I did not play Rhapsody back when it first came out, so I'm quite glad to get this version. I will admit that I was skeptical at first. The first hour or so seemed way too girly and was lacking any major action. I'm really glad I kept playing though, because it gets really good quickly. If you like RPGs, I recommend getting Rhapsody today!
Rhapsody is one of the best "oldschool" experiences you can have these days. It is NIS's most unique game in scope, perhaps moreso than the Disgaea franchise. It wasn't an easy thing to localize a very heavily Japanese-styled game, but NISA (and Atlus before them) did a fantastic job. This game oozes charm, and if you invest the time to play it from start to finish, the experience will remain in your memory for years to come.
All in all, Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is a fairly enjoyable title that is full of humor and memorable characters. Cornet is the kind of character that every can relate to, one way or another. NIS proves once again that more RPGs need a bit more humor sometimes.
Rhapsody might be lacking in a few sections but it is still a fan role playing game anyone can pick up. The story is on the strange side, same with some of the magic spells. If you are looking for an RPG to take you back to the day when 2-D was popular then look no further, Rhapsody if the game for you.

If you\'re looking for any sort of challenge, then turn around now, but if you prefer characters and light-hearted stories in your RPG. then by all means pick it up. This is a perfect title for newcomers to the RPG genre and hopefully sends a message to other publishers dumping shovelware onto girl gamers.
Still, I can't help but feel that I'm nitpicking. Even with its flaws, Rhapsody is a solid RPG with memorable characters, an engaging story, and is an overall enjoyable experience that never takes itself too seriously. Unless you're completely jaded or prefer games with darker themes, Rhapsody is a fun and whimsical RPG that definitely warrants a look.
In closing, Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is a cute, charming RPG that feels as a great gateway game for people who are interested in the genre. It's not quite as good as the original title, but it's a nice alternative to searching eBay for a mint condition copy of the PlayStation version. The game is very "little girl fantasy-esque," so I wouldn't recommend it to guys. However, if you happen to be a female or have a female friend who isn't really into gaming, I'd recommend checking out this game.
Many gamers are going to dismiss Rhapsody out of hand as too cutesy, too girly, and just plain too weird. Still, the likable characters, fun quest, and lighthearted vibe add up to a loveable game that is well deserving of its cult status, and any DS RPG fan would do well to lighten up a little and follow Cornet on her quest.
Niedliche bonbonbunte Kulissen und Figuren, kaum anspruchsvolle Kämpfe, Helden, die zwischendurch süße japanische Lieder anstimmen – das ist sicherlich nicht jedermanns Vorstellung von guter Rollenspiel-Unterhaltung. Gestandene Genre-Veteranen lockt das recht simple Gameplay mit wenig Spannungsgehalt wohl kaum hinterm Ofen hervor, es sei denn, man hat wirklich ein Faible für witzige Anime-Abenteuer.
Im Gegenzug würde sich Rhapsody eigentlich ganz gut für Einsteiger und die jüngere Zielgruppe (insbesondere Mädchen) eignen – wäre da nicht ärgerlicherweise die fehlende Übersetzung.
As a whole package, Rhapsody delivers a charming and entertaining tale about love and finding one’s happy ending. It falls short on replay value and extras; the oversimplified battle system may bore some fans from even finishing the game though others may find the easy navigation and menu system to be inviting. It’s an easy, relaxing adventure, full of song and dance for fans.
All told, though, Rhapsody's charm and characters do just enough to keep you going through the relatively short 14 hour experience. It won't be for everyone, clearly, and probably not every old school JRPG fan, either, but it's worth a punt. The box art's got pink in it, but it won't leave you feeling blue, even if you're a bloke.
Regardless of Rhapsody’s shortcomings, the game manages to offer an enjoyable and very funny experience; none of it makes much sense, but then, it’s not really meant to. The story is based on children’s-book fantasy, yet it does a wonderful job of poking fun at itself, as well as RPG conventions in general. Younger gamers will likely find its sweet and cheerful mood and easy difficulty an enjoyable, early RPG outing, and older gamers – if they’re not yet too jaded – should appreciate its comical approach to an aged, old-school formula. There’s plenty to do in the game, and after the main adventure concludes, players will be treated to additional gameplay and story. For those folks who’ve already experienced Rhapsody on PlayStation, well, even the new content might be a hard sell, considering all the RPG variety now available on DS. But Rhapsody offers silly fun on the go for newcomers in the mood for something extremely lighthearted with no real rhyme or reason.
At 12 – 14 hours of gameplay, RPG fans who subscribe to the length = value doctrine may feel shortchanged, but within that short time Rhapsody packs a lot of personality. It’s disappointing that there’s nothing new in the DS release, but that won’t matter for the vast majority of us who never got to enjoy Rhapsody on PS1.
Rhapsody might be a good choice for the budding RPG player, but it's too easy and too old fashioned for most of us. Random battles are an archaic mechanic that should be abolished from games forever. Of course, this is a port of an older game so the random battles might be overlooked by fans of the original or old school RPG fans in general. It's a pretty DS game but the formula is stale. I think the developers missed a good opportunity by not injecting music into the gameplay. A boy-obsessed teenager singing cheesy love songs doesn't quite make for a Musical Adventure in my book. Still, Rhapsody's humor and personality do have their charms.

Más bien al contrario: pese a su antigüedad y algunos aspectos que lo hacen obsoleto frente a otros títulos de rol más actuales, el juego sigue divirtiendo casi tanto como cuando salió su edición original hará cosa de diez años. Pero se echa en falta alguna que otra mejora en el aspecto gráfico y jugable que lo hubieran acercado más a los usuarios de consola de hoy en día, así como una mejor localización lingüística. Es un juego infantil y para niñas, sin duda, pero no por ello (y a pesar de todo lo dicho) deja de ser un juego de rol correcto, divertido y entretenido.
Rhapsody is an adventure that is worth checking out for all fans of Nippon Ichi's work. As long as you can overlook the simplicity of the game play, the abundance of cut scenes and its ridiculous amounts of cuteness then there is a lot of fun to be found within. While it will not set the world ablaze it has enough charm to help you overlook its shortcomings.
Luckily such design oversights are quite rare, but an overall polish doesn’t change the fact that this 10 year old remake is suffering from an identity crisis. If the charm and appeal of Cornet’s world gets its claws into you, you’ll be hooked. If not, you’ll be bored before the end of the third chapter.
Rhapsody suffers for being such an old-fashioned game, but being old fashioned doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad. We have to chop off points because the gameplay is easy and archaic and the plot is cheesy, but overall it’s a solid RPG of around 10 hours or so that will leave fans of old-school RPG gaming very happy. Just remember, it’s as far from modern as you can get.

Original copies of Rhapsody are a little hard to come by now a days, so this revitalized DS version is a great option for anyone who wanted to experience Nippon Ichi’s first North American release. Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure is a female driven story that with traditional Japanese RPG elements tossed into the mix. The addition of the new combat engine and already light difficulty makes Rhapsody a great purchase for any girl gamer who owns a Nintendo DS. Rhapsody DS won’t replace your classic Playstation game disc, but it offers an updated touch to this original game in a portable package.
For the right sort of gamer, Rhapsody will be a beautiful symphony that overcomes its lack of depth and challenge, its brevity and various other issues with style to spare. For others, it'll just be noise.
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure had a lot of issues when it was released in 2000, but Rhapsody DS has corrected most of those, and in so doing has become a surprisingly enjoyable game. It is, unfortunately, rather short, lasting a mere ten to fifteen hours; short enough to play in a single day for more dedicated gamers. There are still enough flaws present to alienate a lot of players, but anyone looking for a light-hearted romp through a fairy-tale kingdom should be inclined to take a look.

If you're a big fan of the original or regret never having played it, you should definitely give this remake a look; just don't expect to find much in the way of intrigue, depth, or intensity.
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure feels like a bog standard RPG that strictly plays by the book. There's barely any strategy to the fights, there's rarely a challenge at all outside of randomly placed difficult enemies or a boss (which requires you to *gasp* heal), you can get lost trying to activate the next event, some dungeons can be unnecessarily long and you can get lost in them, which exacerbates the negative side to the random battles design. Because there's little challenge or strategy involved, Rhapsody is a nice RPG to pick up and play, but for everyone else there are plenty of fishes in the great sea of DS RPGs.
Every now and then Cornet breaks into some trite, insipid musical number, and then you regain control so you can complete humiliating goals like "wear a dress that makes you look beautiful". Ugh.
It certainly has some potential, but Rhapsody constantly disappoints. Artistically it shines, with great visuals and music, but everywhere else it is a massive let-down. Predictable and tedious, with very little to keep you interested, this is a game that refuses to do anything to challenge you. Whilst it might be nice to be really good at a game (and anyone will be really good at this one), it isn't nice to sit there bored out of your skull from not being tested in any way shape or form. Probably one only for hardcore fans or the original.

Le concept de comédie musicale intégrée au RPG est vraiment très réussi et intéressant mais l'enrobage est beaucoup trop médiocre pour que l'on puisse vraiment prendre son pied, même si quelques passages peuvent émouvoir. D'autre part, l'adaptation sur DS qui élude l'aspect tactique en rendant le jeu plus facile pour le jeune public aboutit à des phases de combat inintéressantes. Environ une quinzaine d'heures est nécessaire pour venir à bout de ce titre qui, espérons le, verra son idée ré-exploitée dans une autre série.
Rhapsody has the potential to bring new players into the genre, I have to give it that much credit. Unfortunately, those same people that would be interested in it will also have problems sticking with it all the way through. It's a whole lot of “blah” in a tiny piece of plastic. Nothing in this game really encourages you to play because of how boring everything is. If you find a way to get through, especially without a walkthrough, more power to you... but I think this one-hit “wonder” is just a crappy cover of other, better RPGs on this system.
One might make the argument that the game's targeted toward a younger crowd, which may account for the easy combat. But the musical numbers now use the original Japanese voices with English subtitles. This -- combined with the sometimes unapparent path through the storyline -- doesn't make for a kid-friendly game. Outside of the charming (and yes, very girlie) story and genuinely humorous dialogue, all that's left is a short, extremely easy, and sometimes confusing RPG.
