is an educational game developed for the Science Museum in London as part of the museum’s “Climate Science” exhibitions. The game mechanic is loosely based upon a “tower defense” style strategic approach, but set within the caverns and caves of a dark and mysterious alien planet.
Players nurture and defend their 'mother plant' born from a seed that falls from the sky. The player must seek out resources to grow the plant and place "collectors" - Slurpers, Catchers and Breezers, to send energy back to the plant. The resources available can be generally thought of as representing oil, wind and nuclear energy. Collecting energy is not without risk as there are indigenous plants that also occupy this world. If your search for energy disturbs these plants they begin to emit deadly spores which drift to your mother plant and damage it. The release of these spores is based on chance, representing varying risk in the hunt for energy in the real world.
As your plant grows, it rewards you with 'coins'. These can also be spent on defensive creatures named Bleep, Beat and Block. They do not attack the enemy plants or spores, but only have defensive shields of varying size that stop the spores reaching your mother plant. As these shields fail, they need to be replenished. Each new stage (of which there are 20) challenges players to understand the landscape, identify the locations of resources and threats, and determine the risks involved in collecting resources and protecting their plant.
