DM II also carries over a few annoying conventions from the original DM, such as the need to maintain light sources and supplies of food, as well as knocking off hit points when you run into the walls, as though this little accident was a form of combat. Although, there are other standard RPGs around, there's nothing like Dungeon Master II.

With hundreds of puzzles and monsters, there is plenty to be done in this adventureland. Is it worth spending the time playing with the clumsy controls? I say yes. With the very limited number of decent RPG's that are out there right now. DM II is one that well-worth playing.

All in all, the game is a good choice for dyed-in-the-wool RPG fans, but others will probably be put off by the frustrating controls and the involved plot.

About the only reason I can give the game as high a rating as I did is that the game's developers were obviously some bright people. The game is long and complex, with some tough puzzles to figure out along the way. And I was quite impressed with the attempt at a new way to fight in an RPG. Too bad the game's tremendous faults take away from this. DM2 is for only the most die-hard of RPGers -- just don't be surprised if it makes you find out you're less of a fan than you originally thought.
