I would even go so far as to venture that had Capcom made more strides over the years along the lines of Dead Aim, the public might have put the Resident Evil series in that higher Echelon of titles that aren't afraid to take chances and inspire our imaginations. Instead of being a series savior, Dead Aim is more like Pete Rose finally admitting he bet on baseball. Too little. Too late.

The last time Capcom attempted a first-person Resident Evil game (Survivor, PS1), it was a complete disaster. What seemed like a cool concept was marred by poor graphics, shallow gameplay, and no light gun support. Well, apparently Capcom learned a few lessons from Survivor, because Dead Aim is a huge improvement. It's an exciting, highly visceral shooter that's hard to put down.

Worth Playing
On the other hand, you might want to keep in mind that I play way too many of these games, and as such, am moderately sensitive to their flaws. This is probably the best zombie-oriented shooter around, at least until someone gets the bright idea to create a horror-oriented FPS using the Soldier of Fortune engine (gore zones + zombies = HAPPY). If you're thinking about picking this game up, but the similarities to the original Survivor are holding you back, relax. It's an entirely different animal, and it's a worthwhile investment of your time. Dead Aim's not a long or challenging game, though, and so it might be best played as a rental.

Personally, I have fun with the Gun Survivor series. I like the freedom of being able to move my character around combined with the light gun shooting. I am also a fan of Resident Evil. For anyone else, though, it’s not a very deep game. The controls are clunky, the graphics are below average, and the story is plain. The best things about Dead Aim are its concept and entertainment factor. Combining Resident Evil’s exploration with light gun action makes for some fun, mindless zombie killin’.

Dead Aim is a very cool combination of gameplay elements, and the most intriguing light-gun title for a home console since Elemental Gearbolt (anyone remember that one?) It suffers from such a limited lifespan that only hardcore collectors and RE maniacs would be advised to purchase the game instead of making it a Blockbuster night. But hey, at least it's a much more entertaining rental than Just Married.

Unlike earlier RE-based shooters, Dead Aim will feel familiar in gameplay to the main Resident Evil series. A marked improvement!

Resident Evil: Dead Aim deserves a mention as one of the best titles in the small PS2 light gun software library. Remaining physcially playable while instilling a little fear in a gamer's heart is an achievement in itself; overall, Dead Aim not only carries sufficient weight of story and suspense but also makes good what was a dreadful start to the PS2 Survivor series and adds value to the G-con 2 as a PS2 accessory.

IGN
In the end, Resident Evil: Dead Aim did something we didn't expect -- it made us want to play it until we beat it (a feat that previous Gun Survivor versions made us cringe over). And though our experience with game wasn't as consistent at some of the other titles in the genre, its efforts at being different, its high production values, and legitimately entertaining mini-moments deserve a little recognition in what has otherwise been a history of negativity.

GameSpot
All told, Resident Evil: Dead Aim is only three or four hours long, which is pretty good for a light-gun game, but the length, combined with the nontraditional game mechanics, will likely leave many Resident Evil fans unsatisfied. Light-gun fans may be more accepting of what Dead Aim has to offer, if only because it provides distinctly different light-gun experience. It's not the best Resident Evil game, and it isn't a stellar light-gun game, but Dead Aim creates an interesting, unique hybrid of the two, and that is a commendable feat.

Game Informer Magazine
Dead Aim transcends genre definition with a unique gameplay amalgamation that combines the third-person action and rich exploration aspects of Resident Evil with the traditional arcade-styled light gun shooting of The House of the Dead. This obscure video game brew not only sounds like a garbled mess, it plays like one as well.
