Once again the writing, plot and character development are strong points for the game. Yet it was the dialogue and voice talent which grabbed me with this season finale. No villain was left unscathed from throughout the season. The crispness of the repartee had me in gales of laughter on more than the odd occasion. Absolutely brilliant. The amount of work that went into this last episode is indeed apparent. The inside jokes and insane lunacy that permeate “What’s New, Beelzebub?” is immersive, fiendishly delightful and a gleeful joy to play.

The plot this time is loaded with not so surprising reversals and twists. As Sam & Max veterans we have learned by now to expect the unexpected. Perhaps we have become jaded. Like Max, we like it that way.

A great ending to an amazing season, and it ties a lot of things from both seasons up nicely.

I've said it before, but there's no question that if you haven't been playing Sam & Max, it's worth biting the bullet and buying the bundle for the whole season. At around $9 an episode, or $35 for the whole second season, it's worth getting the whole package. You get far more than your typical supply of play for that $35, and there's plenty of quality humor and laugh-out-loud moments throughout the latest adventure of the Freelance Police. As Sam points out, "Wow. I think unwittingly bringing about the apocalypse is a first for us, little buddy."

As a finale, it’s far superior to last year’s effort. As an adventure game, it’s quite simply one of the best you’ll find on the PC today. The only reason you shouldn’t buy this is if you’ve not yet played its predecessors, as you’d be hopelessly lost. For Sam & Max’s well established fan base though, this is a fitting and superior adventure offering that will probably prove to be three or four of the funniest hours in gaming this year.

WindowsArmchair Empire, The
While the end credits roll, Sybil finally finds her true happiness in a wedding ceremony that marries her off to the Lincoln Memorial’s Abe stone head. (I don’t really know how they’re supposed to consummate the marriage, seeing that Abe’s literally only a massive stone head. But hey, we are talking about unstable Sybil here, so no one really knows is she’s aware of what she’s really getting into with her bodiless “boulder boy” now-husband.) A perfectly enjoyable and satisfying finale, that seems to eliminate the aggravatingly grating Soda Poppers once and for all, along with a grand wrap-up of all of the season’s storylines, make “What’s New, Beelzebub?” a must-play for all Sam & Max fans until the as-of-yet-unannounced-but-highly-likely-coming-soon Season Three makes its debut soon.

Those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about really should do yourself a favour and catch up with those of us that do. You’re missing out on a fantastic series of games that have just been blessed with one extremely well-produced conclusion.

The best of the episodes! I enjoyed this last episode more so than any of the others. The humor hit my funny bone dead on, and I enjoyed seeing all the stuff littered around the locations from the previous episodes. The only feature I didn’t care for was the constant traveling back and forth on the Soul Train. Everything else was a hoot, though. Everyone should get the full Season 2.

Costing $8.95, Sam and Max: Episode 205 barely costs more than a movie ticket, yet it provides six to eight hours of humorous and entertaining gameplay. Anyone looking for a good laugh and wanting to take a break from adrenaline-pumping titles should pick up a copy.

Sam & Max 205: What's New Beelzebub? is the perfect way to wrap up the season. If you've gotten the first four episodes, then definitely grab this one, else you might want to wait a bit and get the whole thing in one fell swoop when the complete season comes out.

What's New, Beelzebub? is Telltale's development team at the top of its game and is a perfect way to end Season Two.

This episode is a carefully orchestrated symphony that ends story threads, revisiting each episode and all the characters in them with sharp wit, elegance, and great story-telling craft.

The price tag for these games feels about right for the number of hours that come out of them, and I find myself going back and replaying earlier episodes, which helps me to feel that I got the bang I want for my buck.

While it is rather hard to call this episode out as being the best in the season without pointing directly at every other episode and explaining that they are firmly the reasons it is like that, this is simply the best of the bunch. While at no time should this episode be played without going through all of the previous iterations it is possibly the best and most rewarding ending to an otherwise amazingly clever and well paced experience. Here’s hoping that next season can find a way to be even better.

Sam and Max "What's New Beelzebub?" is a perfect ending to a great season. The last two or three episodes have been the best yet and fans of the series will be more than satisfied with the plot and scripting in Ep5, which is sharper than ever. The chubby Satan deserves special praise as he is utterly hilarious and the whole context of the game ties all the season together into a nicely rounded finale. The only question is, have they any material left to create a season 3? I hope so.

It's funny, its puzzles are satisfying, and, as Anthony mentioned, is a fine example of episodic gaming's potential.

„What’s new, Belzebub?“ ist das gelungene Finale der zweiten „Sam & Max“-Episode und versetzt die beiden Schnüffler in ein neues, interessantes Setting. Für Fans der Reihe und Liebhaber gelungener Point-&-Klick-Adventures ein absolutes Muss.

The overall corporate atmosphere of Hell and the characterization of Satan are hilarious and, better still, the actual content of the episode ties up the first two seasons very nicely.

The Second Season Finale does what Return of the Jedi did for Star Wars – ties up all the loose ends and wraps everything up in a neat little package.

WindowsVideo Game Generation
What’s New, Beelzebub? doesn't quite match the brilliance found in earlier episodes this season, but to be honest it doesn’t really need to. It still does a good job of wrapping up the events in season two, delivering a satisfying conclusion and plenty of the series’ trademark humor to keep things moving along. Now that I know how things end, I can definitely recommend season two to any adventure gaming fan that has yet to experience it. As always, new players should go back and start at the beginning of the season (Ice Station Santa), because the payoff in episodes like this is well worth the time investment.

While the writing is not quite as funny as in the previous episode nor are the puzzles quite as creative, what Episode 5 lacks in these two areas it makes up for in sheer volume. This is one of the longest episodes in either season thus far, and ties together the story in Season 2 very nicely.

Sam & Max Episode 205: What’s New, Beelzebub? is a great episode and a great ending to another season. With Sam and Max reigning in Hell, they may just make Hell a better place! There is no more need to be afraid of doing bad deeds now. After all, Hell seems a pretty fun place to be.

Telltale Games should be extremely proud of the insanity they've accomplished with this season. Normally a kitchen-sink approach to gaming like this tends to fall flat or lose all momentum prematurely, but the writing has been so sharp and the energy level so high, that the season has been an unmatched success, a technical marvel as well as a riotously enjoyable adventure gaming experience.

Sure, it doesn't do anything new with the gameplay (do any of the episodes?), but What's New, Beelzebub? is a fitting wrap-up to Season 2, and it's arguably the most enjoyable episode since season-starter Ice Station Santa.
