Rygar

Nevertheless, Rygar is a very fun game overall. It was one of the first NES games I bought and I still play it every so often. So if you enjoy fun action/adventure games with weird monsters like two-headed lions covered in turtle shells, I suggest checking this game out.

In summary, this game features excellent control and pacing, the freedom of nonlinear level design, good graphics, a fabulous soundtrack, and one of the coolest weapons that any videogame hero has ever wielded. Just make sure you have a nice block of time to indulge!

Det finns 23 levels att springa och hoppa sig igenom, och det gäller att slå ihjäl alla monster som kommer i ens väg. Det allra coolaste monstret dyker upp om du är för länge på en och samma nivå – då mörknar himlen, musiken blir hotfull och vips! – så är du död. Detta monster är en frisk fläkt jämfört med dom annars så töntiga uppenbarelser som man är tvungen att möta i en del andra tråkiga och löjliga spel. Och nu när jag ändå är på gott humör, så vräker jag på och hävdar glatt att detta spel är helt suveränt kul. Speciellt gillar jag att det är raka puckar – inget tråkigt läsande av romantjocka bruksanvisningar här inte. Det är bara döda eller dödas. Så ta nu tillfället i akt, och sno åt er pappas eller mammas plånbok när dom är på toaletten och spring sedan och inhandla Rygar – därmed basta.

Rygar est un excellent jeu d'aventure avec une petite touche RPG. La musique, les ennemis, ainsi que les décors, s'agencent bien pour créer une ambiance unique.

A smooth scrolling horizontal beat 'em-up that is relatively easy but fun at the same time. Shadow Of The Beast is more exciting, but by Lynx standards Rygar is by no means a bad game and, being nicely animated as well as fast, this is well worth a look.

Rygar is classic NES action all the way. In this better-than-average platformer, you control a mysterious warrior armed with a weapon that resembles a huge yo-yo. Rygar is mainly a side scrolling affair, but there are a few overhead stages, although these are marred by a lack of diagonal movement. The creatures you encounter are weird beyond description, with mutated birds leading the pack. Rygar is great fun despite some significant slow-down and graphic break-up. A mysterious dojo appears every so often to provide guidance, but it's usually pretty cryptic stuff. My favorite aspect of this game is the music. It sounds like every other tune you've ever heard on your NES, but it's great nonetheless.

Rygar hat zwar schon einige Jahre auf der Rüstung, doch an Frische und Elan mangelt es dem Recken nicht. Technisch zählt das Modul zur Oberklasse; Grafik sowie Sound bleiben nicht zurück. Dank der sanften Action-Adventure-Einlagen verkommt Rygar nicht zum belanglosen Actiongekloppe. In erster Linie ist zwar Geschicklichkeit und Timing gefragt, doch mit etwas taktischem Kalkül geht's besser voran. Wer an Spielen wie "Ghosts'n'Goblins" Gefallen findet, der wird auch Rygar mögen. Zahlreiche interessante Levels garantieren zudem für langfristiges Vergnügen. Ein guter NES-Start für Tecmo Soft.

Den ollen Spielhallenraufbold Rygar hat Tecmo für die NES-Version ganz schön umgestrickt. Das Hack-und-Metzel-Spiel wurde zum reinsten Action-Adventure, bei dem es keine Punkte gibt, sondern das Erforschen der verschiedenen Welten als alleiniger Motivationsspender herhält. Angesichts der schicken Grafik und der Hatz nach den wichtigen Bonusgegenständen macht die Mischung aus Action und Entdeckung durchaus Spaß. Da man beim Verlust eines Lebens mit derselben Ausrüstung im gleichen Level weiterspielt, kommt so leicht kein Frust auf. Zwei Schwachpunkte gibt es allerdings: An einigen Stellen nerven die übertrieben häufigen Monsterattacken. Außerdem verliert Rygar gewaltig an Reiz, sobald es einmal gelöst ist, wozu ein guter Spieler nicht allzu lange brauchen wird. Dennoch ein Lob an die Programmierer, die aus einem dumpfen Automatengeprügel ein ansehnliches NES-Action-Adventure gemacht haben.

Gillar man ett spel som hela tiden går ut på att man kan ska skjuta och ta sig upp nivå efter nivå är Rygar ett självklart val. Jag tycker att det ger ganska mycket spel för pengarna. Risken finns att det känns lite enformigt efter ett tag.

Das fortgeschrittene Alter merkt man Tecmos Prügelknaben natürlich an, trotzdem macht "Rygar" auf dem Lynx eine recht gute Figur. Gerade das einfache Spielprinzip und die unkomplizierte Steuerung sorgen für unbeschwerte Jump'n'Run-Freude. Trotzdem glaube ich kaum, daß die Anfangsmotivation die ersten Spielstunden unbeschadet überlebt. Großartige Veränderung bringt ein neuer Level nicht, die Sonderwaffen wirken nach heutigem Maßstab zudem extrem antiquiert. Für Spielhallennostalgiker und für unterwegs genau das richtige, als Jump'n'Run für die 90er Jahre gerade noch Mittelmaß.

There is nothing really wrong with Rygar, it is a pretty good action title through and through. But it's long length, lack of saving/continuing, and frustration level, is enough to keep it from the recommendation list. I'll be the first to admit that the upcoming Rygar PlayStation 2 game is looking mighty good, but this, my friends, is not the way to pass the time while waiting. This is a lousy game. It's proof that even if you do mostly everything right, it doesn't mean it's going to be a great game.
