The Review Busters
I honestly cannot find much wrong with Resistance 2. It's one of the few games that have shown up recently that actually feel completed on day one. I wish I could tell you all more about the single player and competitive multiplayer modes, but I've been playing co-op pretty much any time I have the game turned on. If you own a PS3 for something other than watching movies, then this is a must buy game. If you're a fan of first person shooters and you can't find something to like about this game, then there is something wrong with you.
G4 TV: X-Play
All in all, Resistance 2 is a major improvement over the original in every way. It is an awesome experience of seeing a team of developers at the top of their game and pulling out all the stops. There’s something magnificent in the campaign’s execution, a wholesale devotion to having a lot of fun.
There is no doubt that Resistance 2 is the game that I hoped it would be, not only is the single player campaign quite stunning, but when combined with not one but two excellent multiplayer modes it also packs in a whole lot of gameplay onto one disc. The sheer size of some of the enemies you will encounter will leave you astounded and may very well have you clamoring for more. Resistance 2 is definitely a must buy for anyone who owns a Playstation 3 console, of that there is no doubt.
Resistance 2 is a fantastic game. It’s one of the best shooters available on the PlayStation 3 and one of the console’s strongest exclusives. It does what a sequel was meant to do: improve on the original and make it bigger. The singleplayer campaign and multiplayer modes are great, but when you add in the excellent cooperative campaign to the mix you truly have one of the best games available.
Cheat Code Central
There's a lot more I could say about Resistance 2, but to get too in-depth into story tropes about the Cloven and ramble on about just how great this game is would do the title a disservice. It's something you'll simply have to experience for yourself. This is a must-buy in every sense of the phrase; entertainment that truly sets the bar for the FPS genre both on the PS3 and for gaming in general.
Resistance 2 is a sweeping, grand epic of a masterpiece issued in staccato bursts of ceaselessly entertaining action, which ultimately provide the gamer with a wonderfully paced and satisfying adventure. It’s a must for any PS3 owner, and continues the 2008 trend of unbelievably accomplished PS3 exclusives. Get it, and get it now.
Resistance 2 is one of those games that manages to expand on its predecessor in every way. The single player is epic in scope and in story, which is practically worth the price of admission by itself. Then you throw in the extremely engaging co-op and competitive play, which expands on replayability in just about every way possible. Toss in a generous number of unlockables, Trophies and community support, and you've got a phenomenal experience. This is an exclusive that PS3 owners should be proud to have in their collection.
Resistance 2 is a great sequel. For me, the biggest draw has always been the single player campaign, and although it's shorter and has a few drawbacks, the overall experience was an awful lot of fun. I actually beat the game in just two extended sittings because it was so much fun it was hard to reach a stopping point, I just kept wanting to push on. I've spent just a few hours online thus far, mostly in cooperative mode, and it's been great – no connection problems or latency, and the community is huge. You'll get the most out of Resistance 2 if you're familiar with the original Resistance, but even if you haven't played the original, Resistance 2 gives you plenty of reason to make the purchase.
Resistance 2 does a fantastic job of improving on the original game, and is one of the best shooters available for the PS3. The single player campaign is an absolute blast, and the incredible multiplayer modes will keep you playing for months. The bottom line, if you own a PS3, you need to own this game.
When taken as a whole, Resistance2 comes exceptionally close to attaining gaming perfection. Only minor graphical shortcomings and a weak story hold back this title from an even higher score. As it stands, though, this is a title that every PS3 owner should play, as its strengths utterly dwarf its weaknesses, and we ultimately emerge with the very definition of what makes a great game. The world needs you to step up and save us from the Chimera scourge; this is a call to arms that you should happily accept.
More than that though, the Resistance series has arguably proven to be a steadfast rock for hardcore Sony gamers to lean upon in a ho-hum market filled with me-toos and exclusive franchises on competing platforms. In a sea awash with shooter generica, Resistance 2 is a life-raft.
So there we have it. Insomniac – one of the best small companies to work for in the USA, mind you – have pulled off one of the more ambitious games in recent years. Resistance 2 fulfils it’s predecessors potential not only with a solid single player campaign, but also introduces hours of replayability with its accessible and innovative online modes. Check out www.myresistance.net to tie it all together in a Resistance social networking site, and you can expect that Resistance 2 is going to be around for a long time. A long long time. Buy a PS3 for it? I would.
However, if you enjoyed Fall of Man or are just a fan of sci-fi action games, you’ll want to add this one to your collection. Not many gamers will actually get the advertised 400+ hours of life out of it, but the solo, co-op, and competitive multiplayer options should keep R2 spinning in your PS3 well past the holiday season, and probably until Killzone 2 arrives.
Gamers' Temple, The
Resistance was one of the first shooters available on the PS3, and now its sequel is one of the best. Viva la Resistance Deux!

Resistance 2 is a great game overall. With sharp visuals, great audio, epic scale, and incredible multi-player, this is a game worth your money. You will find hours of entertainment in both the single player campaign and especially the multiplayer. Insomniac has once more demonstrated why they are one of the top developers in the business. You owe it to yourself to pick this title up now.
That said, Resistance 2 delivers a value-packed experience which is on par with last year’s Orange Box. This isn’t just a single massive game we’re talking about either. Rather, it’s three wholly independent yet interconnected games which together form one of the best reasons to own a PS3 this year.
Resistance 2 has become an excellent sequel that may even call itself the Gears of War for the Playstation3. The intense single player campaign, the super-addictive co-op mode and the competitive online part that's playable with 60 people make Resistance 3 games in 1! Playstation3 has one top game more and you shouldn't leave this one out of your collection
If I were to grade Resistance 2 solely based on the single player campaign, it would score below the original. Knowing that Insomniac likely spent a large portion of their time and budget in creating the deep and addictive online experience almost does balance it out. Taken as a whole, Resistance 2 offers many hours worth of gameplay and is probably one of the best overall FPS titles of the Holiday season.
Resistance 2 offers more than the first game on all fronts. A better-designed single-player experience, more online mayhem with almost unthinkable amounts of player support, and a unique co-op mode make it easy to recommend. It's a little derivative, but it's an incredible value and a top quality production. Hopefully the next Resistance will be a revolution.
Lens of Truth
Resistance 2 is a game well worth its $60 price tag. It’s one of the best shooters available on the PlayStation 3 and one of the console’s strongest exclusives. It does what a sequel is almost universally meant to do; improve on the original and make it bigger, prettier, and, generally, more fun to play. The single player campaign and multiplayer modes more than hold their own, but the excellent, “icing-on-the-cake” 8 player cooperative campaign augments the value of Resistance 2 considerably, easily making it one of the best games available on the market.
Without a doubt, Resistance 2 is as good as shooters get. There are a few rough patches, mainly with the story, but once you get into the game, it becomes something of a non-issue. Resistance was the game everyone who bought a PS3 at launch needed to buy, and the same applies for the sequel.
Resistance 2 is a game that is going to do well. It's one of the biggest titles for the Playstation this year and will hopefully see massive sales over the holiday season. With its huge package of single player and both competitive and co-operation multiplayer modes, there's a lot to play and enjoy. With a huge multiplayer community already and the release of this sequel looking like an expansion of the community, Resistance 2 looks to set the PSN on fire. It's not the most loyal sequel we could have hoped for, but it's far from awful.

Kaufen!
The game, though, is a tense thriller that will immerse players into that sense of desperation as the remains of the human race fight for survival against increasingly overwhelming odds. The pacing is frenetic, the sense of urgency comes through loud and clear. Resistance 2 is a solid game, that looks stunning, but the game’s length and the linearity of the levels might prove to be a little much for some players.
Once again, Insomniac promises and it delivers. Although its campaign has some plot twists that are mind-boggling, and there's no pretense that the ending is a bonafide cliffhanger, it's engaging, even if the narrative fails to explain some of the big story hooks. Competitive multiplayer is bigger and more brutal than its predecessor. Most importantly, co-op multiplayer is an absolute joy to play. Ultimately, however, it's the role-playing elements, such as experience points, that really enrich the experience. It's an FPS that accomplishes the rare feat of being both rock-hard and rewarding. There's still room for a few surprises, but right now, there aren't many shooters this year that can stand up to Resistance 2.
Overall, multiplayer is the satisfying other half to a formidable package, and Resistance 2 is precisely the sort of exclusive game that the PS3 needs. Improving tenfold on its predecessor in almost every area, it not only belongs on the shopping list of existing Resistance fans, but those who were underwhelmed with the original will also want to check it out, and then fight for it on the internet. It's the way of the warrior.
All in all, Resistance 2 is an excellent game. The stirring scale of the single-player levels is impressive and the pervasive details make them truly awesome. Despite the squandered story, blasting your way through the campaign is electrifying, thanks largely to the deadly weapons in your arsenal. The cooperative multiplayer is a resounding success, and the competitive modes are terrific in their own right. Anyone looking for a superb shooter experience need look no further than Resistance 2.
Resistance 2 is certainly good value for money. If you’re online, you’ll get a year’s worth of gaming out of it no worries at all, while there is enough there to offer single players solid entertainment too. There’s nothing particularly elegant or genius about the way the game has been developed: it is just a straight-up action shooter that hangs its hopes on a cool story idea and a wicked arsenal. The action is too generic to throw the types of haymakers needed to compete with the big boys, but it is not shy of unleashing a barrage of punishing jabs and, every now and again, a killer right hook. Definitely check it out.
Resistance 2 is an excellent game with fantastic art direction, but there is no longer that special hint of something greater. Without that golden touch, Resistance 2 plays like an accomplished shooter in which you progress through a straightforward campaign with fellow grunting tough guys in a battle against an impossible foe. There is no passing it up, this is true, I just can't help but hold Insomniac to the highest standard and in the end the only thing keeping Resistance from being a perfect 10 is the sense that it has moved too much toward the expected.
With Resistance 2, Insomniac Games has shown they are a developer that can command any genre they want. Resistance 2 is perfect example of epic storytelling at its finest. It innovates the FPS genre with a unique twist on co-op modes and large scale, and its 60 person fragfests breathe excitement into the title. It does fall into some conventional FPS trappings, like linear level design, but you can't fault the game too much because the entire experience from front to cover is so polished, you can practically see your reflection when you look at it. Resistance 2 is one of the finest titles on the PS3 this year and carries the Resistance with a giant step forward.
Middle East Gamers (MEgamers)
Insomniac really did put an effort into making an effective fun game, yet keeping it simple. Balancing something like that is not always an easy task.
If the first Resistance was a taste of what Insomniac had to offer PS3 owners, then Resistance 2 is the main course. Sony fans now have a defining first-person shooter franchise that even in a crowded gaming season is a must own. The graphics are solid, the game plays incredibly well, and the story is reminiscent of the best summer action flicks. Add in robust online options and you have a title that belongs in anyone’s library. It’ll be interesting to see where Insomniac goes from here, but I can tell you without a doubt you won’t want to miss it.
Resistance 2 is a game that takes everything the original title did, expands on it, and makes it a truly enjoyable experience. The visuals and sound are truly a step up and the gameplay has been tweaked to the max. The single player experience is more refined, more challenging, and provides a pretty good story. The online multiplayer provides some great cooperative play and some very addicting adversarial matches, including 60 player battles. Some gamers may actually be turned off by the challenge this game presents, but overall Resistance 2 is a great successor to the original launch title and PS3 owners should not go without it.
Lt. Hale’s sophomore journey into enemy territory is a more than worthy successor to Fall of Man. It certainly won’t win many points for originality, borrowing heavily from other established shooters and even its fair share of movies. Despite its shortcomings, Resistance 2 remains one of the most complete shooter packages on the Playstation 3. There is always something waiting to be killed, no matter which mode you choose to do it in. The only real question left is whether or not you can resist the Chimeran infection.
When it comes down to it, Resistance 2 is bigger, faster, and just plain better than the original - and the original was quite good. It may have its shortcomings, but the sheer enormity of everything that is offered on the disc overshadows the game's minor slip-ups. From its onset, Resistance 2 throws you into a maelstrom of adrenaline-inducing action that never lets up. While it's unfortunate that the single player campaign is so brief, it simply doesn't matter in a package that will, ultimately, last as long as you want it to. Resistance 2 may not make any huge, innovative strides in advancing the first-person shooter genre, but it doesn't need to. It is a big game, with big guns, big monsters, and carries with it a big possibility to leave a lasting impression. Simply put, if you own a PlayStation 3 and don't own this game, you're losing out.
Resistance 2 improves on an already great title with a fun campaign and competitive multiplayer and fantastic cooperative play. The graphics are completely overhauled with more of an abundance of colors and varied environments, and the Chimera have brought their A game this time with enormous monsters for us to kill. It does have a few problems with its difficulty in spots, but more than makes up for it in the long run. A great game that makes up for any small problems, and ends up being one of the best shooters of the current generation
Whilst playing Resistance 2 I found myself wondering how on God's earth Insomniac has managed to create two games that are such polar opposites (Resistance and Ratchet & Clank) yet share many of the same qualities. Admirably though, they have and not only that but they've finally produced the PS3's answer to Halo 3. Consequently, Resistance 2 is the most fun I've had on my PS3 since Metal Gear Solid 4 - and you can't give a much better endorsement than that.
Resistance 2 is about the spectacle and variety of modes and in that, Insomniac Games has met the sequel criteria with a passing grade. Single player gameplay issues are mostly forgotten when jumping into the 8-player cooperative mode with Chimera by the dozens rushing forward at a relentless pace or the more impressive and technologically mind-boggling feat of 60-player mayhem not for the faint of heart.
It seems like for the first time in Insomniac’s history, they made a game that feels like it didn’t quite live up to the potential, so maybe that the yearly schedule left them with so much to work on, that they couldn’t give every mode the attention that it deserved. The Resistance 2 that Insomniac did release is still a great game that is a lot of fun to play, but there is just enough here that is somewhat lacking that could’ve helped the campaign and competitive modes reach their potential. The latter can be touched up with DLC in the coming months while the former is what it is, a good single-player campaign. The Co-op mode is absolutely what makes this game stand out above the rest with its unique and rewarding gameplay that we definitely recommend to anyone that loves co-op in their games. Don’t resist this game for another minute.
The scale of battle both online and off is impressive, but the single-player experience still suffers from some tedious last-gen issues, from cheap deaths to linear levels.
As PlayStation 3 exclusives go, Resistance 2 is up there with the best presently on offer, a thoughtfully crafted, highly polished action game that almost reaches the benchmarks set by the very best titles of the genre. Where it fails, it is very difficult to criticise, simply because the premise offers little room for Insomniac to really shake things up. Number two represents a leap over the original Resistance, and although some may bemoan the lack of a main campaign co-op option, some of the multiplayer choices implemented instead are bold and highly enjoyable. More over, a few of the action set-pieces, especially those involving the really big enemies are spectacles you'll take with you once the console is switched-off. Halo survives unflustered then, but the Chimeran march continues to gain ground gradually.
it’s the game they wanted to make rather than the game made for expectations. One thing’s for sure – whereas the first Resistance was a poster boy for “launchitis”, Resistance 2 can actually be seen as a strong competitor for Gears of War 2, especially in the multiplayer. 8.5/10 from me.
PAL Gaming Network (PALGN)
Resistance 2 is a rock-solid sequel and does everything required of a shooter in an extremely capable fashion. It may not be the most technically adept or memorable piece of software, but it remains consistently enjoyable for the months of gameplay it provides.
Video Games Daily
Get over the slight awkwardness of these conjunctions, however, and there's a lot to love. Bullet by bullet, Resistance 2 can teach Halo 3 little about dynamic action and balance, nor does it rival Gears of War for cinematic integrity. But it offers enough variety and subtlety to stand out in an exceptionally crowded field of action game releases, and few titles indeed pack such value for money - there are, if you're determined, hundreds of hours' enjoyment to be had here. In short, it's a tribute to its heritage and the PlayStation 3's finest contribution to the art of first-person gunnery so far.
In fact, that’s the best way to describe Resistance 2: polished. With the exception of some shaky network issues, Resistance 2 is incredibly refined. The gameplay, visuals, and features all scream high production values, and more importantly, great execution. With the risk of being entirely cliché in mind, you shouldn’t resist the urge to pick this one up.
Game Informer Magazine
Resistance 2 is one of this year’s standout first-person shooters, but its single-player campaign ultimately isn’t as satisfying as this title’s stellar multiplayer modes. To be fair, many of the concessions the team made to the single-player campaign also lead to this game’s addictive multiplayer experience. For multiplayer fans, Resistance 2 delivers everything you could want from a game, but the single-player experience sadly falls short of expectations.
The Video Game Critic
A split-screen coop would have completed the package, but I can't deny that Resistance 2 is a quality sequel.
Know this, Resistance did bring some cool things this time around and the game is bigger as the sense of "grandeur" is really present during certain battles but it feels more like gravy than actual part of the whole experience. I don’t see how a PS3 user can’t have this game in his collection but if you were a huge fan of the first, you might have issues with this sequel.
That's the main disappointment, if any, behind Resistance 2. It's a clear "we're improving upon our predecessor" type of title, and it succeeds on that front. If you're really picky, you can quibble about certain aspects -- not as many cool visual effects as you'd hope for in a modern shooter (while stuff like depth-of-field, motion blur, etc. are present, they feel somewhat underutilized) or occasional slowdown (mostly when respawning after an active firefight), to name two. But, overall, Resistance 2 is an extremely well-assembled FPS, with an improved campaign, fun competitive multiplayer, and a damn neat take on co-op. I wouldn't go as far as to say this is the definitive PS3 game, but it's certainly one of the best PS3 exclusives I've played. Plus, I gotta give props to a game that loves giant monsters as much as I do.
Resistance 2 tries to be both an intimate date and an enormous, chaotic festival. That it succeeds at the wild party and fails at the more sober date is no great loss. Those of you who are only interested in multiplayer will find much love to be had in this grand orgy of a game.
Though it’s certainly a competent package, the overall feeling engendered by Resistance 2 is underwhelming. For every breathless set-piece that powers the single-player campaign, there’s another moment not far behind that peddles mediocrity, and every glorious vista is offset by sometimes derivative play. Ultimately the myriad multiplayer options atone for the patchy single player to ensure it’s a worthy purchase, but one that’s not quite essential.
Resistance 2 is packed full of content to keep PS3 gamers entertained until the next big shooter. A strong and engrossing single-player campaign compliments the huge array of online options, and despite some frustrating moments, Resistance 2 is truly worth a purchase for any shooter fan.
If you own a PS3 then there's no doubt that you should pick up Resistance 2. It's a solid FPS, with moments of brilliance and some top notch multiplayer modes. It isn't the system seller it could have been though. The campaign is the biggest offender, switching between mediocre and spectacular far too regularly, as does the presentation. The storyline and characters once again fall flat, with Insomniac failing to build anything to really care about into a sci-fi premise that has an awful lot of potential. There's plenty here to work with; we just hope Insomniac finally puts all the pieces together for the inevitable third game.
So there you have it. Resistance 2 has a rubbish single-player campaign, which left me angry and confused. The lack of coherent storytelling is my biggest issue, but there's really nothing wrong with the overall gameplay. I am still of the opinion that the rest of the package makes it one of the best multiplayer shooters currently out for the PlayStation 3. Though my experience with the co-op definitely varied depending on the group I was with, it never ceased being entertaining. On top of that, the leveling seems to come slowly, but just quickly enough to keep you coming back for more. This game does not stand out for its single-player content, but those interested in sinking hours and hours into a unique and rewarding multiplayer shooter experience will find Resistance 2 well worth their money.
Because of the multiplayer modes, as well as the enjoyable single player campaign, Resistance 2 is best described as a great first person shooter and a worthy sequel. Insomniac missed an opportunity to give Nathan Hale a pulse, and for multiplatform gamers, Co-op is nowhere near as cool as Gears of War 2's Horde mode, but don't let this game's shortcomings prevent you from experiencing one of the year's best shooters.
Bigger, badder and better than the first, Resistance 2 improves upon the formula set by its predecessor in almost every way. Unfortunately, a handful of minor issues, such as less than stellar graphics, keep this game from reaching the high bar set by competing titles like Call of Duty 4 and Gears of War 2. Still, with its interesting single-player campaign and robust online component, Resistance 2 has plenty to offer any PS3 owner looking for a quick and easy shooter fix.
Computer and Video Games (CVG)
Resistance 2 packs some pretty spectacular scenes, but for the most part is pretty average. As we've said its efforts in multiplayer earn it that extra point, but if you've played any of the aforementioned modes, there's nothing here that will surprise you. Not groundbreaking then, but solid and well worth a look.
Resistance 2 fights against its ultimately failing single player campaign to remain a viable purchase for gamers looking for a quality shooter. Resistance 2's fantastic frag-fantastic online modes, extra co-op mode really help pull the generic oversized story out of the gutter. It seems like Insomniac is overcompensating for something... you don’t need huge monsters to make a game feel epic, or larger than life. Sure, Resistance 2 can be a little shallow, but it has enough memorable moments to make it worth a look. If you’re not looking to go online, I say rent this one first and see what Nathan Hale can do for your trigger finger. On the other side, if Warhawk and Socom don’t have you hooked online and you want a fast paced online shooter with a lot of old school flavour, Resistance 2 is one the top of the charts.
And we’ve been saying lately with games like Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge and the like, they have an ok idea and you keep waiting for them to go nuts with it but they don’t take it far enough. Resistance is not a game that wastes potential. When it swarms you, it SWARMS you. When they give you a chain gun, it’s heavy duty. And when it comes to multiplayer, they don’t back down there either. Insomniac, you’ve outdone yourselves. 7.5 from me.
The A.V. Club
You can't argue with Resistance 2's robust feature set. But the once-relatable, ragtag protagonist Nathan Hale has been transformed into a generic square-jawed action hero, the kind who's been the subject of satire since 1991's Duke Nukem. Clearly Nathan isn't just battling the Chimeran virus; he's also suffering from a severe case of John McClane-itis.
Resistance 2 is a great shooter with outstanding multiplayer components that transcend its lackluster single player campaign. The campaign’s scale and the ingenuity displayed in the boss fights will give players an experience they have never had before, but it ultimately collapses on itself with poor design and execution in both level and story progression.
The inventive cooperative play is the reason you should pick up Resistance 2. Running through the single player campaign will net you a good story, even if you have to waddle through some lackluster sections. Competitive multiplayer delivers some good gaming, although the high player counts can be overwhelming. It's a colorful game, though, and for everything it offers it’s a great value even with its faults.
