Description
It seems that the relationship between Tex Murphy, the private investigator in post-apocalyptic San Francisco, and his sweetheart Chelsee finally entered a happy phase. Tex is going on a date with Chelsee, they talk about their feelings and their future, and Chelsee asks Tex to tell her the story of his first case as a PI. This is where you begin to play the game - as young Tex, still an idealist, full of energy and with none of the ironic bitterness of his later years.
A beautiful girl enters his office. Her name is Sylvia Linsky, and she asks him to investigate a case. Her father, Carl Linsky, has apparently committed suicide. But although there seems to be nothing suspicious in the circumstances of his death, Sylvia tells Tex she is convinced it was a murder. Tex' first investigation, that will influence his entire life, is about to begin...
The general story line of "Overseer" is the same as in
Mean Streets, the first game in Tex Murphy series, but it is told in a much more detailed way, and the gameplay system is similar to those of
Under a Killing Moon and
The Pandora Directive. You move around in a fully 3D environment, which you can view from different positions and angles at any time. Dialogues and cut-scenes feature live actors. There are plenty of hard puzzles to solve in "Overseer", but in-game help is available if you find them too difficult.

Trivia
Chris Jones, the game's producer and "Tex" himself (he played the part of the hero throughout the last 3, video using, games), always wanted to continue the series. That's the reason Overseer's ending demands continuation and explanation, one that never came. Or, i should say, never came in the form of a game. November 2001 saw the publication of episode 1 of "The Tex Murphy Radio Theater" on a Tex Murphy fan site, the first chapter of an episodic radio drama created by Chris Jones and Aaron Conners, another original developer, detailing what happens after Overseer.
