Rock & Roll Racing was one of the best games ever released in the 16-bit era for the SNES (and later the Genesis). One can't help but to think that it inspired and paved the way for games such as Wipeout and Extreme G. It exhibited tight control, excellent graphics and an unprecedented soundtrack. This game was simple in concept and flawless in execution.

Rock 'n' Roll Racing is great. Don't think it's being marketed solely on the gimmick of having great classic rock tracks. Not at all. In fact, it's a superb game with the music as a bonus. Buy it.

You remember the ace RC Pro Am games for the NES? You do... Well imagine RC Pro Am with better graphics with famous rock music hits like Born to be Wild in the background. Now add some cool vehicles equipped with lasers, missiles, bombs and nitros that´s racing on a deserted desert planet fro life and death and you´ve got Rock 'n Roll Racing in a nutshell!

Lately on the Game Boy Advance, we've been flooded with a deluge of 16-bit era games. The Lost Vikings, for example, made its debut on the Game Boy Advance a few months ago. The same developers have taken Rock'n'Roll (RnR) Racing and turned it into a modern handheld title. RnR is a classic isometric arcade racer. In addition to racing, you can set defensive traps along the race course as well as initiate attacks with offensive weapons.

Rock 'n Roll Racing isn't an original racer by any means, but it's such a well put together design with an incredible amount of energy, both in its action and its soundtrack that it's hard not to enjoy the game. Though the game's difficulty starts out like a cakewalk, trying to beat the computer drones in the later levels becomes amazingly intense and challenging since they're absolutely ruthless in blasting out their weaponry.

This game was made by Interplay and Blizzard, two game companies that would become giants in the industry. Anyone who's played RC Pro Am on the NES will feel right at home with R&R Racing. The 45-degree, pseudo-3D view of the track gives you a good angle, letting you see just enough of the road ahead. Cars are equipped with front and rear weapons. The elevated tracks are available on six "planets", which offer unspectacular but colorful scenery. The gameplay is surprisingly deep. You can buy different types of cars, upgrade them, and equip them with all sorts of gadgets. A password lets you save your spot. The two-player split-screen is also a lot of fun, and let's not forget about the music! The Sega Genesis isn't known for its great audio, but you'll hear stellar versions of "Paranoid", "Bad To The Bone", "Born To Be Wild", and "Radar Love", among others. Be sure to turn off the annoying announcer, who often interrupts the music.

With it's wild fantasy elements this game is to legitimate racing what the Mutant League games are to football and hockey. And with it's adjustable difficulty setting and cartoony creations, it should appeal to a wide range of fun-lovin' gamers lookin' for a brash, entertaining time.

Overall, Rock N’ Roll Racing is a fun, fast, arcade racing title that packs a lot of enjoyment and replay value (with some serious kick-butt attitude added in as well). Even though this is a direct port of an older racing title, it can still hold it’s own against the majority of other GBA racers that are out nowadays in my opinion.

Back before Blizzard was known as a creator of fantastic PC real-time strategy games and action RPGs, the company developed console games for Interplay. Blizzard actually put out some great 16-bit games, including The Lost Vikings, Blackthorne, and the most recent entry in the long list of Super Nintendo games that have made their way to the Game Boy Advance, Rock 'N Roll Racing. Blizzard's racing game essentially picked up the torch carried by RC Pro-Am and ran with it, delivering a game that improved upon Rare's original isometric racing game in several ways. The Game Boy Advance version of the game is a great port of a 16-bit classic.

All in all, Rock N' Roll Racing provides a great reason to relive one of the best racing titles ever to grace the SNES. Mass Media has done a sterling job with the port, and if you can get past the slightly dated visuals, you'll find the heart of the stylish, carnage-filled ride beating away underneath. Rock N' Roll Racing is reborn and it's great. I'm now looking forward to seeing how Blackthorne looks on the GBA later in the year.

It has the potential to be superb, but the track boundaries almost ruin it. With a bit more freedom to roam with your mean machine, this could have challenged Micro Machines.

'Rock 'n' Roll Racing' is convincing due to simple handling, easy start and adjustable difficulty levels. These make this game replayable in contrary to many other similar games. A 2-player game adds to this good impression. The only negative aspect is that the race tracks could be a lot more variable.

Let's face it, when hard rock and metal were still great, this soundtrack could make up for almost any shortcomings the premise and gameplay had; it could really improve the game. But if you take away the trend and take it at face value, then you have to admit that it isn't much more than a pretty mediocre game. Hardcore rock fans (there still are some of them out there, and I count myself among them) might gain more pleasure from playing and may add one additional point to the score. Overall, here is a prime example of something that hasn't aged well. This games sound has gone off and now tastes pretty bland.
