Shivers 2: Harvest of Souls

Without a doubt, the game has certain negative aspects. The tangram-style puzzles can become tiresome, having to revisit locations you have already explored can be annoying. You will not see much of it, but the acting also most definitely leaves something to be desired. Nevertheless, the positive aspects of the game manage to outweigh its problems. If you enjoy adventure games with a scary theme and an emphasis on the puzzles, consider giving Shivers II a try. It may not be the best game that will ever grace your computer, but Harvest of Souls has plenty of fun to offer as you try and uncover the tragic mystery behind the disappearance of your friends.

Shivers 2 is a game that I found exciting. It captured my attention (once I figured out what I was doing) and proceeded to keep it from there. I enjoyed the challenge this game provided, and I especially liked the whole "creepy feeling" that was prominent throughout. Shivers 2: Harvest of Souls is definitely on my list of recommendations and has earned itself a score of 84.

Als je aanleg hebt voor het oplossen van puzzels, over een min of meer logisch verstand beschikt, normale zenuwen, gevoel voor muziek en voldoende cash, eventueel (maar niet noodzakelijk) nog aangevuld met een Internetaansluiting voor het opzoeken van oplossingen, wat zit je dan nog verder te lezen? De Sierra hit van 1997 ligt nu al in de winkel.

In Shivers Two: Harvest of Souls, Sierra has struck just the right cord between rewarding puzzle gaming, detective adventuring and plot. The vehicle for this is an eerie, tight little mystery surrounding your character that has come to Cyclone, Arizona to meet up with his friends, members of a band known as Trip Cyclone. Right away, when you first meet the hotel clerk, you realize this isn't just your ordinary vacation hideaway.

Shivers II is a solid adventure game. The non-linear gameplay and different endings made the game even more fun and add the potential for replayability, something rare in most adventure games. After all, once you solve the game and know how it ends, why play again . . . at least, until now. The graphics in this game are outstanding and very well done. I think most gamers will enjoy the folk rock music from Trip Cyclone as well. There is an awful lot to discover in Shivers II, and while I never ran into any puzzles that were ridiculously difficult, I had a tough time making my way through the game. Ok, ok, I admit it . . . I used the walkthrough occasionally. I couldn't help it, I got stuck a couple of times. So sue me. If you are looking for a solid adventure game with strong gameplay and difficulty elements, I highly recommend trying Shivers II: Harvest of Souls.

В общем, новое творение "Сьерры" можно смело рекомендовать всем любителям головоломок под мистическим соусом. Тем, кто любит развлечения поживее, в этом месяце, увы, не повезло.

Really, it's great. It has my approval. And I haven't made one serious complaint ... I'll have to remedy that forthwith. Sadly, I do have to say that there is something to report in this respect, a triple whammy that appears late in the game. Not only is there a timed puzzle, but it appears immediately after a disk swap and a cut sequence that can't be skipped ... and there is no option for saving. Miss out on this puzzle and you won't get the happy ending. To try again means two disk changes and watching the cut scene once more, so if it takes a few tries it will test your patience.

Harvest of Souls er et godt spil, som er blevet en del forbedret siden forgængeren. Fans af 3D-adventures med hovedvægten lagt på puzzles kan godt finde pengepungen frem, og begive sig af sted til Cyclone - hvis de altså tør!

Es scheint, als wäre die Testphase eines fertigen Spiels neuerdings zum scharfen Ansehen der Master-CD verkommen. So bleibt Harvest of Souls ein Fall für Sammler und hartgesottene Knobelfreunde, die zum einen gut Englisch sprechen, zum anderen starke Nerven haben und eiserne Motivation verspüren, an die Untergrenze des Durchschnitts abzutauchen.

A thoroughly enjoyable game that stays true to its predecessor, but doesn’t cut any new ground in terms of game play.

Much as it tries, Shivers II just doesn't convey any sort of real atmosphere and has virtually no suspense whatsoever in the execution of its plot (with the possible exception of the rather annoying end sequence). It's regrettable that Sierra didn't try to add anything new to the game to make it rise above the heads of its competitors. The high difficulty level of much of the game will surely make it worthwhile for hard-core fans of puzzle games, but definitely not those looking for true adventure; and when based strictly on its brain-teasing merit, the game is recommendable, as it will definitely prove to be a challenge to complete.

Sierra On-Line has clearly listened to the many criticisms by gamers on Shivers during the design of this sequel. Based on a brand new and more congruent story, Shivers Two: Harvest of Souls succeeds in expanding on the elements that have made its predecessor a sleeper hit. The unique nonlinear and non-repetitive puzzle design, complete freedom of exploration, and the use of a life essence bar have all been updated. Players can even chat online on the internet with others for clues from within the game. These efforts by the design team clearly contribute to the delights of fans of the series who will this sequel a joy to play.

Gruslig, gruslig: Man schlurft durch die Geisterstadt und löst an jeder Tür aufregende Schiebepuzzles. Und was verbirgt sich hinter den Türen? Überraschung - noch mehr Schiebepuzzles! Wen schon bei 11th Hour, Shine, Lighthouse und Shivers sein Geld nicht gereut hat, mag damit zufrieden sein - ich bin's aus genannten Gründen (Grafik, Puzzles, Spieldesign) eher nicht.
