This is a fantasy text based adventure game which also has pictures of most of the locations. It contains about 100 locations and 80 illustrations.
The Ring of Chaos has enslaved the noble sorceress, Lisa, and all space-time is threatened by its destructive influence. As bearer of the Ring of Order, your mission is to free Lisa before reality is disrupted beyond retrieval.
Ring Quest is the nominal sequel of The Quest. Ring Quest returns you to the magical land of Balema, accompanied once more by Gorn, your water-swilling strong-arm. Far to the north is your ultimate goal, the sorceress's mountain citadel. As though its shield of green lightning were not adequate, you soon encounter other obstacles, including trolls, manticores, amorous ogresses, and greedy seers.
Good mapping is amply rewarded in this adventure, where Lisa is liable to pop in at any moment to cast a teleport spell, bewitch Gorn into confusion, which can be hard to detect, or dry up your water supply.

An above average adventure game for its time.
The Good
Every location is shown in graphics on the screen. These graphics are pretty good for 1984 and some of the screens are also animated.
The text is quite well written and the game is not too hard so its never frustrating.
The games manual is written in the style of a game-book. All the paths end up in the same place but you can take different routes to get there.
The Bad
The screens are quite slow to draw, and I ended up turning them off for all the locations I'd been in before. Also each screen loads from the disk every time you visit it to slow things down more (even with the graphics off).
There is a maze section - mazes are a pet hate of mine in any adventure game.
The 2 arcade game sections are really poor.
The Bottom Line
This is a decent enough adventure game considering its age, but with nothing in particular to recommend it in 2008. If I wasn't on a quest to blog my way through every Origin game, I wouldn't have bothered with it.

Trivia
Penguin
Most Penguin Software (or Polarware) games contained a funny little remark about Penguins on the back cover of their games. In this case it is "Penguins carry three-ring binders." Since this is some sort of a Penguin Software "trademark" it can only be found on the back cover of the Penguin Software release, not on the Origin release.
