It's surprisingly easy to maneuver and maintain your position alongside opponents. Fighting while trying to avoid oncoming traffic can be quite a rush, but there's more. A cop on a motorcycle will try to run you off the road, but no, you can't beat him up (although everybody tries). After a motorcycle wrecks, the driver goes flying, but he's not out of the race yet! He'll automatically run back to his bike, which is often lying in the middle of the road. As you can guess, each oncoming motorcycle tries to run him over. And I can't forget the incredible music. These hard-edged, high-energy tunes are the best I've heard in a Genesis game - they REALLY get your adrenaline flowing. After each race you win cash to upgrade your bike or buy a new one, and you can save your place using a huge, hard-to-read password. Road Rash is a true classic that stands the test of time.

The 3D effect, though not silky smooth, is very fast and sufficiently convincing to make you think you're rocketing up the road at 140 mph and the crash effects are excellent! Run into the back of a car at high speed and both you and the bike are catapulted over the bonnet, and while you're lying stunned by the roadside, the car is bouncing the bike further up the road! Road Rash makes all other race games seem like a crashing bore, so try it and buy it!

Wahey! Motorbikes, irresponsible road behaviour and loads of foul play! Ingredients guaranteed to bring a grin to my weathered chops!! And Road Rash combines all them to produce a truly thrilling racing game which really sets your pulse racing! The utterly convincing 3D graphics are incredibly speedy, and the road twist and turns over the stomach-churningly realistic hills. Razor sharp reflexes are required to ensure you don’t hurtle nose-first into a hedge, fly uncontrollably off the top of a hill and crash into a tree or smash into an oncoming car! Don’t be put off by the fact that there are only five tracks; they’re all pretty long and get very tough on later levels, with loads of manic riders and mad drivers. And don’t forget that there are eight new bikes to save up for! If, like me, you’re a speed psycho looking for sheer out-and-out adrenalin-surging action, this is the ultimate ride.

Road Rash for the Game Gear has all the excitement of the Electronic Arts original. It twists open the throttle for highway hijinks on the small screen.

Road Rash est vraiment un concept avant-gardiste qui ébauche des succès de la décennie suivante comme San Francisco Rush, Burnout et surtout Grand Theft Auto, avec lequel il partage la possibilité de se séparer de son véhicule, le choix du réalisme, la violence physique et, contrairement à Chase HQ mais comme dans Need for Speed, un personnage qui se retrouve de l'autre côté de la loi, poursuivi par la police. Il a des qualités exemplaires qui sur notre site se traduisent par des quatre-vingt dix et quelques pour cent bien mérités. Néanmoins, tout n'est pas parfait et un défaut encombrant vient sérieusement gâté les parties dans les niveaux supérieurs. C'est la jouabilité.

The only criticism I can level at Road Rash is that it is a little slow. While immensely playable, it doesn't deliver the feeling of charging down a road at 120mph. As a fan of the Megadrive version (which is already well over a year old) I was hoping Electronic Arts would do a bit more with this. Road Rash 2 on the Megadrive is nearing completion, and has such extra features as more weapons, including a vicious chain, improved bikes and more characters. It would have been nice to see some of these features included, or perhaps a few original ideas, rather than this just being a straight conversion. That said it's still very playable and nicely violent. Not the best race game available, but still a nice change from the usual sporting lot.

Någon avancerad 3d-grafik är det inte tal om, men med tanke på att det är ett halvt decennium gammalt så ser det ändå ganska trevligt ut. Spelkänslan, som är snäppet viktigare, står sig. Musiken känns något för mjuk för att passa i ett mc-spel, men är annars helt ok. Gillar du inte racingspel så kan du lika gärna spara pengarna, men annars är det helt klart ett köpvärt spel.

Les graphismes sont assez fins, l’animation soignée et les décors variés. Chacune des cinq localités visitées dispose de moult détails graphiques et de musiques qui lui sont propres. Pour ne rien gâcher, les sprites sont de taille respectable. Lorsque l’on entre dans le championnat, une impression trompeuse se dégage : votre moto se traîne lamentablement dans les lignes droites et s’envole au moindre petit caillou sur la route. Bref, il ne faut pas grand-chose pour se faire éjecter de sa monture. Tout cela change radicalement lorsque l’on progresse dans les classements et que l’on récolte quelques menus dollars. Fini l’ennui, car aux commandes de votre flambante Diablo 1000, vous allez en manger du bitume!

This game was way ahead of its time and never matched during the 16-bit era. Today it is truly a classic, well deserved of the odd replay and long overdue a release on the latest generation of video games consoles.

A racing game with personality but aside from the fact that you can punch other riders, this doesn't really offer much that's different from other racing games.

Da es auf dem Mega Drive nicht allzu viele gute Rennspiele gibt, wird Road Rash eine ganze Menge Freunde finden. Die 3-D-Grafik ist ausreichend flott und flüssig, kommt gut rüber, ist aber nicht allzu schön gezeichnet. Als Enttäuschung entpuppte sich die Musik: selbst die Effekte sind saft- und kraftlos. Das Fahrgefühl dagegen überzeugt schon eher. Das Motorrad liegt gut auf der Straße, läßt sich vernünftig steuern und auch die Feindattacken gelingen. Wenn Electronic Arts noch etwas mehr Strecken und ein paar mehr (optische und spielerische) Gags auf den Pisten eingebaut hätte, hätte mein "Gut"-Gesicht noch ein bischen mehr gestrahlt. Ansprechend, nicht sensationell.

Immerhin läßt die Grafik kaum einen Unterschied zur Originalversion erkennen, und der 3D-Effekt kommt trotz leichten Ruckelns gut rüber. Steuerung, Musik- und Soundbegleitung gehen ebenfalls in Ordnung, bloß die ständige Nachladerei nervt. Na, denn wünschen wir mal gute Fahrt und 'nen harten Schlag!

If this game is given to you for free, experience all I've told you for half an hour and just put it up, and don't ever bother playing it again. Shame on 3d6 for not licensing this technology for games like Driver or GTA2.

Although Road Rash is a more than competent port, a larger-than-life motorcycle combat game really needs a larger screen. This version makes you feel as though you are riding a mini-bike instead of a motorcycle, and the head-bashing, cop-punching action loses much of its impact. Basically, with the hundreds of Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles on the market, this one could slide right past your collection and you could probably survive without it. However, if you have yet to tire of the Road Rash series, and you don't mind the smaller scale, then by all means rush out and buy (or at least rent) the game.

Un jeu moyen qui ne possède pas de gros défaut à par celui d'être lassant, vraiment lassant rapidement. L'ambiance s'estompe trop vite.

Die Umsetzung des Mega-Drive-Hits ist Electronic Arts halbwegs gut geglückt. Die Grafik ist schön schnell, wenn auch farblich etwas mager und nicht sehr aufwendig. Wie sich Fahrer und Maschinen in die Kurven legen, verdient dagegen Lob und Anerkennung. Motoradfeeling ist durchaus vorhanden. Allerdings mangelt es trotz Prügeleinlagen an aufheiternden Abwechslungen. Zwar düsen einige Charaktere mit, denen man öfters im Rennen begegnet, andere sind wieder mit Knüppel bewaffnet und sogar die Polizei mischt auf den Landstraßen mit, doch auf Dauer endet das Road Rash-Spektakel in einem routinierten Abfahren der Strecken und gelegentlichem Abreagieren an den Gegners. Electronic Arts hätte besser daran getan, gleich die angekündigte Fortsetzung für den Amiga zu adaptieren. Der zweite Teil bietet zum Beispiel einen Split-Screen für den herbeigesehnten Zwei-Spieler-Modus. So ist Road Rash ein solides Rennspiel mit Rüpel-Touch, das einige Tage amüsiert, aber langfristig nicht überzeugen kann.

Men det är inte riktigt så tråkigt som man skulle kunna misstänka. I alla fall inte i genren bärbara motorcykelspel. Spelkontrollen är hyfsad och ibland får man till och med lite fartkänslevibbar. Men, ärligt talat, i min värld är Game Boy Color en maskin som i första hand lämpar sig för RPG, pussel och plattformsspel. Och möjligen bilspel i helikopterperspektiv. Att göra ett i grunden kul koncept, som Road Rash faktiskt är, rättvisa på en maskin med den här prestandan är omöjligt. Men det här var i alla fall ett hyggligt försök.

Poor conversion of a basic but fun MD game. No skill required, just huge amounts of luck, as you can't see what' coming down the road. Think once, think think twice, think again before you buy this.
