If you're one of the Resident Evil faithful that fell to the wayside during its Dreamcast fling, rejoice! The mothership has returned home, and it's time to once more nearly crap your pants.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica is one of the highest quality titles you can get for your Dreamcast to date, and it is certainly the best in this ongoing series of survival-horror from Capcom. Everyone loves to be scared and this is the game to deliver countless nights of horrifying fun. The violence and gore is probably a bit much for the younger crowds (under 12) unless you want them sleeping with you after playing. Even so, don't be surprised if you find yourself sleeping with the lights on after a few terrifying nights tagging along with Claire, Steve, and Chris.

Returning to its roots, the finest chapter within the immensely popular Resident Evil franchise is now available on a PlayStation console. While a simple port would have been more than sufficient, Capcom and executive producer Shinji Mikami have enhanced the project through the implementation of additional footage. Moreover, Capcom has also included a lengthy playable demo of Mikami’s next project, Devil May Cry.

Luckily, some people were never able to play the scariest in the series. Me, being one of them, am having a blast. This game's out there for those of you who have never played the Dreamcast version, or for those of you looking to play the new Devil May Cry demo; which happens to be quite a fun time. Either way, survival/horror fans of the RE series should definitely give this title a try. And if you really are intending on giving the game a try, be sure to stock up on a couple packages of light bulbs while you're at it. Frankly, I have never been as scared from a Resident Evil title before.

In the end those who've patiently waited for a PS2 Resident Evil title can rejoice with Code Veronica X, as a stand alone director's-cut the game is great, as a total package, which includes the Devil May Cry demo, this baby is worth every penny. Resident Evil Code: Veronica may not have the best PS2 visuals around but the package is pretty overall, the gameplay can get complex at times and may deem to be frustrating but nonetheless this challenge ads to the value of the game. The PS2 version also features 10 extra minutes of never before seen CG footage such as an all new intro, and even though the controls are the same as they've been forever, RE fans will over look the flaw and enjoy Resident Evil Code: Veronica X.

If you love Resident Evil and, for some reason, have no other access to Code: Veronica, then here's a perfectly functional, if somewhat overpriced, version of it. Considering nothing has been added or upgraded in this extremely plain conversion, the game's $40 price tag is quite hard to justify. Yeah, Code: Veronica was pretty amazing at the beginning of 2000, but times have changed and this game hasn't. It's a good enough port, which is to say that it's no worse than the Dreamcast version, but after all this time, that really isn't enough to warrant a purchase.

There’s no question that RE: Code Veronica is a dated title. The third release of the game is just a port and only for people who have never played it. All others need not apply.

This isn't to say it's painful to play through CVX on GameCube, I was pleased to revisit the game. However, especially after playing the REmake and RE0, CVX's faults are all the more apparent. Some may wonder why, if it's the same game as the PS2, why it isn't getting the same score. The experience just isn't the same -- it's not as powerful. Due the technological barrier, this isn't the game that blew me away on the Dreamcast -- just a shadow.
