Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams

Players return to the eerie town of Silent Hill in an new story with new characters. Players assume the role of James Sunderland, who receives a cryptic letter from his wife - who has been dead for three years -- beckoning him to meet her in Silent Hill, a place that holds great meaning for the couple. The mystery of the letter frightens and confuses James, compelling him to investigate the surreal horror and all-too-real danger that awaits him.

Gameplay is similar to the first game. You walk around in the town of Silent Hill and collect weapons, health and puzzle-solving objects in an unlimited inventory. A radio alerts you when enemies are near. While the basic concept is the same, this is a part of town that was unexplored in the previous game and the weapons and enemies are mostly new as well. Of course, the graphical and audio presentation is given a major overhaul for the new platform.

Restless Dreams contains all of the content of the original release of Silent Hill 2 and adds several pieces of new content. The most significant is a new short scenario called "Born from a Wish" where players take control of Maria from her first moments right up to where she first appears in the main game. Also included is a sixth ending to the main scenario and a minor feature that allows you to turn off the graphical effect that makes the game look like it was shot on cheap film stock.

James Sunderland is a haunted man. While sitting at home one day, he receives a letter, signed by "Mary", the name of his wife who died three years prior due to a rare and fatal virus. James opens the letter and begins to read, not knowing if it's a joke or what.

I'll be waiting for you there, in Silent Hill. In our 'special place'.

How can James' dead wife be waiting in Silent Hill, the town they spent many vacations in? Not knowing what to expect, James heads to Silent Hill, the quiet, lakeside town.

Upon his arrival, he notices that the town is enshrouded in a thick fog, making it hard to see. James walks into the nearby bathroom, and takes a long look at himself in the mirror.

What am I doing here? How could Mary possibly be here?

With these questions, and more, James sets out, in search of his wife.

You play as James Sunderland, a man who is suddenly thrust into an unbelievable nightmare. You must search the town of Silent Hill, from the hospital to the amusement park, from the hotel to the apartments. Every inch of the town is at your disposal. You must explore, investigate, talk to people (some friendly, some not), read various documents and more to help you in your quest to find Mary.

At your disposal is a small array of weapons, all realistic. You can use a wooden stick, a steel pipe, a shotgun, a handgun, a knife or a hunting rifle. You must solve various puzzles in one of three "Riddle Difficulty" modes.

Will James find his wife? Will he escape the town? Will the answers he seek require the ultimate sacrifice?
