Worth Playing
So is Silverfall "worth playing?" Absolutely. It's gorgeous (if you have a high-end system), it's fun, and it has some truly unique features that set it apart from the pack. With time, there might even be some patches that clear up the remaining oversights, like the interface and the auto-save. However, even with these issues in place, I recommend Silverfall. When you think about it, this is the first steampunk title since Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, and for that reason alone, it deserves all the love it can get!

As I said, if you enjoyed Diablo or Titan Quest you're going to like this one. If you're not interested in another clone, even a pretty one, then this may not be for you.

Good Game
Lets face it, RPG’s are all about having a character that looks sweet. With that in mind, Silverfall’s experiment with a cel-shaded RPG is a success. This is multiplied by some BEAUTIFUL environments, and in spite of SERIOUS flaws, they didn't bottleneck the experience. I'm giving it a 7.5/10.

PC Powerplay

Now, I mentioned Jessica Simpson, didn't I? There must be a reason for that, and there is. While the story line is a little lame and obvious, the character design is amazing, as are the abilities to acessorize (okay 'equip') your character with various kinds of weaponry and whatnot. Much care has been taken with character, monster and environment design, so even if it is all a bit boring and repetitive, and insists on making obvious statements, it sure is pretty to look at. Just don't marry it.

The game does have some stumbles but is generally an entertaining game that, while story driven, does have a certain amount of charm as well as a decent story. The fact that the character design is so open-ended makes the game very customizable as far as the experience is concerned. While not a top-tier game, the title still manages to make for an enjoyable experience.

Good Game
Well, for one thing, I loved having to run naked to the spot you died to get your gear, with 20 enemies chasing you... Look, this type of game has been out for a long time. But that also means they've been perfecting the genre... and Silverfall brings enough new stuff to the table to not be the same old bag. Newcomers to the genre will find it a real treat - On the other hand, if you're like me and you hammered Diablo 2 to death, you're probably still recovering and should steer clear of this one. I'm giving it a 7/10.

Silverfall je poctivý clickfest, obohatený o niektoré prvky „klasických“ RPG, ktorý má svojou príjemnou, až oddychovou hratelnosťou, čo ponúknuť každému hráčovi. Škoda kratšej hernej doby (možnosť rozohrať hru opäť na vyššej obtiažnosti samozrejme je) a malej hráčskej základne pre online hranie (takmer nemožné + problémy s kompatibilitou verzii), každopádne dávam zaslúžených 70%. České titulky a najnovší patch v cene.

There's nothing tragically wrong with Silverfall, but nothing incredible about it either. If it's escapism you want, a way to immerse yourself in another world and let the cares and worries of real life drift away, then perhaps Silverfall will be found wanting. However, if you're looking for an enjoyable hack-and-slash epic to relieve a little tension running quests for idle NPCs and nailing Zombie Trolls with a 90lb Mechanical Warhammer for an ultimately fairly hollow reward then this may just be the game you're looking for.

Armchair Empire, The
Unreasonable nostalgia aside, Diablos I and II become more impressive to me with time as I watch Silverfall and other recent titles (ie. Titanquest) try and fail to capture the same delicate balance of simplicity and immersive fun that Blizzard cooked up more than a decade ago. I give Silverfall a 7 out of 10 for what it is, even though I’m extra disappointed by what it isn’t. And I say in conclusion (with great sorrow and apologies to the late Lloyd Bentsen): “Silverfall, I played Diablo II. I knew Diablo II. Diablo II was a friend of mine. And Silverfall [sigh], you’re no Diablo II.”

When I first started playing, I was impressed with the game, as it seemed the first real advancement since the Diablo genre was created years ago. After one play-through, though, I’m done with it. There are, of course, options to play on two higher skill levels once you’ve completed the basic game, but with no new skills or interesting treasures, and combat that’s all the same, there’s no point. The game never crashed on me, which is a plus, and there are at least some hints of new ideas here, but for the most part this is a forgettable action RPG, one to play through once and put on the shelf.

If you are a fan of action RPGs the by all means give Silverfall a look. It certainly isn’t a bad game, but games like these are an acquired taste and are very difficult to recommend without first referring people to similar and ultimately better alternatives.

I found myself somewhat enjoying Silverfall, but I’d never consider placing this title on anyone’s “to buy” list. There’s an interesting world to explore, if only the developers had put a little more time in adding the extra spark that makes players want to endlessly churn away at the hordes of enemies. Perhaps those who absolutely need more Diablo-esque hack n’ slash will find a few hours of entertainment here, but most would do well to give this one a pass, or at least wait until it hits the bargain bins.

Silverfall is the latest in a long line of action role-playing games, and it's brimming with possibilities. It's got neat cel-shaded character models, a whole lot of cool monsters, and the tried-and-true clickfest Diablo formula going for it. It could have used a whole lot of buff and polish, though, and sloppy design elements wiggle their way into almost every aspect of the game. If you like action RPG's, you'll get a good amount of gaming out of Silverfall, but you won't find any of the slickness of Dungeon Siege II or Titan Quest.

But there are so many little things that are wrong - and more than a couple of major ones - that it is hard to recommend Silverfall for anyone who didn't absolutely love the demo. If the controls frustrated you then, they will continue to grate on you in the full game. Getting to flesh out your character skills is very nice, but it is not enough to carry the game. The plot is also fun to see through but as is often the case it is more of an excuse to carry on than a driving force for the game. With some good and some bad elements, the overall picture is decidedly average.

Play Magazine
Despite its unique moral compass, gameplay-altering factions, solid multiplayer and competent combat, Silverfall isn’t terribly convincing when it commits a number of miscues. There are better titles on the shelf (and on this page) for fans of the form to be spending their money on.

If feels like I've focused a lot on a couple of negative points which, as I said, is perhaps unfair on the good parts of Silverfall. However, by making the start of the game so poorly balanced and infusing the whole experience with the control scheme from hell, Monte Cristo ensured that it took a certain amount of will power to play through far enough to get to the good bits which surely isn't good enough. Silverfall isn't far off being a really good game; it's just unfortunate that the bits it gets wrong cast a shadow over the whole experience. Anyone happy to live with its idiosyncrasies will probably get a lot of enjoyment out of Silverfall, for the rest of us it sits firmly on the ever growing pile of disappointingly missed opportunities.

Cheat Code Central
Silverfall utilizes online gameplay without leaving the single player behind, instead it leaves the online player behind. For a traditional action RPG, Silverfall achieves greatness, flaws and all. The story is compelling enough to keep the interest of the story driven player, while adequately supplying the action enthusiast plenty to do. Silverfall is worth checking out just so you can say that you started at the ground level of a title that will surely grow and advance in future installments.

Eurogamer.net (UK)
In a lot of ways, Silverfall is a very nice bowl of cornflakes - honey nut, in fact. There are some delicious morsels to get your teeth around in here, like a character development system which provides a superb degree of flexibility and customisation and AI-controlled companions who actually act intelligently. The graphics are lovely, even if in many places it's pretty obvious that the development team has been spending a lot of time in World of Warcraft, which can give you a certain sense of deja vu as you explore the world around you. Even the storyline, often a very weak point for fantasy-themed RPGs, is really very good.

Game Shark
It’s tough to break new ground in this aging genre and while Silverfall certainly has its share of admirable qualities, you need to be the type of gamer that craves this style of game in order to get much out of it. Perhaps this genre has simply run its course, but Silverfall proves the old adage: no one out Diablos Diablo.

IGN
This game needs a few more patches before it can really be called stable. Considering it doesn't really do anything new for the action-RPG genre, and screws up aspects of the genre games released a decade ago were doing quite well, there's little reason to involve yourself. It gets most of the fundamentals right, however, so it's not a complete waste. It can be a visually appealing game when the framerate isn't having epileptic fits, and offers standard action-RPG gameplay, but that doesn't excuse its numerous flaws. Go play the Titan Quest expansion instead.
51
Game Chronicles
Silverfall is a title that had some potential, but suffers from a lack of quality control and an abundance of poor development decisions. There really isn’t any reason to get the game, so save your money for PC upgrades so you can actually support Neverwinter Nights 2. That's an RPG worth playing.
50
Boomtown
This is indicative of the main problem that Silverfall suffers. It supplements being a painted-by-numbers Diablo clone with some interesting ideas, but they are either not fully thought through or overshadowed by poor implementation and lack of explanations elsewhere. The overall impression is of a game which was created in pieces like a puzzle, and then put together by someone who didn’t quite have the full picture on the front of the box.

Gamer.nl

GameSpy
Playing through one campaign of Silverfall, a French-made Diablo-clone that has a twist of Arcanum, reminded me of getting through a viewing of Equilibrium. That is, they both have boring-bordering-on-terrible beginnings, but once you make your way through a significant chunk of the product, once the gun kata or the steam-powered dragon make an appearance, the quality increases a bit, moving from terrible and into merely mediocre. Sometimes even decent.

G4 TV: X-Play
To put it politely, Silverfall was released much too soon and (one can only hope) with too little tester feedback. Fix the navigation system, ease back on the creature auto-leveling, patch the game, and you’d be closer to something that rated three or even four stars than this unfortunate mess of a Diablo wannabe.

GotNext
If the bar of entry to creating a killer action-RPG game wasn't already high enough it's certainly obscenely high now. Which makes reviewing Silverfall all the harder. If it had come out before Titan Quest it would have faired far better. As it stands now I can't recommend this game to even a weekend-fan of this genre.

Gameslave UK
There are some more details to this game, such as a poorly implemented skill tree, and the chance to move your alliance between the forces of technology and the forces of nature, but this like everything else is clumsily done. It would be reassuring to find out that this game was produced in the midst's of massive company layoffs, or was rushed out for tax reasons, as any production team that wilfully leaves their product so poorly finished deserves to be dissolved entirely. Action RPG is probably my favourite genre of all, and given the lengthy play hours thus title offers, I would have dearly loved to enjoy this game, but I just don't have it in me.

1UP
Half the time, the game stops working altogether. Critical buttons disappear from the interface bar and take a reload to fix, items inexplicably vanish from your inventory, clicking on inaccessible areas makes you bolt in the opposite direction, and -- not a bug, but annoying -- vegetation occasionally "blocks" your hits so you'll waste several precious clicks hitting nothing (and, joy of joys, dying). Diablo clone? Don't flatter it.
