Return Fire

Overall, Return Fire is a phenomenal game and the first title this year to receive a score of "10" from VideoGames. This game is absolutely begging for a sequel with more new vehicles, weapons and scenarios. This may be the so-called "killer app" that the 3DO platform needs to convince those holding out for a 32-bit system. It sold a few friends of mine.

The bloodbath battle barrage known as Return Fire proves that war can also be heaven. This is one of the best Playstation games of the year.

Fledgling 3DO developer Prolific Software shows that it's passed programming bootcamp. This stunning combat simulator displays a great sense of history - and humor.

As a one-player game against the computer it wears thin after a while, but the split screen two-player mode is a party game from hell! You have no idea what a ruckus this game caused in the office! Destroy, destroy, destroy!

If you own a 3DO then you probably already own this game. If you have a 3do, but DON'T have this game, then you wasted your money.

At first I found Return Fire extremely fun as I zipped around blowing up everything in sight to perfectly matched classical tunes. However, after going this far an extended amount of time, against the same background, I became weary and wanted more! Thankfully, the 2-player game is funner than the hot place. After annihilating Kid Fan, I found RF a worthy investment.

While Return Fire's relatively simple graphics no longer push the envelope of technology, this title is a sweet game from start to finish.

Kein Jahrhundertwerk, aber möglicherweise die derzeit vergnüglichste Art, zu zweit am selben PC zu spielen. Return Fire verlangt dem Spieler bei weitem nicht soviel Taktik und Planung ab wie andere Echtzeit-Strategiespiele, macht aber gerade den actionbegeisterten Spielern vielleicht deshalb so viel Spaß.

Return Fire is a blast even in the one player mode offering plenty to see and even more to destroy with a two player mode that is sure to split friendships due to its fiercely competitive fun. If you're a fan of military action that never takes itself too seriously, then check out Return Fire as soon as possible.

Not being a big fan of war simulation games, I was pretty impressed with Return Fire. Although the graphics were dithered, it didn't detract from it's fine play mechanics. Unlike most games, it's full motion video was not the main emphasis. The music and sound effects totally get you into the game. War sim fans will love this and casual gamers will not be disappointed. Not bad.

Return Fire is a brilliant game with some kickin' sounds and tasty graphics. A must for your Playstation library.

When I first heard the Playstation version of Return Fire was going to be enhanced, grand thoughts of new backgrounds and vehicles danced in my head. But with only adding a closer zoom perspective and some nice new 3-D graphical effects, this version was not quite the improvement I was hoping for. It's still a great game with some of the best music and one of the most innovative (and addictive) two player modes around, but there's nothing here that shows off the Playstation's power. I'll stick with my 3DO copy, thanks anyway.

Enerverende maar af en toe rommelige wargame. Bijna onbeperkt knallen en vette filmmuziek, maar op den duur toch eentonig. Helaas dus allemaal niet wereldschokkeld, maar dank zij de uitermate spannende muziek wordt dit knap verhuld.

The graphics are similar to the original 3DO version, with only some minor changes, most noticeably in jeep design. The soundtrack, consisting of heavy-duty classical tracks, isn't nearly as powerful in the PSX version, but still works well enough to keep the game going. Return Fire is a great, goofy game, and the two-player mode is even better.

Ideen i Return Fire er udmærket, og 3D-grafikken er ganske pæn SVGA, men der er visse mangler. En mulighed for at spille over netværk og en ordentlig computerstyret modstander ville have gjort underværker.

Det är svårt att misslyckas med ett spel som Return Fire, och även om grafiken inte är i toppklass och nätverksstöd saknas så är det helt okej.

Return Fire beweist wieder einmal, daß auch ein Spiel mit weniger spektakulärer Grafik und dafür guter Zugänglichkeit Spaß machen kann. Ohne Mängel beim Scrolling und mit etwas mehr Abwechslung in der Levelgestaltung wären vier Punkte drin gewesen.

I played Return Fire when it first came out back in mid-90's, and again recently with a group of friends. In both cases, it was an under-whelming experience. Still, I can understand why people were excited about Return Fire back in the day. The game's slick presentation, scaling cameras, and satisfying explosions were certainly impressive for its time. Add in surround sound, an orchestrated soundtrack, and vintage video clips, and it's almost enough to make you overlook its tepid gameplay. But not in 2006!

When no fewer than four companies have their mitts all over a game as slight as Return Fire, you know there must be problems. Indeed, several things just don't come together in this arcade answer to Warcraft and Command & Conquer, proving that what succeeds on the platform market might not necessarily work for the PC. Return Fire was a sure-fire hit on 3D0 and PlayStation, with Next Generation Magazine crowing: “Not since Herzog Zwei on the Genesis has there been a two-player action strategy game of this caliber for a console system.”

Een buitengewoon gebrek aan originaliteit, afschuwelijke graphics, een zenuwslopende besturing en totaal geen verhaal: dat zijn zowat de belangrijkste eigenschappen van 'Return Fire'.

Brugen af den klassike musik er modig, og i et bedre spil ville musikken være prikken over i'et. Desværre leverer Return Fire kun prikken, men intet "i".

Return Fire seems like the perfect head-to-head game on paper, but none of my friends ever wanted to play it for long. Fortunately there's also a single-player mode that challenges you to complete missions in the shortest possible time. It's nothing to write home about, but it's something. Lacking the playability of an arcade title and the depth of a strategy game, Return Fire falls squarely into "no-man's land" of gaming.
