The Settlers III

Settlers 3 is een van de beste PC games ooit. De combinatie tussen Real Time Strategy-, Simulatie- en Godgame is gewoon heel sterk. Tel daar nog eens die cute graphics bij op en Starcraft mag terug de kast in. Een absolute must voor elke PC-gamer!

Das neue Aufbau-Epos spielt sich leichter als der Konkurrent Anno 1602, weil es keine Sackgassen gibt. Alle Waren kann ich früher oder später selbst produzieren, bei Anno bin ich in der Startphase oft auf Händler angewiesen. Dennoch verlangen auch die Siedler geschicktes Bauen, sinnvoll verteilte Lager und energisches Ausbreiten. Mich ärgert allerdings, daß ich nur in Multiplayer-Partien handeln darf. Davon abgesehen, haben die Mühlheimer wieder ein Aufbauspiel allererster Sahne hingelegt. Meine Empfehlung: kaufen!

Het is nog geen Starcraft, maar het realtime strategiegedeelte is, hoewel redelijk beperkt, toch indrukwekkender dan ik had verwacht. Een spelletje Settlers 3 speel je echter niet omwille van zijn RTS kwaliteiten. S3 Speel je in de eerste plaats omwille van de gezellige sfeer. Hetgeen de makers hier weer op het scherm toveren is zonder meer prachtig te noemen en zo'n stap vooruit t.o.v. S2 dat je haast geen raakpunten meer ziet.

Jag rekommenderar Settlers III åt alla strateger som gillar att bygga saker. De som tyckte om seriens första delar kommer nog att uppskatta förbättringarna. Nya spelare borde inte ha några problem att komma igång. Blue Byte har lyckats än en gång!

Settlers III is a fun game to play and there is a lot of strategy involved. This is a real improvement over Settlers II and the additions available and to come will keep this game fresh. To succeed you will need to know what to build and when. The battles are a little hard to control and the computer did not seem to make the same choices in the battles that I would have. I wanted more control over who and where my forces attacked in the battles. The control over your villagers and construction is very good. The cartoon quality of the game adds to the charm and enjoyment. I am looking forward to the addition of the Amazon race that was announced at E3 this year. I had the pleasure of seeing the early works and I am looking forward to what they will add to the game. Well done, Blue Byte; let me know when the Amazons arrive.

If it's C&C or Warcraft you're looking for, you won't find it here. Even with the pace sped up over previous Settlers, it remains a much less hurried experience. But for strategy gamers who have grown weary of the increasingly intense pace of today's RTS experience, this slower pace could be just the ticket - it strikes a nice balance between the action-oriented mainstream titles and more thoughtful fare like Caesar III, and as such it's a welcome addition to the genre.

Zum dritten Mal gehen knuffige Männchen aus Mülheim daran, die deutschen Rechner zu besiedeln. Im Handgepäck haben sie ihren gewohnten Fleiß, eine Portion des typischen Wuselcharmes und einige lang erwartete Neuerungen.

The game was done nicely and looked good. With the small drawback of the choppy graphics, everything else worked well and supported the game in a good manner. It was fun and entertaining, and could occupy your attention for a long time. Bottom line- If you like strategy and would like a break from all the military war games, then this one is for you.

This game can be heartily recommended to strategy gamers who have not played the previous Settlers games, but previous Settlers veterans might be a little disappointed in that, in spite of the improvements, the game feels much the same as before.

Overall, Settlers III is an entertaining and brain-heavy game that is unfortunately hampered by a number of problems. It's not much different from Settlers or Settlers II, but that's not really a bad thing since the other two were solid games. It does have a high learning curve, though, so don't expect to jump right into this one unless you've played the previous versions.

For a game that succeeds so well as a single player game, it really is a disappointment that the multiplayer is so bad. Settlers III is an interesting, fairly innovative real-time strategy game, so if playing against the computer is your bag, well then baby, get this game. On the other hand, if you crave the excitement of biological opponents, don't settle for this one.

The only real problem with Settlers III is that, despite all the additions, it doesn't really play much differently than Settlers II. With some innovative missions and some more integral changes (or at least better-integrated changes), Settlers III would have been a much better game. Those who love the Settlers formula will enjoy it, but those who are unfamiliar with it will likely find it to be a moderately fun multiplayer game and an immensely repetitive single-player game.

Par dessus tout, vous aimez les parties solo qui durent des heures pendant lesquelles on peut faire des mots croisés ? Alors ne chercher plus, bienvenue dans le monde merveilleusement acidulé de The Settlers. Que ceux à qui le nom ne dit rien du tout ou rappelle de mauvais souvenirs, avancent un œil curieux et que les fans du second volet se préparent à du changement, la donne a changé.
