Bra grafik. Men det absolut bästa i Rise of the Dragon är musiken. Vad ni än gör, missa inte det här.

Rise of the Dragon is without a doubt one of the best games for the Sega CD, period. The Dragon has risen!

Very atmospheric, very involved, and very entertaining. Executed with style, Rise of the Dragon features gorgeously detailed graphics with appropriate background music, from finger-tapping, brain-melting groovy rhythms to the creation of suspense with deep, throbbing beats. Because you luxuriously soak into the game the more you play, the disk swapping barely becomes a hindrance. The game guarantees hours of investigative play, making the price very reasonable. As the follow-up to Heart of China, it's marginal but I'd say Dragon has the upper hand due to a stronger and more intriguing plot.

Rise of the Dragon is a very special game for me personally. It is one of the very few adventure-games I actually finished WITHOUT consulting a walkthrough. I admit, it almost took me two years, but hey, not everybody had the internet in those days, and with that I was just a kid: I couldn't understand half of the mature humor in the game yet. Nowadays, it seems strange to me it took me so long, because once you know what to do; you'll be able to play through the game in about 10 minutes.

The game is great. It has a non-linear plot, many puzzles to be solved, and multiple endings, so you can play it again and again. Characters in the game can and will remember your actions and words, so you must be careful. Also, the game has comic-book style cut scenes that advance the storyline and excellent arcade sequences. In conclusion, I would advise every adventure fan to give this one a try!

Rise of the Dragon is not too difficult or long. Some gamers will likely finish the game within a couple of days. It is still a fun game though and one of the better Sega CD games. If you like these type of games you can also try Snatcher, a higher quality game that is not as dark.

Rise of the Dragon isn't perfect, but if you consider yourself a fan of graphic adventures you should be ashamed of yourself for having overlooked this one for so long. And while it's a shame that a company so closely associated with Sierra so rarely developed anything for the genre their parent made famous, they did use this same engine for another excellent entry, Heart of China.

Overall, Rise of the Dragon is a truly involving sci-fi detective adventure. It features an unique mix of gameplay elements and creates an atmospheric setting with its excellent music and graphics that are also appropriate for the sci-fi backdrop. The game sets itself apart from other original Sierra On-Line games by the special mature Dynamix touch. It is a true gem for fans of the genre interested in thrilling adventure games.

Digital comics have to be my favorite genre on the Sega CD. There's just so much quality in the releases that the handful of games available alone make the add-on worth owning. From Snatcher to Secret of Monkey Island, the Sega CD knows how to show graphic adventure fans a good time. Among the top of the heap has to be Dynamix's Rise of the Dragon, which hauls you in to its dark and decayed world like few other games on the system can.

There are a few frustrating scenes, however - like when you have to tap a videophone. The side-scrolling arcade sequences are a low point as well. If you can get past these unpleasantries, though, you're left with an entertaining adventure.

But even though this Rise of the Dragon is rated MA-17, it tones down some scenes and deletes others. That's a loss, because a game that treats it's mature subject matter in a, well mature fashion would be a step in the right direction - for the growing number of adult gamers, if not the senators who don't believe these players exist.

SEGA CDElectronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
An almost-perfect translation of the PC title. Rise of the Dragon has a richly-deserved MA-17 rating. This one captures it's gritty future incredibly well, with atmospheric graphics, but the problem is there is almost no replay value.

This unique game is pretty graphic and backed by an adult theme. However, it is easy to get stuck permanently in this game if you do the wrong thing. It lacks elements of replay value.

If you're looking for a futuristic detective story in the vein of Snatcher, Rise of the Dragon won't disappoint. It's not amazing in any sense of the word. It's also short, not particularly challenging, and fairly undistinguished. But starving adventurers will be glad to know that it's a competent adventure with good gameplay, not just a new plot and different setting. The Sega CD's "talkie" version is pretty well-acted, but the reduced colors and green tint bring the value of this port back in line with the original. Interested parties should seek out whichever is most convenient.

SEGA CDThe Video Game Critic
The system for manipulating items is confusing, and I was always accidentally leaving items behind at locations. It's also easy to get stuck in "dead end" situations that occur when you fail to make a crucial move, and these can be hard (if not impossible) to recover from. Some of the puzzles, like connecting wires, can be annoying, but at least you can save your place at any time. There are also two arcade-style mini-games thrown in. A lot of people love Rise of the Dragon, but I found it to be difficult and somewhat tedious. If you're into detective games, it may be worth a look.

SEGA CDVideo Games & Computer Entertainment
Rise of the Dragon has some tricky puzzles, but the bad voice acting and fuzzy graphics detract from the fun. If you're into graphic adventures, buy Jurassic Park or Monkey Island before you even consider Dragon.

Don’t be fooled; the original disk-based release might be considerably harder to find, but it tears this CD “upgrade” into thousands of itty-bitty pieces.
