For as long as it lasts though, it's a thrill a minute. The game pack comes with a 'Stunner', which explains the high price. For an extra thrill, pick up a second Stunner ($49.99 by itself) and bring a friend --- or use a gun in each hand.

With the exception of the music and voices (they're not 100% up to arcade standards), the game is so close to a 10, it's not funny. What is funny, are the looks of the people's faces as they walk by my office and see me blasting away at my monitor. Maybe I do take this game a bit too seriously. Maybe I do. Maybe I just don't care.

Regardless of the replay value, you have to own this game. It's a great addition to Sega's Saturn library and it's lots of fun. Play it without the gun and the challenge will increase dramatically. Virtua Cop is a thrilling virtual shootout...and so real, you expect to stop at a virtual donut shop.

Once again, a Sega conversion as close to the coin-op as is possible on Saturn. It's true the game is extremely short and can be beaten in 20 minutes, but...you get to kill people. You feel ultra-powerful wielding a gun and just blowing everyone (and everything - you can take out much of the scenery as well) away. Pure testosterone-pumping mindless fun. If you buy VC, buy the gun. It is bright orange, unlike the super-slick black Japanese model, but the game simply cannot be played without it.

Gun shooter fans should not miss this excellent Model 2 to home conversion for Saturn. Sega's AM2 programming team knows how to make games that stand the test of time and Virtua Cop definitely fits the bill...

Besides the bosses, you shoot the same bad guys over and over, and apparently they all shop for clothes at the same store. Enemies react differently depending on where they are shot, and I love it when they fall from high places. On the downside, the fact that there are only three stages diminishes the replayability of this game. Still, Virtual Cop is great fun while it lasts.

There's criminal activity going on down at the shipping docks and the V.C.P.D. has been called to investigate. Officers Michael Hardy Rage and James Cool Smarty are designated to the area. Armed with their bullet proof vests, targeting visors, and weapons, they speed towards the docks to inspect the situation. Thus starts Virtua Cop by Sega, an exciting 3D shooting game.

This is a surprisingly great translation from the arcade to a home system. I really like the arcade and did not find any inconsistencies between the two. The main problem with Virtua Cop is the length of the game. With only three levels, any fairly good gamer will be able to play through Virtua Cop in a short amount of time. The practice screens are fun for two people to compete against one another in. Due to the difficulty, try this one before you buy it.

Replay value is mixed for this game -- its great to play but more levels are needed and would have pushed the game up to a higher rating. Virtua Cop only has three levels but playing the same ones over and over can still be enjoyable. Players can choose to play the levels in any order as well, certainly a welcome feature. Get a friend with a second gun and have a blast blowing everyone and everything away.

Virtua Cop is one tough game to review. Like other "gun" games, Virtua Cop doesn't exactly scream innovation. But AM2 can be commended for making what was the first (and not the last) polygonal gun game.
