But for the control freak's ultimate turn-on, there's SimCity 2000. As mayor/demigod of your own electronic burg, you not only build an intricate web of roads, schools, and hospitals, you also get to destroy them by unleashing hurricanes, tidal waves, and riots. Of course, you also have to deal with bond payments, unemployment, and annoying city council members, but 2000's 3-D graphics and not-mentioned-in-the-manual surprises are so adorable you almost don't mind.

SimCity is a game that will be challenging to you even after you played it a thousand times. That is why it’s invaluable in the gaming world. As for the graphics, as I mentioned at the beginning of the review, they are simply amazing. The screen resolution will stretch to amazing 640x480 (this is a DOS game, remember?) that will give you unseen detail. All the buildings and scenery are drawn very nicely so you will enjoy just by sitting back and watching your city come to life. The learning curve is pretty steep so if you're playing it for the first time, have patience. It will pay off in the end. I think I've made my point – 5 mark, without a doubt!

Great new graphics and a ton of extra features add depth to a classic game. It can take an awfully long time to get to a stage where you can enjoy some of the game's new options. One of those rare games that presents a different challenge each time you play.

640x480-resoluution 256-värinen grafiikka on uskomattoman pikkutarkkaa ja todenmukaista. Taustalla soivat, rasittavat renkutukset saa luojan kiitos kytkettyä pois päältä. Äänitehosteet voivat sitä vastoin olla päällä ilomielin. Pelin monimuotoisuus ja syvyys liimaavat pelaajan koneen ääreen kuukausiksi.

Although I initially found Sim City to be like taking a crash course in accountancy, I very quickly learned from my mistakes and on my fourth attempt at constructing a city I was fairing quite well and managing to balance the books, just. The setting of taxes against demand proved a successful move while the realization that a spend, spend, spend policy will only result in bankruptcy. Sometimes you must sit back and wait for a tax rise to take effect but this doesn't make the game boring, as there is always something to do in the mayors office. An excellent strategy game that will open your eyes to the world of politics.

This must be heaven: two of my favorite sims to the 32-bit systems. Sim City 2000 is an engrossing, complex and exciting (for reasons I haven't figured out yet) game that will keep you glued to the boob tube for heinous amounts of hours. Build and run your own metropolis, controlling crime, pollution and safeguarding against disaster in order to keep your city a thriving community.

The graphics look okay and the sound effects are fun, but the music is repetitive. The control interface is awkward, especially if you're used to the mouse or keyboard from the computer version. Despite the flaws, if you love sims, you'll be happy to see this cart, It's real Sim Fun.

More Sim fun, this time with an expanded menu and futuristic outlook. The expanded menu, however, means more detailed gameplay, which bogs Sim City 2000 down a little, especially if you enjoyed the fun of Theme Park. Still, fans of the City series will enjoy this latest incarnation. If you have a head for population control, Sim City is fun no matter what century it's in.

Create your own city and provide municipal services for a bunch of little people who will desert you faster than rates leaving a sinking ship if you don't keep 'em happy! The interface screens will take some patience, but it's still a great game.

This is the most popular sim of all time, cranked up to a high-tech gloss and packaged with all the popular expansion sets. The original SimCity gave players the opportunity to create and oversee the growth of a living city as well as all its problems: crime, pollution, zoning demands, power outages, traffic foul-ups, and the occasional tornado, nuclear meltdown, or wandering monster from the sea. Less a “game” in the usual sense of the word than a sort of electronic ant farm, SimCity let players see how they fared as mayor, architect and town council.

The replay value is certainly high as long as you have a good imagination. Building each city is a new experience. Players can also select to play scenarios that are based on real life. SimCity 2000 is an entertaining game, about as realistic as you can get, and has many options to keep you busy.

If you don't feel like building a burg from scratch, the CD is loaded with preconstructed cities and scenarios for you to mess with. There's even a "disaster mode" that rewards players for restoring a city after it's been hit with a catastrophe. All well and good, but SimCity 2000 has one big drawback: it plays like crap with the Saturn controller.

And it's not exactly a perfect port, either. It's not clear whether it was a technical problem or a design decision to make the game less cluttered, but a few elements were removed from the original's gameplay. Players can't create subways or manage underground sewer systems, for example. And the land masses have been completely flattened so players can no longer work on rising hills or falling basins. It's a few less elements to worry about while managing the city, sure, but it does affect a buying decision if fans of the original SimCity 2000 are looking for a direct portable conversion of one of their favorite games.

Sim City 2000 for the PC was an awesome game. Its predecessor, Sim City, laid out the groundwork for an entire genre, and the sequel took the original and expanded it in multiple directions. The land you were building on was no longer flat like the original, and you had to take into consideration things like plumbing. These are features that did not make it into the GBA version of the game, meaning that already from the start, this is more like Sim City 1.5.

The Sega Saturn version of the game is just as good as the computer counter part, but it doesn't quite work due to the poor control, and the insane amount of memory each City takes up (read: all the internal memory). Avoiding those faults, however, the game is just amazing. I have never wanted to be Mayor before, but if I ever do, this is the game for me!

The screen size and button layout of the GBA prove to be limitations that this otherwise respectable port of SimCity 2000 cannot overcome.

SimCity 2000 is a nice eye candy, but without any substance. The features that made the PC version so addictive and well balanced are all gone, and what remains is only a shell of the original game, which is little more than an unresponsive electronic sandbox. The lack of social engineering and the amount of bugs hurt the game much more than the missing hills and underground. Moreover, the title suffers from the inadequate GBA interface and limited game cartridge space, because of which additional features, such as sound, were removed. This sloppy port of a classic PC game is not worth your consideration until its price drops into single digits.

Overall I think this game needed some serious Beta Testing before it was sent out. If they hired me to glance through the game, I’d given them 15 or 20 suggestions that would’ve made this game a great joy to have on hand. Sadly that isn’t the case and this is a game that I will never play again. However if someone decides to make a faithful version of the original Sim City for the GBA, I’ll play that game until I get fired from my job for playing video games instead of working.
