumph of epic proportions. That should mean a ton coming from someone who was never a fan of the series. It will surely resurrect not only Resident Evil games but the entire survival-horror genre. With amazing and satisfying gameplay matched with unrivaled presentation, it’s sure to go down as one of the best games ever made.

This game is one of the best ever, and should be played by everyone, unless you’re five and will probably need a couple of pairs of underwear. It is a good reason for people without Gamecube’s to buy one, but whatever you do don’t miss out on this amazing experience.

So how does Resident Evil 4 hold up against other survivor horror games? Like I said, Resident Evil 4 is the best survivor horror game ever made. It’s also one of the best action games I’ve played in a very long time. If you’re a GameCube owner there’s no excuse for not picking up this game.

I could probably go on and on forever, but I’ll stop here. Resident Evil 4 is not just great. It’s not just exceptional. Hell, it’s not just absolutely terrific. It’s a living showpiece for the Nintendo GameCube that is a must-own for anybody brave enough to play it.

This game will immerse you so deep and frighten you so bad that you’re sure to scream like a little girl. It’s extremely entertaining, fun to play, and one of the best games ever made. It features an exceptional story, amazing graphics, frighteningly good audio, creative gameplay, and an incredible atmosphere that you won’t experience in any other game. To me this game is something special and (as Tom Cruise would say in his movie Jerry McGuire) “It completes me.”

Resident Evil has been redefined. In fact, survival horror, the genre that Capcom created with the inception of the original Resident Evil, has been redefined. With each installment, the series was beginning to get lost in a shuffle of survival horror games. Tecmo's Fatal Frame and Konami's demented Silent Hill series seemed to take the wheel, as they pushed the genre in new directions, while RE stuck with basically the same safe formula, acquiring small upgrades from game to game. Now we have Resident Evil 4, a game that represents a massive paradigm shift for the genre, and is a must-play for both series loyalists and survival horror newcomers.

Six years after the events in Resident Evil 2, the Umbrella Company is ruined. When the T-Virus was unleashed in Raccoon City, the US government nuked the location and then ended all relationships with Umbrella. Before too long, the corporation's stock price dropped and it retreated into obscurity. In the same time, hero Leon S. Kennedy began a career with the government, eventually becoming a highly trained agent. Resident Evil 4 begins as Kennedy is dispatched on a top-secret mission to find and safely return the President's kidnapped daughter from a remote location in Europe.

This game has officially spoiled me. Literally everything about Resident Evil 4 is oozing with style and meticulous attention to detail. For the amount of things Capcom changed about the series, they hit the mark on a remarkable number of them. You can tell when you play a videogame if the project meant a lot to the developers working on it. If this is their baby it shows in the final product and really does make the game much more enjoyable, both in terms of being able to see how much work went into it and seeing how successful they were in making it a reality. Beyond Good and Evil was somebody's baby. Ikaruga was somebody's baby. Resident Evil 4 is very clearly Capcom's baby. It doesn't matter if you aren't a fan of the RE series. It doesn't matter if you aren't a fan of the genre. This game truly is something special. You're foolish if you pass up even just trying the game out. Resident Evil 4 isn't perfect, but it's pretty close.

Resident Evil 4 is the highest rated game in the short existence of WHAM! Gaming. It’s not perfect, but it's as close as this reviewer has seen it in the last 2 years. If you don’t own a Gamecube, you owe it to yourself to think long and hard about purchasing one to play the best survival horror game ever made.

Much like Eternal Darkness, the game that I refer as the best survival horror game, Resident Evil 4has been in development for years, delayed time and again. The last Resident Evil on GCN, Resident Evil 0, was planned for the Nintendo 64, but scrapped and brought over to GCN, just as Eternal Darkness was. Resident Evil 4 hopes to take the series in a frightfully new direction. Does the new formula work?

Resident Evil 4 displays such extreme mastery of the videogame medium that it deserves far more than any review could give it, which essentially makes the thousands of sycophantic words we've just battered out redundant. So, we'll finish with the review we thought about running: Resident Evil 4. The perfect videogame? Pretty bloody close.

The biggest news of all came when Capcom released the first screenshots, revealing the evolutionary change that the series' creator had promised: new gameplay. GameCube-powered backgrounds replace the pre-rendered sets of the old games. Since the camera is no longer restricted, the developers decides to move it behind the character (in this case Leon Kennedy), creating an eerie, through-the-eyes-of-the-character experience. This isn't a first-person shooter (which I'm extremely thankful for), but you can aim and shoot wherever you please. Precise headshots? You got 'em!

What else is left to say? If you've never played RE4 before, then the Wii version is by far the best version of an absolutely amazing game. If you've played it on other systems already, I still recommend picking up the Wii version anyway. I had already completed the game on GameCube during its original release, and the game still gave me sweaty palms and made me jump a foot in the air on more than one occasion on the second go around. The Wii controls add so much to an already sublime horror experience, and how can you go wrong with a game that's reasonably priced at almost half of the average going rate for a Wii title? This is the best game to date on the Wii, period. If you own a Wii, you owe it to yourself to discover or rediscover one of the scariest and flat-out best games ever made.

Those who have never played this classic are in for a treat – it's simply one of the most intense and exciting action/adventure games in years, regardless of hardware. Those who have played it can marvel at a damned impressive conversion, and all the new features added to this edition, though perhaps with just a rental, though you do have to beat the main game to see the new stuff. Either way, Resident Evil 4 not only revived a stagnant franchise, it's changed the rules of survival horror games in general – where instead of a heavy emphasis on horror, RE4 puts survival first. Suddenly the wait for Resident Evil 5 is that much longer.

Resident Evil 4 is perhaps the best sign that developers are in fact listening to what we players are saying. It fixes almost every complaint anyone has ever had about the franchise and in the process manages to create one of the greatest games of this generation, and possibly all time. If you're a Resident Evil fan, you'll love this game. If you're not a fan, chances are you'll still love this game. If you just like games in general, I am willing to bet you will still love this game! Capcom has created an experience not unlike an excellent film – except this time you're living the experience through the eyes of Leon S. Kennedy. This is the type of game that can, and probably will, sell systems. Resident Evil is once again the king of survival horror. Welcome back.

No hace falta extenderse mucho en este apartado. Sencillamente nos encontramos ante uno de los mejores juegos de Gamecube -y Playstation 2, después de su reciente salida- y de la generación. Un apartado técnico de lujo y una jugabilidad frenética y adictiva son las mayores bazas de Resident Evil 4, que consigue darle a la saga un giro que muchos detractores estaban esperando, aunque se aleja un poco de las bases de la misma y por tanto de los fans más acérrimos y puristas. Aún así, se trata de un juego muy recomendable para todo el mundo y que debes probar si no te molestan un argumento algo pobre, un desarrollo un poco monótono y la ausencia de exploración y partes pausadas. Bueno, y si te molestan también.

If you didn't know by now, it's without doubt one of the best games of the year, even of all time. It's a remarkable reinvention of Resi that constantly thrills and amazes, yet when you look at the basics of the game it's incredibly linear and repetitive - it's just Leon blasting his way through continental Europe. What helps is that every gunshot feels as fresh as the first, the graphics and animation are sublime and every set piece surprises. But after deliberating long and hard, we've decided that reason that Resi 4 is so magnificent is because it's magic - it's been created by some unexplainable Capcom wizardry that makes it appeal to everyone with an ounce of gaming sense. Make sure you fit into that category and play this game.

Since its debut on the PlayStation in 1996, the genre-defining Resident Evil series has had its ups and downs, though it's always remained at the forefront of survival horror games. Yet it's not enough to call Resident Evil 4 one of the high points of the series, because this is probably the single greatest horror-themed action game ever created. Resident Evil 4 is an amazing achievement in a variety of ways, especially in how its inspired, state-of-the-art cinematic presentation works so well with its relentlessly exciting, white-knuckle action, all of which is wrapped up in a decidedly lengthy adventure chock-full of hidden secrets and bonus extras.

If there are any disappointing aspects of Resident Evil 4 - Wii Edition it is the lack of Wii-specific content beyond the new control scheme. At the same time, the motion-based controls add just enough to the game that it feels completely different and is worth a play - even if you already have.

There is absolutely no reason to pass this game up, even if you’ve played it a million times before. The new motion controls add quite a bit to the experience, and make a very intense game even moreso. If you’ve never played RE4 before, your first time playing it would easily score a 9.9 in terms of Lawrence.com’s ratings scale. The only reason I’m knocking it down a few points is because most gamers have gone through it numerous times before. Regardless of whether or not you have….pick this one up.

While the PS2 version does suffer in the control and visual department, the two most important aspects of the game, hence not quite obtaining the top score the GC version received earlier in the year despite the extra content, it’s an essential game on whatever format you pick it up on. Turn off the lights, switch on the surround sound and prepare for an experience that won't be matched again for a long time. Game of the year? Few could argue otherwise.

This is the single best survival horror game ever made, besting even the Silent Hill series in raw visceral thrills. It’s not nearly as scary, but it makes up for it with an incredible story, tons of replay value, and a game length that’s uncharacteristically stretched for the series. Go buy this game, and go buy it right freaking now.

If you're a horror fan or an action gamer, you've honestly got no excuse; Resident Evil 4 is your kind of title. You'll need to bring your A game, as this is unapologetically difficult, but you'll be rewarded for your effort with one of the most polished shooters of this console generation.

La conversión de la gran apuesta de Capcom durante este año 2005 ha resultado ser casi perfecta, manteniendo el nivel en todos sus apartados pero con algunos recortes en el terreno gráfico que eran inevitables. Eso sí, a cambio nos ofrece unos extras muy completos, destacando por supuesto la misión paralela de Ada Wong que convierte el soso argumento de Resident Evil 4 en algo más complejo y satisfactorio. No lo perdáis de vista, hayáis jugado o no al título de Gamecube.

Porque Resident Evil 4 não é um bom jogo, é um excelente jogo de acção (apanhei-vos por uns segundos, hã?). Está praticamente isento de falhas - hoje em dia um jogo que tenha só duas ou três coisas a apontar-lhe é quase sinónimo de perfeição -, é intenso e variado do princípio ao fim, possui uma excelente duração de vida e incita a voltar a jogar, traz extras de classe, tecnicamente é do melhor de sempre, e… e… Ainda aí estão? Vão comprar o jogo!

Resident Evil 4 is the best Resident Evil game ever made, and among the best titles on the Gamecube. The only reason a Gamecube owner shouldn’t get this game is if they are underage or are squeamish. If you didn’t like a previous RE, cast your doubts aside and get RE4. If you like RE, you should immediately try RE4. Resident Evil 4 is unquestionably one of the best gaming experiences on the Gamecube.

Everyone knew Resident Evil 4 would be good. But no one expected it to end up this good. The differences from the other games in the series make this one shine above the rest. Konami must have taken Capcom’s hint as well – Silent Hill 5 will do away with the cinematic camera angles and go for an entirely first-person view (at least according to the series’ producer). Change is good, people. Resident Evil 4 has changed the series, and now I don’t think I’ll ever be able to play another old-school Resident Evil again without feeling immense disappointment (Outbreak 2, I’m looking at you).

I remember falling in love with the first game, but finding that my love slowly ebbed away with each subsequent sequel. Resident Evil 4, however, has rekindled that desire, reignited the passion and fervor for the genre and is a fantastic example, to me, of what the future of survival horror will look like. While there are a few minor issues to be found within the game, the overall whole is practically perfect and well thought out. It is apparent to me that this was a project that was loved from the moment it was dreamt up and that sense of caring simply shines through like a beacon in the darkness. If you pick up one Gamecube game this year (and the year is young), this game should be the one. It really is that good. I'd easily call it a candidate for game of the year, even if it's still January!

Resident Evil games will never go back to the old format. There’s simply no way Capcom would ever make us suffer through that after a taste of this game. Everything – absolutely everything - works better in this game than in any RE title before. The end result is a game that is a total blast to play through. If you’ve been burned by the dated RE formula in the past, I’d tell you that you owe it to yourself to rent it… but then you’d be irate because you wasted six bucks only to spend another $50 so you can own it. Resident Evil 4 is a masterpiece; the entire survival horror genre has just been redefined.

This is without a doubt the best survival horror game we've ever played. An absolutely an amazing achievement that innovates and redefines not only the series but its genre, in so many ways. The eerie atmosphere and creepy settings, inhabited by intelligent yet relentless enemies, helps maintain the game's high level of tension from beginning to end - making for an experience players won't soon forget. Every thing about RE4 rocks, from the awesome graphics, sound, to the stellar gameplay and bonus extras. If you haven't experienced Resident Evil 4 yet, you should be ashamed.

Resident Evil 4 is like Michael Meyers or Jason Vorhees – the classic horror villain who just won’t die. Right when you think it’s finally safe to turn your back and focus on your next quest for survival, it pieces its shattered skull back together, grabs a pitchfork, and continues its blind quest to hunt you down. But unlike the clichéd slasher stars of the ‘80s, this is one zombie we’re not tired of seeing brought back to life.

Moins impressionnant, graphiquement parlant, que la version GameCube, cette adaptation témoigne pourtant d'une véritable volonté de Capcom de proposer aux joueurs de vrais bonus afin de contenter tout le monde. Le mode Separate Ways est intéressant et dispose de nouveaux environnements, on retrouve tous les modes de jeu originaux, l'aventure est toujours aussi longue et même après avoir terminé le jeu sur la 128 bits de Nintendo, vous prendrez un pied monstrueux sur le monolithe noir de Sony. C'est là la marque d'un grand jeu qui fera figure de modèle pour de nombreuses années à venir. Un titre d'exception, un OVNI vidéoludique, une expérience hors normes à laquelle vous vous devez obligatoirement de participer.

Resident Evil 4 est une oeuvre fragile qu'il convient de manier avec une extrême précaution. Joyau intarissable ne cessant de dévoiler des surprises toujours plus incroyables aux joueurs, le titre de Capcom est un hommage au plaisir vidéoludique né d'un graphisme et d'un gameplay frôlant la perfection. Tout contribue à ce que vous ne passiez pas à côté de ce jeu, qui non content d'apporter un vent de fraîcheur sur la série réussit son pari d'innover en conservant une certaine logique tournée vers l'action. Jamais le mot « survie » n’avait autant pris tout son sens dans un jeu ! Resident Evil 4 est un véritable choc et donne enfin un coup de jeunesse à une série qui en manquait sérieusement. Ce titre fait très mal et sur tous les points, et même la durée de vie est bonne, à tel point qu’on a droit au plus long épisode de la saga. Moi-même j’en doutais au début, pensant avoir affaire à un simple jeu bourrin, mais non. Le renouveau de la série est bien là, et espérons que Capcom ne s’arrête pas en si bon chemin !

Millions of gamers lost touch with Resident Evil when it jumped ship. Here's your chance to make things right. Resident Evil 4 is Capcom's finest work. Everyone talks about production values, and as much as I hate to look at a game that way, there's no denying how much time and money was put into RE4's development. The graphics are beautiful, the monsters are unreal, and the gameplay is the most action-packed a survival/horror game has ever been. You're not always running, but you're constantly on the move and constantly in fear. It's a grand experience.

Normalerweise ist es etwas irre, schon im Februar von einem "Spiel des Jahres" zu reden. Aber was ist an Resident Evil 4 schon normal? Grafik und Sound sind so außergewöhnlich, dass ich verwundert meinen GameCube abklopfe: "Wow, Kleiner, was du so alles draufhast ..." Dass ich noch um halb drei in der Nacht adrenalingesättigt und wild fluchend ganze Schrotflintenladungen in irre Kultisten pumpe, liegt letztendlich am fantastischen Gameplay. Der Spielablauf ist eine Aneinanderreihung von haarsträubenden Höhepunkten: aufwühlend, mitreißend, erfreulich abwechslungs- und umfangreich. Mit der teilweise unausgewogenen Inszenierung der Vorgänger hat das alles nicht mehr viel zu tun. Resident Evil 4 ist eine eigenständige, zeitgemäße Action-Großartigkeit, die kein ehrbarer (volljähriger) Spieler verpassen sollte.

If you’re an avid listener of Radio Free Nintendo, then you know I wasn’t a big supporter of this game when it was announced, saying that $30 was too much for what it offered if you’ve already played through the game. Well, as a former hater, let me tell you: I was wrong, and the game is totally worth it. I had a ton of fun playing through RE4 again, and I’d never go back to the GameCube version now that I’ve used the Wii remote and nunchuk. RE4 was already an exemplary game it was first released, and now it’s even better. Pick it up as soon as you can.

It's almost impossible for anyone to convey in words just how great this game is. It's a title that absolutely must be experienced by any decent GameCube owner. Those who do not have the console should immediately pick one up. "Resident Evil 4" will go down as one of the best games to hit store shelves from this generation of systems. It should also plant itself on multiple "greatest of all time" lists. It certainly deserves it.

With this generation of games consoles entering its final year or so, Resident Evil 4 will be looked upon as one of its defining moments. Its development was clearly a labour of love, with almost every element refined to a state of utter perfection. The few minor niggles that remain are so insignificant as to have no bearing whatsoever on your enjoyment, it’s that good. At the adventure’s opening, one of Leon’s companions comments ‘You are a long way from home cowboy’. Certainly, Resident Evil 4 represents the most radical departure from the series’ more familiar stomping grounds; but also represents the most highly accomplished. As a package it’s one of the most engrossing, enjoyable and downright rewarding pieces of entertainment in from any form of media. Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to re-enter the world of survival horror.

There was no escaping the buzz that Capcom's Resident Evil 4 generated earlier this year when it launched on Nintendo's GameCube. Shortly before it hit stores, Capcom announced PS2 owners would be able to enjoy a ported and somewhat expanded version later in the year. Skeptics hissed. Fanboys guffawed. And even this reviewer cynically questioned, "How can it be done so quickly?" Nobody doubted Capcom's talents.

There's really not much to say about a game that has won several game of the year awards. I mean, yeah, I could rant and rave about how this is the greatest of the series ever: of course, that may not be entirely true. I could also claim that Resident Evil will always be the title to beat when it comes to survival horror games. Even though all of those things may be true, there is simply one thing that must be said about the new edition for the game. You must own it, even if that means racing to the game store to find one of the reclusive Wiis. The president's daughter's been kidnapped - it's up to us.

Resident Evil 4 is just as entertaining today as it was two years ago. It is one of those truly addicting games that one can play over and over again into the wee hours of the morning. The Wii edition is without a doubt the definitive version of this classic. Nevertheless, with the exception of the controls and the Umbrella Chronicles trailer, there is very little in this release that players have not seen before. Whether or not the game is worth buying is largely dependent upon how much one likes Resident Evil 4 and which version they own. Perhaps the Wii edition’s saving grace will be its incredible bargain price of $30. At that cost, even veterans of the game will be remiss not to add it to their Wii library. For those unfortunate souls who did not get a chance to play Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube or PS2, there is no better way to experience the satisfying sound of a zombie’s head exploding like a watermelon than with this edition.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition probably won’t have the same impact on gamers as the original did on the Gamecube in 2004 (2005 in New Zealand) but that doesn’t make it any less of a game. If you’ve never experienced the terror of Resident Evil 4 then there’s no better version than this. Overall, if you already have the GameCube version and are not dying to see the five extra chapters added on for the PS2 version, you are probably okay with sticking with that version. If you are a die-hard Resident Evil fan, you’ll want that added bit of storyline, so you probably already own this game. If you are someone who has never given Resident Evil a chance because of survival horror naysayers, Resident Evil 4 is the game to turn you. Go out and buy it now!

Yet all of this is knit picking in the extreme. Resident Evil 4 is one of those games that really demands the attention of all gamers, not just fans of the genre. The fact it is an excellent action horror game is secondary to the fact that it's simply a brilliant game. It's so well crafted, so brilliantly realised and so sublimely toned that anyone who enjoys good quality gaming will be both impressed and entertained. It's reason alone to own a Gamecube and reason alone to give the series another go. In my opinion it's the best in the series since the first and Capcom's finest release since Viewtiful Joe. You simply have to play it.

Resident Evil 4 isn't the most scary action-adventure we've ever played. On the other hand, it's one of the best action games I've tried out in a long time and maybe even the best ever! The finishing, the graphics and sound, the revolutionary changes in gameplay, the accessibility and perfectly worked out controls, the creative and surprising characters and bosses, the never-ending variation and beautiful storyline that keeps everything together. Resident Evil 4, my dear friends, is simply a must-have! If you don't have a Gamecube yet, there are two things to do now: get one and add RE4 with it. A mixture of all these great elements make this one hell of a great game, one that every PS2 owner should consider buying. Having only briefly playing the older games, and my survival/horror knowledge only being previously limited to Devil May Cry, the game was a bit of a gamble purchase for me, but I definitely feel like it was more than worth it. The game itself will last you more than 20 hours, and with the extra content and hidden extras, you'd be doing yourself a big favor if you went out and bought the game as soon as possible.

This game has some of the best atmosphere of any game I've played in recent memory. Everything really builds into playing a really good horror film. Sure, it has some cliché moments, and parts of it can come off as ridiculous at times: Like why they only sent one guy in after the president's daughter, with no backup apart from two Spanish cops who die in the first five minutes. And despite the fact he has a radio that he can use to call in help, he never does. But all this aside, you'll really love Resident Evil 4 no matter who you are. The game is simply a work of art because of all the things it does right, and most importantly, because it brings the exact kind of gameplay experience the designers strived to achieve.

Deeply rooted in gun slinging action and wrapped in the most gorgeous graphics you'll ever see, Resident Evil 4 marks a feast for any gamer, no matter how unfamiliar they may be with Uncle Horror.

I can think of a lot of other things I'd like to see in Resident Evil 4, but you've got to look at what's actually there. Capcom's reinvented the wheel in high style, and while they've traded in their usual attempts at horror in favor of intensely creepy action, the game's better for it. This is the first great GameCube title of 2005.

At a starting price of only $29.99, it cheaper than many Wii games with half the content and care. So please, developers and publishers, let Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition end the wave of last-generation ports on a high note, or at least hold to the standard of quality the game has established.

At first glance the game may seem to be just another game in the series. Yet it is the first game in quite some time to actually push the story to a new level. The destruction of Racoon City was not the end of the story, which lets fans everywhere breathe a collective sigh of relief. Our heroes and heroines will continue to fight on and, with the upcoming release of The Umbrella Chronicles, a new view on the origins of the story will tide us over until Resident Evil 5.

So is this really worth your money? Yes. Yes it is. It was worth the money three years ago, and it will be worth the money three years from now. I still have to have someone in the room with me when playing as Ashley and I still squirm every time I hear the tell-tale buzz of a chainsaw. There is not much new in the game, but as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Based on the fact that I still had a blast replaying this game for the 4th time, I’m keeping with a rating of 5 Gems even though I’ve set the Value rating at 3, because to give RE4 anything less than 5 would be blasphemous.

In fact, the only reason it's not getting a perfect score is because of the fact that it's now two years old and not quite as groundbreaking as it was when it was first released - but if you've never played it before then it's without doubt a must buy. Although given a mark of 9, for anyone who hasn't played it before, you can quite easily push that up to a 10 aTs tThis is unquestionably one of the finest gaming experiences to ever grace home consoles and is a testament to what can be achieved when developers aren't rushed into releasing a game before it is ready. It may have taken four years, but mby God, was it worth it. Simply put, one of the finest games out there just got that little bit better.

This remake is of significant importance because it re-affirms that, when executed with care, games from the days before Nintendo Wii can benefit from being adapted for the remote. So, all in all, what’s to be made of RE4? In many ways, it is an extremely impressive piece of work and it lacks any major flaw. I can certainly understand why so many people love it and rate it so highly. Yet, personally, I never managed to become truly enamoured of it. Partly, this was because of the niggles I mentioned above, but mostly it was because at some level I just didn’t buy into the whole thing. I’d be pretty sure that the vast majority of the game’s most ardent devotees are horror fans and I suspect that you need to be one to really love it, even if, like me, you like action games. In terms of the enjoyment I personally derived from playing RE4, I honestly couldn’t say I’d rate it as more than 8/10, but at some level it seems a tad unfair to give it that. So, donning my objective hat, I guess I’d have to go for 9/10 as a final score. It is a very good game… although my head says that more convincingly than my heart.

If you thought Resident Evil 4 was great on the GameCube, prepare to experience it in a whole new way on the PlayStation 2. With new modes and content that are guaranteed to scare you to the core, it's a good time to own a PS2.

The conventional wisdom about Nintendo, beginning with NES and continuing to the GameCube, has been that there simply aren't enough games. More specifically there has never been enough third-party support for games that grown-up gamers actually want to play. Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda are all great, fun, classic games, but in a world dominated by Grand Theft Auto and Halo clones, there just doesn't seem to be much room in Nintendo's world for games that may hook in older and more experienced gamers. Well apparently the developers over at Capcom never got the memo from conventional wisdom, as proven by "Resident Evil 4."

I'll keep it very short this time. "Resident Evil 4", the latest installment in the RE series from Capcom is the 'finest horror game up to date' and will give you the creeps as long as you play it. The game is a masterpiece, a jewel and even if you were no fan of any RE, then I still would advice you to rent the game because you'll love it!

Nature dictates that all organisms must evolve and adapt to their new environments in order to survive. The same can be said for videogames, and Capcom know this. The Resident Evil series deserves our respect for propelling survival horror into mass success, popularising the formula laid down by Alone In The Dark before it; but the franchise was getting stale. After three sequels, a prequel, a remake and various shoddy spin-offs, the name was losing its shine. Known less as a moniker for the fine design and scares of the earlier games it was fading into a joke; one known as much for its cumbersome conventions than its achievements. A change was needed to show everyone that RE could still deliver, and RE4 is by all accounts that affirmation.

Even when you have finished the main game, the addictive mercenaries mode awaits offering you a fun high score challenge. And this mini game seems to sum up the philosophy behind the main game, reminiscent of old games with boss characters, time limits and high scores yet with the slick presentation and violence that characterises this generation of games. It isnít a perfect game this is for sure, it suffers from some repetition (although as stated above not as much as other games) and an awful story but these are forgivable in the light of what this game is setting out to be. As an epic action based adventure game with elements of horror this is a fantastic game and even if you arenít a fan of the horror genre this game is too refined and frankly majestic to miss. A masterful game that is a defining moment from this generation of consoles.

You know what the funny thing is? I hate survival horror games. I’ve found them to be tedious and unnerving. However, there’s something about Resident Evil 4 that draws me back again and again. Maybe it’s the action-packed gameplay, the execution of the story, or even the wonderfully vivid presentation. Whatever it is, this game is something special. It places you in the shoes of a capable hero, drops you off in the middle of nowhere, and expects you to learn how to survive against impossible odds. It provides a simple but intriguing storyline, complete with a cast of great characters and memorable dialogue. While it does have a few unimaginative puzzles, the game pits you against some of the most fearsome and ugly sins against creation that the gaming world has ever seen. But above all else, Resident Evil 4 is just plain fun. You can’t go wrong with that.

It's easy to get swept up amongst the hype, but it's hard to deny this is arguably the survival horror genre's most significant landmark title since the original Resident Evil itself. Like the game's enemies, the series has had its insides scooped out and replaced. Such transformation is a positive sign that even inside genres that have sluggishly fallen from grace, there can be change for the better.

In paving the way to venture into un-chartered territory Shinji Mikami has done the very same thing he did with the release of Resident Evil nine years ago – he’s taken an established formula and turned it on its head. And in doing so he’s not only created the best survival horror title yet: he’s also crafted one of the greatest gaming experiences on any platform.

And yes, that is our only gripe with this game. The final point we will make before the summary is on the sound. Often a hugely ignored aspect of games, you can't ignore what is on display here in RE4. The guns sound just delicious, especially the more powerful weapons, the sound of bullet on cranium is superb...and we're not even mentioning the best bits. The voice acting is also very believable, thankfully actors worth their salt have been roped in this time to give the plot some real creditability.

Of course I limped my way through a few of the chapters, but I cut through other chapters like Gary Cooper in High Noon—pardon my crudeness—kicking ass all over the damn place. Instead of feeling constantly oppressed, instead of feeling like the game world was always imposing its will on me, instead of always feeling helpless and hopeless, there are moments in Resident Evil 4—Bruce Campbell-style "Come get some"/"Who wants to have a little?" moments—when I felt like I was imposing my will on the game world. No, Resident Evil 4 isn't perfect—the game peaks too early, becomes overly repetitious, and doesn't seem to know when to end—but these moments of bad-ass, shotgun-pumped empowerment help this franchise, which I'd given up for dead long ago, finally begin to realize its full potential.

I can say, without any regret whatsoever, that Resident Evil 4 is the best game in the series and a step in the right direction for the series as a whole. Any issues that were plaguing the previous installments are all forgotten and forgiven with this game. It’s got a great flow, an excellent story, characters you can actually care about, and is just plain fun to play. It all culminates in about 20+ hours of enjoyment. If you’ve condemned the series due to the stale gameplay, Resident Evil 4 will be your bouquet of flowers offering forgiveness.

I can’t come up with anything that really puts me off about Resident Evil 4. Everything is polished and you’re always kept on your toes by interactive movie sequences. It’s involving and unique. Anyone can play it and have a good time whether you’re alone or with your buds. Everyone around it will be entertained and ready to jump when that next monster appears. This may turn out to be one of the greatest games of 2005.

So in the end I slapped Resident Evil 4 with an impressive 4.5 score because, even though just like its predecessors it's a prisoner of its own design, it does so many things right that I couldn't sweat the small stuff. It's a highly enjoyable trek into a grotesque world whose horror yarn must be seen all the way through. Terrifying, hair-raising, and wickedly intense, Resident Evil 4, just like the first game did several years ago, has raised the bar for future games not only from Capcom but from the likes of Konami and Tecmo. You are about to enter the world of survival horror! Good luck!

Capcom have achieved that great feat of managing to shed off the problems of the past without forgetting how they came to be here and the result is not only a joy to play but, compared to previous titles, is almost epic in length and introduces extra missions and weapons after the first time through that enhance the replay value even further. In a way parallel to the dark, Darwinesque message close to its soul, the Resident Evil species has adapted and, as a consequence, continues not only to survive, but to flourish.

If you don't yet own this game, then immediately invest and enjoy the splendor. Resident Evil 4, when all is said and done, is still a remarkable experience that brings about a new high point for the series, and stands as one of the best games this year...no matter what the platform. This new edition will whip PS2 fans into a frenzy, while no doubt making GameCube owners grumble to themselves that they got robbed. Hey, take heart- you've been having all the fun for nine months now. And no one ever said it was over, right?

I gave the GameCube version of Resident Evil a perfect 10, but that was many years ago. How can it compare to games like Bioshock and Gears of War for the Xbox 360? It can’t... But if you own the GameCube or the Playstation 2 version of Resident Evil 4, trade it in for this one. The Wii controls are tight and the new price-tag is not that bad at all in terms of a new Wii game. All of the added PS2 features are in this version as well. My only gripe is that they did not up the graphics a bit for the Wii. Either way, you can’t really complain because there is a RE game on the Wii. And its a pretty damn good one as well. It may be a bit old and a bit dates, but Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is a must-buy for anyone... er... except kids. This is NOT a kids game. :) Pick it up today!

Resident Evil 4 probably deserves a 10 out of 10 rating but the lack of provision for deaf gamers prevents us from awarding the game with such a score. Despite the inadequacies in catering for deaf gamers though it's still a great game and if you're a fan of the series or of action games in general you can't help but be impressed with what Capcom have done with the series. Giving the game a D rating may seem a little harsh but it's one game where being able to hear the nearby (but out of sight) enemies is really a bonus.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is the paramount version of the game to get, bar none. Priced at $30 – possibly lower within the future – the graphical tweaks and the completeness of this package make it the ideal gaming pinnacle for this fantastic game for a few year's passed. And, to say the least, you'll have a blast busting through this zombie infection with your Wii-mote firmly in hand. Considering price, availability to resale previous versions, and the extras inclusions, this phenomenal package very easily earns VGTalk's Collector Series moniker.

Of course, it takes more than dodgy controls and some spiky edges to ruin one of the greatest gaming experiences ever, but every time we capped a villager we just wished we were doing it on our GameCube.

Resident Evil has never played better than it does with Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. Owners of the Wii that have never played RE4 before should make this game an instant purchase. Veterans of the series that have already played RE4 might want to take another look with the Wii version.

Na bitte, Action-Adventures auf der Wii funktionieren also doch, auch wenn sie nicht Zelda heißen. Der Übertitel auf dem Gamecube macht auch auf Nintendos aktueller Konsole eine rundum gute Figur und bereichert das erstklassige Gameplay mit einer durchdachten Steuerung. Vor allem die Shooter-Abschnitte profitieren enorm von der Bewegungserkennung. Dass es inhaltliche keine Neuerungen gibt, ist zwar schade, doch aufgrund des günstigen Preises ein vernachlässigbarer Kritikpunkt. Wer bisher Capcoms Actionmeisterwerk noch nicht gezockt hat oder erst jetzt volljährig geworden ist sollte sofort zugreifen. Aber selbst Kenner des Originals werden mit der Wii-Umsetzung ihren Spaß haben.

Difficile d'apposer une note à cette version Wii dans le sens où le jeu en lui-même n'apporte rien de bien nouveau par rapport aux autres versions tout en se voulant toujours aussi bon. Si les principales différences se situent au niveau du gameplay, qui propose ici une plus grande précision si tant est qu'on réussisse à dompter la Wiimote et le Nunchuk, on peut également être déçu que le tout sonne comme une obligation de Capcom de proposer ce type de jouabilité pour légitimer cette adaptation. Toutefois, à 40 euros, on se demande bien ce qui pourrait empêcher quelqu'un qui n'a pas touché à ce chef-d'oeuvre sur GameCube, PS2 ou PC d'acquérir cette merveille.

Ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich lieber Resident Evil 5 in meinen Händen halten würde, aber auch die spielerisch einwandfreie Wii-Version von Teil vier kann sich natürlich sehen lassen. Klar, die Optik beeindruckt nicht mehr so wie vor zwei Jahren, aber das Spiel ist und bleibt ein absoluter Hit. Hinzu kommt die zwar zunächst gewöhnungsbedürftige, aber dann voll funktionsfähige Steuerung, sowie die PS2-Boni, die Nintendo-Jüngern bis jetzt verwehrt blieben. Ein gelungenes Best-of zu einem fairen Preis. Mein Tipp: Zuschlagen!

Resident Evil 4 est un chef d'œuvre que cela soit sur GameCube, PS2 ou maintenant Wii. Reste que cette dernière version est la plus complète et propose une maniabilité qui dépoussière un peu le jeu. Un délice d'aligner les « zombies » avec la Wiimote, de recharger d'un coup de poignet et d'entendre le bruit du chargeur dans sa manette. Simple mais terriblement efficace. Un lifting graphique aurait été le bienvenu mais un chef d'œuvre de ce calibre est bien au dessus de ce genre de considération. Shinji Mikami a réalisé un jeu qui a marqué l'histoire du jeu vidéo et cette version Wii avec un petit prix de vente va sûrement permettre à de nouveaux gamers de s'essayer à ce petit bijou du jeu vidéo.

As a big fan of the cinema, I’m often disappointed that strong horror and suspense movies are few and far between these days. Resident Evil 4 is just that, though — a phenomenal horror movie you’re able to control. It puts you on the edge of your seat and keeps you there for the entire ride. Granted, some players might not enjoy the level of intensity Resident Evil 4 exudes, but those people aren’t the game’s intended audience. Rather, it’s for players who want to feel like they’re in the middle of a nightmare and must rise to the occasion to save the day. I recommend Resident Evil 4 not just to those who love scary games, but to everyone who appreciates games that challenge, engage and entertain.

Resident Evil 4 is an epic action game filled with ominous and malicious enemies. It provides a shockingly large amount of game time (with Separate Ways, expect to be playing this game in the 25-30 hour realm the first time through). Plus the low price point makes this an especially compelling purchase. With its console-perfect controls, great sound, superior graphic edge, and nonstop action, anyone who hasn't yet played RE4 should rush out and grab a copy now. However, for those who have already experienced this game's particular joys, there's nothing specific here to warrant a revisitation.

Die düstere Lady, die mich Ende 2005 mit ihrem verblüffend frischen Auftreten so begeistern konnte, fesselt mich auch auf Wii. Zwar kann Capcom die damals geniale und auch heute noch sehr gute Kulisse nicht mit einer extra Feinpolitur toppen, aber der Rest vom Horrorfest spielt sehr schnell seine drei Joker Gewalt, Dramatik und Nervenkitzel aus. FarCry: Vengeance? Call of Duty? Red Steel? Medal of Honor? Alles nichts Halbes und nichts Ganzes. Alles verblasst gegen diese blutige Lady, die auf Wii auch noch mit einer konfortableren Handhabung auftrumpfen kann - wer hätte das gedacht? Es gibt derzeit kein besseres Actionspiel für Nintendos junge Konsole.

The GCN original scored a 9.8 and the PS2 iteration and 9.5 in 2005. The Wii title is the best of the three, but it also arrives two years later, which is primarily why we've dropped the score. The fact is, while an amazing experience, RE4 does not push Wii in the same way it did GCN or PS2.

This is, by and far, the definitive version of Resident Evil 4. Even if one end up disliking the new Wii controls, this is the whole package. With the top-notch graphics seen on the GameCube version, the tweaks and extras from the PlayStation 2 iteration, and the wide variety of control offered by the Wii, Resident Evil 4 has never been better. If you've never played this game before, it's worth picking up, especially at the very forgiving budget price of $30. However, even for gamers who've already defeated the Los Illuminados on every available system, this game is still a fun addition to your Wii library, and perhaps the first game to make full use of the Wii's controller for gunplay. Both as a port and as a game, Resident Evil 4 Wii succeeds in almost every way, and the only disappointment is that Resident Evil 5 is still so far off.

In short, it's the biggest, by far the best looking, arguably the most enjoyable and least frustrating Resident Evil game we've played and it was worth every torturous minute to savour what will rightly become regarded as a true masterpiece of the horror genre. If you need to buy a GameCube to play it, then don't hesitate. Waiting a year for the almost certainly inferior PS2 port is not an option if you don't want to miss out on one of the games of 2005.

We're not sure how this is possible, but playing through Resident Evil 4 a second time is even more enjoyable than the initial run-through 10 months ago. It really is one of the best games Capcom has released in its long, glorious history. It's that simple. Its engaging premise, tense combat, gorgeous, varied environments, and some of the most terrifying boss encounters ever add up to something special - a true reinvention of the series, and one that deserves every superlative thrown its way. The fact that it's now being released on the PS2 (and therefore now available to the masses) makes us feel all warm inside. A game this exciting and this consistently entertaining deserves to be played by as many people as possible.

A GameCube-exclusive, Resident Evil 4 had been one of those games stuck in development for what seemed like an eternity. Despite the delays and concerns about the games exclusive status on Nintendos platform (don't worry, it will be released on the PlayStation 2 before the end of the year), Resident Evil 4 is a superb game that re-invents the tried-and-true mechanics of the series in important, innovative ways--plus, it's creepy as hell.

This game is great fun. I understand that each console has its graphical strengths (see God of War or PS2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on Xbox), but this game shouldn’t be running on my GameCube. It just seems…well, wrong. And wait until the boss encounters, which happen relatively early in the game. When you head down to that creaking dock and board your little dingy to set out over a mist-covered lake and you see ripples in the water that indicate something huge is down there, tell me you’re not enthralled. Tell me RE4 isn’t one of the best looking, best playing action/horror games ever. Tell me Capcom has lost their touch. Tell me this franchise is toast. Tell me you’re some PS2 or Xbox fan boy who won’t play the game because it’s on a kiddy system. Tell me. I dare you.

Long story short: if you own RE4 on the Cube or PS2, you may want to put some thought into it before buying this one. It's still the same RE4 we all love-it just has some new control mechanisms. If you've never owned the PS2 version, that may help your case to buy, as this features all of the nifty additions Cube owners never got. Still, at its price, it's hard to tell people not to buy this game, whether they've played it before or not. Buy it to own the superior version to one of the greatest games ever; buy it to experience a Wii port done right. Oh, and if you've never owned RE4 before, you have no excuse to not get this game-no shame in showing up to the party late, as long as you get there.

If you liked the previous Resident Evil storylines and gameplay you should be right at home here, as this is the pinnacle of the series' evolution. As good as it is though, it isn't perfect, which shows that the whole concept of a wholly linear 3rd person “horror” shooter wasn't all that great to begin with. I put horror in quotes because the game never actually scared me once, but if you're a squeamish pre-teen who can't watch Jurassic Park without wetting the bed this might not be an experience you'll enjoy. Still, those who have disdained previous Resident Evil games might want to check this out, as it embodies the best aspects of the series in one package, and for those who are already fans of the series, this is your Holy Grail.

Unfortunately, Resident Evil 4 (PC) fails to hit a higher score thanks to the flimsy keyboard controls. Once again, spare yourself the ordeal and do not attempt to play this one without a gamepad. Another negative aspect is that gamers who have already played through the entire game on the GameCube might not want to repeat the experience on the PC. After all, apart from the high-res options, there really aren't any obvious improvements over the game's console counterpart.

As yet another game in the set of the Resident Evil Chronicles, I have to say that the game did fairly well. I do know that some of other games produced as part of the same story have been flops (Code Veronica *cough**cough*) I was surprised to have this one play into my favor. The game was very successful in pulling the player into the story and making it a game that was very hard to put down. We all know that there aren't that many out for the Wii...Yet.

Aber mein ganz persönliches Wertungssystem beißt bei Schwächen halt gnadenlos zu: Eine so lieblose Konsolen-Umsetzung mit Matschgrafik habe ich nämlich schon lange nicht mehr erlebt. Umso peinlicher, da seit Erscheinen der Gamecube-Version ganze zwei Jahre ins Land gezogen sind. Schade drum: Mit angemessener Optik hätte Resident Evil 4 nämlich auch auf dem PC absolutes Hitpotenzial.

If you've never played this game before, you should first ask yourself, "Why not?" But if you haven't, there are better and cheaper options than this still-good-but-not-as-good-as-the-others version for Wii. And if you have played Resident Evil 4, in all its infested humans-who-are-not-quite-zombies mayhem, then there's still really not much reason to investigate what this version has to offer.

Unter anderem sorgt das Update für jede Menge simpler, jedoch wirkungsvoller Lichteffekte - das ist eindeutig die wichtigste Verbesserung. Auch der Nebel - ein zentrales Stilmittel in der Grusel-Ästhetik von Resident Evil 4 - wabert nun fast so schön wie in den Konsolenfassungen über den Bildschirm. Daher haben wir uns entschlossen, die Spielspaßwertung von Resident Evil 4 für den PC nach oben zu korrigieren: Ab sofort bewerten wir den Titel mit satten 83 Punkten!

Resident Evil 4 najlepiej odkryć w którejś z konsolowych wersji, jeśli jednak nie mamy do nich dostępu, konwersja na domowe komputery jest niezłym wyborem. Szkoda tylko, że odpowiedzialni za jej wykonanie nie przyłożyli się do tak ważnego elementu gry, jakim jest sterowanie. Jeśli jednak zacisnąć zęby i przyzwyczaić się do specyficznej obsługi, to Resident Evil 4 z nawiązką odpłaci za poniesiony wysiłek. Nie na darmo to najwyżej oceniany surival horror na konsole odchodzącej już generacji!

By this point in a review, with any other game sporting issues like this one has, we would be telling you to look elsewhere - and that is the most ironic part. RE4 is a 2 year old game, ported over from an outdated platform in a rather mediocre fashion, which has imbued it with numerous graphical and control problems that make it often ugly and virtually unplayable.

So how does all of this hold up? At minimum, RE4 for the Wii is a good example of what ports should be; not just a disc that works on the system, but with additional thought and game tweaking put into making the whole experience work properly on the system. Given everything that's gone into this edition, and the $30 bargain pricing, Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is a great game; on the other hand, if you own a copy of the PS2 version of the game, apart from the slightly better graphics, there's not really anything new to see. All the same, RE4 for the Wii is the definitive edition of the game to own.

Das Spiel an sich ist grandios, keine Frage. Die spannende Story, die geniale Atmosphäre und das motivierendes Gameplay wissen auch auf dem PC exzellent zu unterhalten. Eine Maus-Unterstützung gibt es nicht, weshalb ich eher widerwillig zum Gamepad greifen musste. Kritik ist auch in Sachen Optik angesagt, denn vor allem die schwache Beleuchtung trübt das Gesamtbild.

Yes, while the series may have left the moaning undead and their slow, shuffling movement behind in the move to RE4, there are certainly figurative traces of their presence in the quality of this port. It’s not bad, by any stretch of the imagination, but it is as if the game has simply lumbered onto PC, in search of fresh brains, instead of making full use of the system’s potential. Even so, if you don't have access to a GameCube or PS2, it's well worth checking out what all the fuss is about. RE4 stands as one of the great console action games, and now it's on PC.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is as brilliant here as it was when it first came out. Yet it still is a difficult game to recommend if you own either the PS2 or Gamecube version. Some new content would have made this a must-own, but as it stands, it’s simply nothing more than a simple port. You’ve already explored these evil realms, that deep, dark wood that coldly greets you when you begin. Exploring them with a different control scheme does not warrant a repurchase. Though if you’ve yet to feel the hair on the back of your neck stand up as you urgently try to hold off a legion of deranged villagers, then, by all means, pick up your WiiMote and head into that deep, dark wood.

The Resident Evil series has spawned a large range of merchandise including toys, collectibles, books and even a range of clothing inspired by Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4, the latest title in this well-known series, will launch in Europe on 18th March 2005. This game sees the return of Leon Kennedy, last seen in Resident Evil 2 and totally revolutionises the genre invented by its predecessors, with the addition of features like a point and shoot mechanic, allowing accurate aiming and a camera which follows, an action button to perform a series of explosive moves and completely new and never before seen enemies that are quicker, clever and more menacing than ever before.

Resident Evil 4 isn't perfect, but it's one hell of a ride and a very worthy addition to the series. The frustration with the controls can be forgiven whenever you think of moments like barricading yourself inside a cabin for the first time in an attempt to fend off an advancing mob. Playing with the location-based damage and reveling in the authentic animations and attention to detail also help. Resident Evil 4 is a must-buy for fans of the series and a great introduction for those who have never faced the evil.

For $50, this M-rated, GameCube exclusive proves few things are as much fun as being scared out of your wits.

I spent most of the first chapter grappling with Leon's limitations, but once I got used to things I was pretty hooked. I found a good chunk toward the later-middle part of the game to be a bit tedious at times, but the first two major settings were exciting and the action movie finale was gangbusters. Thematically, I'm a sucker for shotguns and zombies so I'm sure that helped, but really, the game is just solid. The still-stiff controls and Leon's dawdling movement keep it an acquired taste, but I'm inclined to recommend at least a rental even to those indifferent to survival-horror games as Resident Evil 4 is a pretty bold and remarkable step for the classic series.

Resident Evil 4 är lika bra nu som det var 2005. Nej, förlåt, det är grymt mycket bättre nu. För med wiimoten har du full kontroll över strider och förflyttningar. Det här spelet spelar inte ens i samma liga som de andra portningarna. Resident Evil 4 är det bästa Resident-spel jag spelat och det ännu bättre på Wii. Visst, grafiken är fortfarande tråkig, om än gjord med kärlek. Det är exakt samma story och det är ett gammalt spel, men det är enkelt att styra, ljudet är faktiskt betydligt bättre på denna version än på PS2-versionen och framförallt finns det inget roligare än att besegra elaka monsterfulingar med ett rejält wiimote-hugg i bröstkorgen.

De game die je nu speelt verschilt niet van het origineel dat je tweeënhalf jaar geleden misschien hebt gespeeld. Alleen de besturing met de Wii-mote voegt daadwerkelijk een bepaalde vorm van meerwaarde toe. Dat deze draai enorm goed uit de verf komt staat buiten kijf. Dit is zonder twijfel de beste versie van Resident Evil 4 tot nu toe, maar toch niet de best scorende. Door de ontbering van vernieuwing zijn veel aspecten in het huidige daglicht minder indrukwekkend, waardoor het totaalplaatje minder hoog scoort. Dat neemt niet weg dat het nog altijd een heerlijk horroravontuur is dat je zeker moet spelen als je de eerdere versies hebt gemist.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition could easily have been called the Ultimate Collector’s Edition. It has all the best features from the GameCube version, all the best updates from the PS2 edition and then features Wii controls to enhance it further. If you want the ultimate edition of the ultimate survival horror fest, you have come to the right place.

Smarter enemies make this terrifyingly tough, although you can torture them before killing them by aiming for the knees and shoulders.

There's a lot of gameplay to be had here, with close to 30 hours of high-quality action and a few good reasons to head back once you're done. It's a shame that the PC got shafted with such a lazy port. It's also hard not to wonder why Capcom and Ubisoft even bothered with it. The PS2 version is unchanged in the sloppy transition to PC, so if you have no other way of experiencing Resident Evil 4 and own a gamepad, the core gameplay and budget price are enough reason to pick it up. Otherwise, pick up a different version and hope that the developers show a little more respect for the platform next time around.

While there are a substantial amount of complaints in this review about graphics, the game still plays very well. The puzzle mechanics work smoothly, environments are introduced in skillful fashion, and the fighting is always interesting and low on frustration factor, aside from the aim-to-shoot mechanic in close quarters combat. If you don't have a PS2 or GameCube lying around, you really should play this game, and to do so you really need a gamepad. The game's got five extra missions where you play as Ada Wong, some new weapons and costumes, and a 20 dollar price tag. If you can get past the graphics and input calamities, it's not hard to enjoy.

This is Metal Gear Solid meets Resident Evil with a bit of Metroid Prime thrown in, and the results are predictably spectacular. From a Christian perspective, there are elements to this game that are unavoidably troublesome. As a 27 year-old Christian man, I struggled some as to whether or not to purchase a game with this level of gratuitous gore and violence, to say nothing of the disturbing creatures and images that permeate the game. Circumstances, however, allowed me to borrow the game from someone else and play it through. Even now I have seriously mixed emotions about whether or not I would be willing to buy this game for my own library. Resident Evil 4 is definitely a game that is better-suited for an adult audience? and even some older Christian gamers may also find this game to be more than they?re comfortable with. Those who are uncertain about whether or not to get it might want to rent it first.

I guess Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition serves its purpose as a port of the classic game, but those who experience the GameCube version will find themselves wondering what the point of this is (to make more money, silly rabbit!).

Die PC-Version des Horror-Schockers bietet leider nur eine abgespeckte Optik der GameCube- und PS2-Vorlage! Atmospährisch wichtige Licht-und-Schatten-Effekte fehlen, wodurch ein Großteil der Gruselstimmung flöten geht. Zudem funktioniert auch die Bedienung am PC nur mit einem Gamepad gut. Da ist es nur ein schwacher Trost, dass die PC-Fassung eine zusätzliche Episode enthält.

Da ich weder einen Gamecube noch eine Playstation 2 besitze, war ich heilfroh, dass es ein brillantes Spiel wie Resident Evil 4 auf den PC geschafft hat. Doch die Umsetzung ist derart miserabel, dass ich heulen könnte. Wie es optimal läuft, hat Jade Empire gezeigt: bessere Grafik, angepasste Steuerung, neue Waffen und Gegner. All das gibt's im PC-Resident-Evil nicht. Ja, es ist ein gutes Spiel, das in Sachen Atmosphäre und Geschichte so manchen Genrevertreter in die Tonne tritt. Aber wer das erleben will, sollte unbedingt zur Konsolenvariante greifen. Die gibt's nämlich auch schon zum Budgetpreis.

Har du inte spelar Resident Evil 4 tidigare kan du med gott samvete plocka upp den här versionen och se fram emot ett fantastiskt äventyr vars atmosfär är lika fet som som handlingen töntig. Alla andra kan med lika gott samvete låta bli.

Since it's only £25, you might as well take a punt if you haven't already played it. It's just a shame that one of the best ever action games has become another casualty of the Wii controller. Indeed, for a controller that was supposed to herald a new dawn of inclusive gaming there are a lot of third-party publishers who have yet to get their heads round it. Presumably, when they decided to create a Wii version of Resident Evil 4, Capcom envisaged an even more inclusive version of the best ever action game. What they got is a game that now looks dated, and plays exactly the same but with worse controls. Not exactly a new dawn.

PC gamers who don't own a PlayStation 2 or GameCube can now finally experience Resident Evil 4 but it doesn't quite feel like the same game. This could have been the ultimate version and a great way to replay the adventure before Capcom wows us all again with Resident Evil 5. Sadly, it's a game that should be your last port of call if you're after some Resident Evil 4 action. It's a simple port of a console game and as such is best played on a console.

Après une version GameCube irréprochable et une adaptation du même niveau sur le monolithe noir de Sony, la mouture PC a de quoi faire pitié. Certes, on y retrouve le contenu de la version PS2, certes, le jeu est vendu à 30 euros mais cela ne rattrape en rien la médiocrité de cette nouvelle itération "PCesque" de Capcom. Blotti entre des graphismes ne rendant jamais hommage à l'oeuvre originelle, une localisation catastrophique synonyme de nombreux bugs et un gameplay requérant obligatoirement un gamepad pour être plus ou moins apprécié, Resident Evil 4 fait figure de reliquat de luxe, de scorie diamantine. Sombre fin de vie que celle d'un titre qui aura marqué des millions de joueurs en redéfinissant le genre du survival-horror.

Resident Evil 4 till PC är ett genomarbetat trevligt konsolspel, det är bara det att det stannar just där. Det är ett roligt, välgjort spel, bra ljud, hyfsad story, läckra fiender men tyvärr finns det inget superfräscht nytt som gör att man ska köpa PC-versionen om man redan äger en konsolvariant, särskilt inte som det inte finns någon musstyrning i den förstnämnda. Kort sagt, Resident Evil 4 till PC är en av de, kontrollmässigt, sämsta portningarna jag sett, men i övrigt är spelet en dröm lika våt som Vättern om våren.

En perte de vitesse depuis le troisième épisode, dépassé par une concurrence (Silent Hill, Parasite Eve) capable de faire mieux avec les mêmes recettes, la série phare de Capcom sut cependant révolutionner le genre avec son quatrième épisode. En remettant totalement en question ce que l’on croyait établi dans le genre. Deux ans plus tard, voici enfin la version PC. Faut-il accueillir l’évènement avec suspicion, sachant que les survival horror n’ont que très rarement bénéficié d’un portage PC ? Ou au contraire espérer que le titre de Capcom saura aussi changer la donne sur ce plan et montrer que ce genre a aussi sa place sur nos machines ?

4 ist leider nicht wirklich gelungen. Fans von Horror-Survival Spielen werden zwar durch die immer noch düstere und spannende Story Spaß haben können, aber dafür sollte auch ein Gamepad vorhanden sein. Ansonsten wird man einen kleinen weiteren Kampf erleben, den mit der Steuerung. Wer bei dem Punkt Grafik Höchstleistung erwartet, wie sie auf dem GameCube gezeigt wurde, ist aber leider falsch. Denn diese ist einfach fade und macht aktuellen PCs

C'est à croire que les équipes PC chez Capcom se sont donné un concours secret de la plus mauvaise adaptation. Celle de Resident Evil 4 a fait quelques progrès – il y a moyen de quitter le jeu sans faire Alt+F4, wouhou ! – mais tout le reste est une gigantesque blague. Alors, soit vous êtes un joueur PC pur et dur et vous n'y trouverez aucun intérêt, soit vous touchez de temps en temps à une console et vous y avez déjà joué. Dans tous les cas, vous économiserez 30 euros, soit quasiment 6 mois d'abonnement à Canard PC. N'oubliez pas le guide !
