DescriptionLike its predecessor, The Return of Monte Cristo is a hidden object game based on the 1846 classic novel by the French writer Alexandre Dumas. The player once again assumes the role of Edmond Dantès, this time on a quest to find the murderer of his beloved wife.
Most of the time, the objective is to find and click on all the items listed at the bottom of the screen, on period locations related to the plot filled with objects scattered through the scenery. A few key items have to be dragged and dropped on parts of the scenery to perform an action or complete a task. Each location is comprised of several static screens, and the player can navigate between them by clicking on obvious exit spots like doors and other openings. A glass bulb at the bottom-right shows the silhouette of any selected list entry. Some of the list items are written in blue, indicating that the object can only be collected after performing a required action, like using a key to open a door and other scene interactions.
Occasionally, mini-games and puzzles appear as overlaid mechanisms at the center of the screen, usually when moving from scene to scene. The goal is to push buttons, rotate dials or manipulate any other feature to solve them and move to the next location screen. The games can be optionally skipped with a button after a few minutes.
