Men Vivid Image har ändå lyckats pricka rätt med S.C.A.R.S. Den hetsiga och hetlevrade kampkänslan som gjorde Super Mario Kart till ett mästerverk infinner sig så fort man har vant sig vid kontrollen och sedan är det nästan lika svårt att sluta spela det här spelet som Nintendos klassiker. Med Multitap kan fyra spelare delta samtidigt, trots att grafiken då blir lite för suddig för att det ska vara riktigt roligt. Men med två deltagare samtidigt sköter sig grafiken ypperligt och ett roligare racingspel för två personer får man leta länge efter. Här blandas äkta rallykänsla med hetsigt vapenanvändande på ett sätt som vi inte har sett till sedan Super Mario Kart släpptes till Super NES för sex år sedan.

Trots att spelet är lätt att klara och saknar hemligheter är det ett väldigt trevligt tillskott till racing-genren. Är man ute efter ett Mario Kart till PlayStation bör man definitivt inte missa S.C.A.R.S.

In the end, S.C.A.R.S. turns out to be a mildly entertaining game that just lacks the overall addictiveness of other great games. There are not problems that are truly offensive and people who enjoy a good multiplayer game should give it a whirl. If you play your games solo, you may not find this game having enough staying power to keep you playing but it is definitely worth a rental to see for yourself.

From kids to grandparents this game should be a hit, I do people should check out a copy of S.C.A.R.S., you will not be disappointed, simply one of the most fun and entertaining racing games to come along in a long while.

It's not that I enjoy giving games bad reviews, I know how much time and effort the developers put into creating a game and it is obvious that the developers have spent a lot of time getting SCARS where it is now. Unfortunately, I'm not really impressed, something just didn't click, even after persuading some friends to have a go at the 4 player game none of the participants were tripping over each other to have another go. In fact, quite the opposite, it was an effort to finish a race and they were more likely to be running for the door than scrambling for a controller. So, the bottom line? Remembering that this is entirely my opinion and yours may vary, but I don't like SCARS. Nor did the three people I conned into playing with me, which is unusual. Oh Well!

Hokey premise or not, the game has a lot going for it. It's not incredibly deep but offers a lot of good, dumb driving/shooting fun. Fans of Wipeout XL and Super Mario Kart aren't going to forget what they drove in on, but they should still enjoy S.C.A.R.S. just the same.

There are only two real problems with S.C.A.R.S. First, the game lacks any multiplayer modes other than two-player split screen on a single computer. And second is the fact that a game with so much going for it still relies on so many over-used elements, such as the droning techno music and the hidden tracks. (One day, someone will invent a Futuristic Racing Construction Kit - just techno and a blue missile weapon - and make a cool million.) Apart from these two concerns, though, S.C.A.R.S. is a fast, fun ride.

Scars braucht kaum Eingewöhnung, ist actionsreich und bringt gut Geschwindigkeitsgefühl rüber – von der PC-Version hätte ich jedoch mehr erwartet. Die technischen Vorteile des PCs in Sachen Grafik und Sound wurden nicht genutzt, und der Multiplayer-Modus im Splitscreen verträgt nur noch zwei statt vorher vier Teilnehmer. Auf Standards wie Netzwerk-Unterstützung und Save-Option hat Ubi Soft überdies großzügig verzichtet.

S.C.A.R.S. really appeals to the mindless arcade shoot-em-up side of me, and I find myself as a result being unable to stop playing. It has a sense of raucous fun, and there is not the slightest attempt at any point to be anything like a serious racing simulation. If you are looking for a game of driving skill with sleek futuristic cars, where destruction plays a role but does not dominate, then I would steer your attention to Dethkarz. But if you want a nonstop blastfest with cute vehicles and a lighthearted devil-may-care attitude, then you cannot do better than S.C.A.R.S.

Auf Konsolen können die Spiele gar nicht bunt genug sein, auf dem PC ist man da meist deutlich dezenter. Bei S.C.A.R.S. wird mit dieser Tradition gebrochen, ein Screenshot bringt die Pracht gar nicht richtig rüber. Ähnlich auffällig wie diese künstlerische Gestaltung sind die Fahrzeuge, wenn auch die Unterschiede zwischen den einzelnen Tierrassen nicht immer ganz deutlich werden. Charakteristische Motorgeräusche gehen den Viechern zum Beispiel völlig ab, dabei drängt sich ein wenig Löwengebrüll oder Schlangengezischel doch förmlich auf. Ansonsten aber bietet S.C.A.R.S. durch je vier Pokale und Bonusautos genügend Langzeitspaß. Die Fahrphysik ist für einen Fun-Racer nicht übel und gibt Könnern viel Gelegenheit, Anfängern souverän davonzuziehen. Wenn Sie sich an der geringen Bodenhaftung und den leicht schwebenden Fahrzeugen nicht stören, die sogar beständig Kondensstreifen hinter sich herziehen, dürfen Sie zufrieden sein.

Pour conclure, SCARS est un bon jeu qui bénéficie d'une bonne réalisation, mais aurait pu être un hit incontournable s'il avait bénéficié d'une plus grande vitesse et d'une plus grande autonomie des véhicules.

It's pretty much "just another racer." There's better out there. It doesn't have the graphics to withstand games like PowerSlide and DethKarz and it just doesn't have the entertainment level I got from the preminent arcade racer Wacky Wheels. I'd suggest getting something else to waste time with. This one might be better off in the bargain bin, because it's just not a standout.

The PlayStation version of S.C.A.R.S. wasn't incredibly deep but offered a lot of good, dumb, driving/shooting fun and was at least worth checking out, but there really isn't much reason to look this title up over the rapidly growing number of futuristic racers on the N64.

However, if you set the difficulty to full (a requirement of Ubisoft's POD also, as S.C.A.R.S. uses an updated POD engine), turn the music volume to full, and are willing to be somewhat less than serious in your gaming, you might just find yourself enamored with S.C.A.R.S. for a while. It certainly fills a nice gap in the crowded racing market, one that can be appreciated by gamers of all ages.

Okay, so you pretty much get everything you'd expect to find in an arcade racing game - two-player split-screen (plus network stuff); Grand Prix, Challenge and Time Trial modes; five cars to start with, four more to unlock; slick, rocking/pumping soundtrack; wonderfully 'wacky', themed courses; and all the usual gubbins - but the overriding factor here is that SCARS is not worth recommending because there are far better driving games around so hey, why not play one of those instead...
