Overall I would give the game 9 out of 10, except we do letter grades at Just Adventure and that works out to an A in my book.. What’s not to like? The game has 20% more product for the same price (read 20% longer). The puzzles are harder without hints causing game players to say Duh for much longer. I loved the plot and I love Sam & Max.
I am a fan of these games, if you hadn't already picked that up. Bright, colourful, witty, anarchic and plain, simple, fun -- they are a perfect antidote to the gloom that descends at this time of year. Ice Station Santa is the first of five episodes planned for Season Two, rather than the six of Season One. Finally, if you've ever wondered what a Shambling Corporate Presence looked like ... wait no longer: buy this episode.
So, in a nutshell and making sure the review’s length keeps with the game’s, you shouldn’t really think about this no matter what you thought of/did with the previous Sam & Max offerings. It an absolute must play. Download episode 201 safe in the knowledge that the show just isn’t getting old. It’s instead improving in every technical way imaginable, while happily retaining puzzles and writing of the highest quality.

There are some new features in store for those who are veterans of Season One, the most obvious of which are the increased screen resolutions and the in-game help system. It’s nice to see native widescreen support in the game and at the highest resolution the game has a nice animated look to it with bright colors and crisp lines. The new in-game help system lets you specify the level of help you would like from none at all to frequent hints. The game senses when you may be going in circles and one of the characters will make a remark to send you off in the right general direction or give you more blatant direction at the higher hint levels. It’s a nice and elegant system and a welcome addition to the series.

Sam & Max Season Two starts out with a bang (from Santa’s gun) in Ice Station Santa. Not only is this episode one of the best yet on its own, but the changes to the engine are smart and show that Telltale isn’t simply resting on its laurels. All signs point toward another great season for the freelance police.
By now players should know exactly what they're getting. Solid point and click adventure gaming in the old-school Lucas Arts tradition, sharp writing, and the usual stable of characters. While there have been some changes and remodeling in the time off, this is more of the same good stuff as the first season. If the craving for more has hit you by now, this will make the perfect stocking stuffer.

If the rest of season two is just as good as Ice Station Santa, gamers will be as happy as a kid on Christmas morning, although they’ll never look at Kris Kringle the same way ever again in light of Santa’s portrayal in the game. Anybody that can make Sam and Max seem normal by comparison truly is insane and delusional. There are plenty of hijinks and hilarity to be found during Ice Station Santa in the unraveling of the Santa legend, Sam and Max style.

Ice Station Santa is definitely one of the longer episodes of the batch, and it may easily become a fast favorite. Still, even with the hints turned completely off it will only take you a handful of hours to plow through this gem. It's a relatively short title, yet it burns brightly while it last. It's a gut-busting adventure from start-to-finish. For the budget download price of $8.95 per episode, it seems a good trade. The rest of the episodes in season two are expected to be released one after another in the coming months. A retail release will likely follow sometime later next year if you have the patience to wait that long for a box full of Sam & Max Season Two goodness.

To conclude, this game is easily one of my favorite sam and max games so far, and kicks off the new season brilliantly. Evidence is everywhere that telltale have tried to make the best game possible, and it certainly shines out of the game. The game's story is strong and filled with witty humor, and the new characters are just as scatty and hair brained as the rest of the cast. If you loved last season's games, you will love this just as much if not more, I know I certainly did.
So why not try out Sam & Max: Ice Station Santa — I dare you! It's the right time of year and Santa just might surprise. If you have played the previous episodes this one won't disappoint. Though it's more of the same (would we have it any other way?) it's varied enough to keep everyone entertained.
Just slightly below Reality 2.0 on the list of great episodes; it’s laugh-out-loud funny, with very intelligent puzzle design and a totally demented self-contained story which interjects demonic possession into a sacred holiday. An absolute must-play.
With the holidays here, this Christmas themed game fits in perfectly with the current mood. Since I was a newcomer to the series, this episode made me want to go back and play the previous games and eager to see more of the coming season 2. Sam & Max is good clean fun for nearly the whole family. You would be crazy not to at least give this a try.

Overall, Sam & Max: Ice Station Santa is a great holiday release. Telltale made great use of the holiday theme, as well as themes from past Sam & Max episodes. The great thing about Ice Station Santa is whether you have played before or not, you can jump right in. The learning curve is negligible and no past experience is required. If you know how to point a cursor, click and think outside the box, you should be able to play this game and enjoy it.
It's really not hard to pinpoint the type of game that Sam & Max: Ice Station Santa is - if you loved Season One, then starting the fun over again with the first episode in Season Two is a no brainer. While this episode probably isn't the most challenging or advanced we've seen from the series yet, there's no reason such fans won't find enjoyment well worth the price of admission with Ice Station Santa. For those who haven't yet had a chance to check out what all the fuss is about, if you fancy yourself as the type that would enjoy a quirky and unique adventure title then you can't go wrong either - I'm tempted to suggest you really should acquire and finish Season One first to fully understand all elements of the gameplay and storyline but it isn't entirely necessary, just recommended.
Much of the humor and gags return with Season 2; Sam and Max are as funny as ever, and the laughs don't get old as long as you prefer their style of humor. In other words, fans of Season 1 (or just comedic adventure gamers) will definitely find a wonderful game with Ice Station Santa. Everything that was great in Season 1 returns, and while the new additions may not be major, they are noticeable.

After a somewhat rocky progression last season, I am pleased to announce that as far as Season 2 Episode 1 is concerned, Sam and Max is back and better than ever. This is an amazingly strong start to the second season, and it has me anxious to continue on with the adventures of Sam and Max.
So, in case this is your first time in the world of the Sam and Max games, this is absolutely the perfect title to begin the adventures. Ice Station Santa showcases the unique blend of characters, puzzles, and comedic writing that first made LucasArts a force to be reckoned with in adventure gaming. I look forward to episode 2 and strongly recommend this game to one and all.
Ice Station Santa is a huge step in the right direction for the Sam and Max franchise. Every aspect of the game dramatically improved over the previous season. Telltale still has a ways to go to match the brilliance of Steve Purcell’s masterpiece, but I have faith they can pull it off after Ice Station Santa’s dramatic evolution. Season 2 is well worth the purchase, which is only around $7 if you get the Season Pass.

Adventurefans hollen hen achterna!
Playing through Ice Station Santa not only reminded us, as most of the Sam & Max instalments tend to, that there really aren’t enough good point and clickers around, but also that there aren’t enough games with a Christmas theme to them. In an age where games produced specifically for the festive season (remember Christmas NiGHTS Into Dreams?) have become practically extinct, yet another benefit of the episodic model has been highlighted. So join us in raising a festive glass: here’s to a great point and click adventure, a splendid Christmas setting and, with fingers crossed, another six months of superb Sam & Max flavoured comedy into the New Year.
If Season One was all about the Telltale team finding their way in the then brand-new episodic gaming format, Season Two seems to be a newly mature and confident team bringing us an even funnier, sharper and more enjoyably satirical experience. Ice Station Santa marks a great start for what looks like a great new series of Sam & Max games. Ice Station Santa can be purchased and downloaded for $8.95 (the game is free with a Gametap subscription) for about four to six hours of entertainment, but the way to go is probably the entire six-episode "Season Two" package that's available for $34.95. Welcome back boys, it's good to see you again!
We normally complain about how brief some of the past Sam & Max episodes are, but we're happy to say that Ice Station Santa is just the right length. The hint system helps out tremendously with the pacing, even though one or two are a little vague. There's still a whole season's worth of episodes to go, and we can't wait to see how the bigger story unfolds and where Sam & Max drive their Desoto to next.
Ice Station Santa is a great way to start a brand new season of Sam & Max. While it's not nearly as entertaining as Reality 2.0 or Abe Lincoln Must Die (the two best episodes from last season), it does a good job of introducing new characters and starting what will surely be a fun new adventure. This Christmas-inspired story is interesting enough to keep you engaged for the two or three hours it will take you to beat it, and you'll definitely come away with a different impression of Santa Claus. Not that there was ever any doubt, but Sam & Max's second season looks like it's getting off to a great start.
WindowsAdventure Classic Gaming
Episode 201: Ice Station Santa makes a great addition to the franchise and adds enough twists over past episodes to make this a great standalone game. It remains to be seen if each episode in the new season will differ more than it has been in the last season, but it has good potential.
It's hard to judge these small episodes by the standards we normally reserve for most games, but anyway you slice it, this new episode is a great beginning to what we hope is going to be a great season. The puzzles are enjoyable but not overly taxing, but that's not what you play the game for. What you're really going to enjoy here are the great new settings and gags. The new stuff makes the whole experience seem fresh. Let's just hope they don't get overused in the coming months.
Pros and cons aside I have no regrets in the time I spent playing Sam and Max and Ice Station Santa will have a place on my shelf with the first season. I approve of what they’re doing for adventure gaming, and I do like the episodic format. It brings its own struggles, but Telltale is doing a good job of addressing issues and I think they’ll get better as they go. This episode would likely rate in my top three, sharing company with Abe Lincoln Must Die and Reality 2.0. It’s a strong offering in the Sam and Max universe and has introduced some new places and people that I’m interested in learning more about. I know I’ll be back next episode…
Ice Station Santa is certainly well up to the standard that previous episodes set in terms of gags, surreal set-pieces and all the quirks that we love about the series. If you loved the previous episodes, you'll love this, no question. But as a game in isolation, it's hard to get away from the fact that finding the right object to give to the right person or thing isn't the most fun you'll ever have with a game. A year ago it was nostalgic and fun to go back to the point-and-click style, but now...it's feeling old and stuck in its ways. For the money, you can't argue that it offers great value and the gags are as fresh as ever - but I can't deny that I think standing still in gameplay terms is a mistake that won't help it attract a new audience.
