What else can be said about Sam and Max Episode Four is that you must and I mean you must check out this gem as it is one of the best games to come out in the last few years, bar none it can easily rank as one of the best adventure games as well. Props should be given to Telltale Games for releasing one of the most popular episodes and most universally liked episodes from Season One as freeware and hopefully with this release it can also bring more gamers to see Sam and Max in Season Two. So go forth and download this game and see all the hard work and effort that Telltale has done to make this one of the best episodes in Season One and maybe pick up Season One after that if you really like this game.

Sam & Max Season 1 – Abe Lincoln Must Die! is aimed at fans of Sam and Max and anyone who savors the ridiculous – particularly where politics are concerned.

Με το Abe Lincoln Must Die!,

Honest as Abe, so far Sam & Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die! is the best episode of Sam & Max’s nearing-the-end first season. This is simply amazing writing with some of the best satirical political commentary without even mentioning specifics about either Democrats or Republicans along with longer and tougher gameplay.

Sam & Max was designed to be an experiment in "episodic gaming," one of those great ideas that no one seemed to be able to pull off successfully. With the arrival of Episode 4, perhaps it's time to pronounce the "experiment" a success. Episode 4 can be purchased and downloaded for $8.95 (the game is free with a Gametap subscription) for about 4-6 hours of entertainment, and while that's certainly worth the price of admission, the series has turned the corner where we'd just as soon recommend ordering the entire six-episode "Season One" package for $34.95. The remaining episodes are still in development, but the discount cost is justified merely by the four episodes currently in release -- especially Abe Lincoln Must Die!. It's the best in the series so far and a harbinger of great things to come. Honest.

Abe Lincoln Must Die!, interestingly enough, feels much more like a game that has been in development for years than Culture Shock, the actual first episode, did. It is expansive, it is brash, it is fearless, it is totally and completely devoid of any sort of moral compass or political correctness, and it is almost twice as long as its predecessor. Plus, it's still a Telltale Sam & Max game so it's gorgeous to look at and comes with another fantastic jazzy soundtrack from Jared Emerson-Johnson. For the first time in this series, it feels like the episodic format for Sam & Max has found its potential and hit one out of the park—and while I'm waiting to see if they can do it again in a month, I will have no problems playing through this delightful adventure once more.

Abe Lincoln Must Die! Is the best episode yet in the series, and fans of Sam & Max will love it. People with a sense of humor and who like adventure games, but have never experienced Sam & Max, will also love it.

So viel Satire erfordert Mut!

Without a doubt this is the best episode of Sam & Max's first season ... and I'm not just saying that because my birthday is one of the answers to a puzzle. Telltale Games has gone out of their way to create a solid adventure game that takes everything we love about the Sam & Max games and adds new characters and locations to the mix. If you've been waiting for a great episode then you can't do much better than Abe Lincoln Must Die. Regardless of whether you're a fan of the series or you've never actually played an adventure game before, Sam & Max Episode 4: Abe Lincoln Must Die should be mandatory gaming for anybody serious about having a good time.

Telltale took fans' reactions and made a longer, funnier and overall more exciting fourth episode. Fans definitely don't want to miss this.

If the question was “did Telletale listen?” the answer offered by Abe Lincoln Must Die is “as much as they could". The game lasts considerably longer than The Mole, The Mob and The Meatball did without compromising on the clever parodying the new series has become famous for. Episode 4 signifies a significant push in the right direction, leaving players already invested in the series optimistically anticipating the final two episodes and giving people watching cautiously from the outside reason to jump in and get their feet wet.

Sam and Max Abe Lincoln Must Die takes the series back to some familiar adventure gaming territory which is going to polarize people one way or another. It is definitely longer and more value for money than the first few, and it shows that the developers are starting to take risks. If this is an indication of how the season will close off, then it can only get better.

It wasn't too long ago that people speculated about an end to classic adventure games. After playing Episode 4 of the Sam & Max series, it seems quite the opposite now. The video game industry could definitely use more games like these. All hail Max.

The game has a nice array of jazzy tunes to escort Sam and Max to all their locations. The presidential theme follows them all around the White House. It gives a nice detective feel to it. Since this franchise is heading in a more episodic direction, it’s not that long of a game. But the overall feel of the game is worth the nominal price. It is like watching your favorite sitcom, but you’re playing it. But be warned, you may need to take a break, that little bunny’s voice can be annoying!

With four episodes released and two more to follow, I can only hope that the final two episodes can capture the same amount of fun, challenge, and ultimately humor as this one. While I again caution those who are not necessarily fans of the adventure genre, I do think this episode has far more mainstream appeal for gamers and recommend Sam and Max Episode 4 for everybody. After a rocky start, I feel Sam and Max is back on track and look forward to the final two episodes.

After playing the last episode, I have admittedly grown a bit skeptical about the episodic format of the new Sam & Max series. All the episodes are relatively short, and much of the content is reused from episode to episode. So, it is no surprise that this is basically what can be expected from the latest addition to Sam & Max’s adventure.

Sam & Max follows a formula, sure, but sitcom predictability is proving to be this series' secret strength -- it's rare to see a game conjure up such strong narrative continuity and familiarity in such short a time span. In Telltale's hands, recycled assets take on the aspect of recurring joys.

Quandary
Sam & Max: Abe Lincoln Must Die is another clever offering in this wacky off-beat series. I'm looking forward to seeing how far Telltale Games can push the absurd plotlines by the time the season ends with episode six.

Yahoo! Games
Is it sinking into a rut? Sure -- but then, it's not a problem when Lost features the same characters week in, week out, is it? It's practically in the nature of episodic content to sink into ruts. This is only a problem when taken to excess, and if Sam and Max was really churning out the same old jokes over and over again, we'd mark it down more harshly. That's not the case, though. Episode 4's brand of observational satire is new territory for the series, and the game's anthropomorphic stars are very much at home with it.

IGN
From a standpoint of humor and intelligent writing, Abe Lincoln Must Die! is our favorite Sam and Max episode to date. Yes, the recycled gags and locations and characters are getting more and more tiresome each time we see them, but the new content here is much closer to the Sam and Max we've been hoping to see than anything the series has delivered so far. We're still hopeful that we'll see more challenging puzzles in the future and more of a sense that the story's actually building to something worthwhile but, if the humor stays this good, we'll keep playing regardless.

Games Radar
Sam & Max Episode 4: Abe Lincoln Must Die! plays almost exactly like every other installment of the series thus far: you'll wander around, clicking on whatever looks interesting and navigating conversations with the goofy locals. No surprises there - the big difference is that this time, developer Telltale was able to take complaints and suggestions from fans into account, and so Episode 4 is a little longer, a little tougher and noticeably weirder than previous installments.

It doesn't take too long to finish the episode. In other words, the short lifespan of individual episodes is a drawback once again. But, even with all the glaring omissions related to mostly unchallenging puzzles and a generally repetitive setting, Telltale Games is successfully keeping up the pace and continually offers splendid dialogue and trademark wisecracks from the two main characters. Owing to these advantages, I honestly don't see why you shouldn't give it a whirl. In the end, it's worth the visit, given the game's excellent humor, brilliant characterization and, of course, the fetching price of $8.95 per episode. It's a fair bargain.

All in all Sam and Max Episode 4 is a very fun game for the buck. It’s a nice addition to the season arc, and likely my favorite of the four. At this time Telltale Games reports that they’re hoping to put out the other two episodes on a monthly schedule with the whole season available for purchase late spring. I know I’m saving a space for it on my gameshelf. If you haven’t started playing the season it may be worth waiting to get all six episodes at once, since you save a few pennies to do so, or if you have a slower connection the final season cut is rumored to be coming out on CD. Now, I have a country to save…again!

My notes on this game are starting to run dry; so it might be time to begin the conclusion of this review. Here, right here, is the conclusion, taken directly from my notes, actually: "THIS GAME IS GOOD AS OTHERS IF BETTER FOR LENGTH." So I think I'll just leave it at that. Refer to the above unstated facts if you need any further information.

With great-looking graphics, intelligent puzzles, and a well-written, funny script, Telltale's Sam & Max series has already had more hits than misses, so if you've been holding out on buying any of them until you're sure that the bulk of the series is worth playing, Abe Lincoln Must Die! is the green light you've been waiting for.

The puzzles may still be a little simple most of the time, and hearing Sam and Max saying exactly the same thing about certain objects as they have before is a little disappointing, but for your money you’re getting as entertaining a two-hour game session as you’d have hoped. Whether or not the final two episodes see the duo being set off in a plethora of new places and characters remains as much as a doubtful prospect as ever, but for the first time one can come away feeling that perhaps it’s not going to be such a bad thing after all.

Gamekult

The last three episodes were fun, but aren't necessary to have a great time with Abe Lincoln Must Die. If you're looking for a good laugh and a game that isn't short, but ends appropriately (and hilariously at that), then the famous dog and rabbitty thing have your ticket for one adventure of insane political satire and cramp-inducing humor.

Eurogamer.net (UK)
For a start, Telltale is taking a big risk by constantly recycling locations, characters and even the formula between episodes - because too much of the same thing quickly becomes boring. The Sam & Max episodes are still excellent fun when you're enjoying the 'new' parts of each episode; specifically some stand-out set pieces and dialogue. Sadly, I do feel my willingness to stand up for Telltale beginning to slip away thanks to the amount of padding we're having to digest with each passing month. Abe Lincoln Must Die is by no means a 'bad' episode, but it feels like the series is stuck in something of a rut already. I just hope it's not too late for the talented people at the studio to get it firmly back on track for the last two episodes and end this bold episodic experiment in style.

Dust off your magnum and doff your thinking cap because it's that time of the month again. Sam & Max are back with their monthly dose of cartoon capers, and this time it's political. Abe Lincoln Must Die is the fourth in Telltale's revitalising episodic treatment of the franchise, and while still riotously funny, treads much of the same ground as the last 3 adventures.
