Description

An illustrated hypertext adaptation of 1988's Choose Your Own Adventure gamebook #78, this adventure retains all 113 narrative sections of the original book, 18 of them a varied array of imaginative endings. The story concerns itself with a visit to an undersea realm by the narrator, with friend Horton James III in tow, to obtain proof of the existence of the kindly Atlanteans (originally aliens from the planet Agyr) and the rival Nodoors feuding with them.

Return to Atlantis is bundled with a supplementary gamebook adaptation of its precursor, 1979's Journey Under the Sea, the second Choose Your Own Adventure (and prolific CYOA author R. A. Montgomery's first!), containing an account of our intrepid explorer's Atlantean travels in the Seeker, a deep-sea submersible, setting the stage for its sequel. It contains 117 sections, 42 of which are different endings.

Trivia

In a nod to gamebook readers who might catch a glimpse of a more-appealing story twist on the other page and jump across narrative streams to pick that thread up, this game will randomly display a new section if the player shakes their iPhone.
