Guardian Heroes is the true definition of a diamond in the rough. Sure, PlayStation had Wipeout, Resident Evil, or Metal Gear Solid, but what it never had was Guardian Heroes, and that is all that matters to me. So if you are willing, and able, to purchase this now pricey classic Sega Saturn title (the game has been seen on eBay going for as much as $125), Guardian Heroes is definitely worth every penny.

With the perfect blend of side-scrolling action and RPG elements. Treasure has once again made an incredible game. In fact, this might be their best offering yet. The huge sprites, countless levels of parallax and an unbelievable amount of enemies on screen at once (with almost no slow-down), totally blew me away. And when you add in the hidden characters, the 6 player vs. mode and the fact you can play beat the game a bunch of times without seeing every level, Guardian Heroes becomes my favorite Saturn game yet.

Treasure is a hardcore gamer's company, and that's a fact. They take classic gameplay and improve upon it. Guardian Heroes is a prime example of that. It delivers intuitive controls, great graphics, and is simply a blast to play.

Defunct Games
My first experience with this game, was back when it came out that the Saturn was still a serious (albeit failing) contender in the console race. My memory involves his picking this gigantic plant monster, with its whipping tentacles and biting teeth. I picked the little white bunny.

No doubt about it, Guardian Heroes is one the classic must-have games for the Saturn. Solid gameplay and the “choose-your-own-path” story lines make this game one of the greatest beat’em-ups ever, so if you see a price tag on it for sixty bucks or more, it’s no fluke. If you have a Saturn, get going to eBay and hunt this title down. If you don’t have one, now you have two reasons to go to eBay. However you do it, give Guardian Heroes a shot.

Game Revolution
The best thing about Guardian Heroes, the part that makes it revolutionary, are the dozens of possible paths in this game. Many times during your adventure you'll be presented with a choice of several options. The option you choose can determine the future of your game. This gives Guardian Heroes tremendous replay value. You may get a little sick of the early levels, but after that, they branch out to lots of multiple endings. With several characters to choose from and cooperative play for up to 6 people (with the multi-player adapter) this game should find its way off your shelf and into your Saturn for a long time to come.

This game is packed with a lot of gameplay and action! Some may find it too much like the Final Fight series, but there is a lot more to it. My one gripe is the levels that are short and seem to cram just a bit too much on the screen (especially later on) to really fight well. Still a very neat action title!
