But really, this is all about The Simpsons. Hit & Run is not just bogus shovelware with the license slathered on—it’s a full-fledged, genuine Simpsons production created by some of the show’s writers, featuring virtually every minor character you can think of and jam-packed with hundreds of references to past episodes—enough to keep Comic Book Guy himself scouring the official episode guide for weeks. How can you not love a game that has Apu declaring, “I’m a lean, mean Vindeloo machine!” while racing or has poor, pathetic Ralph Wiggum counting down “One...one...one...go!” for race? The Simpsons Hit & Run is relentlessly funny, constantly entertaining, and a total joy to play. For Simpsons fans (and is there anyone who isn’t one?), it’s nothing less than a must-have game.

Finally here is a Simpsons game that will appease both gamers and Simpsons fans. It might not unseat the mighty GTA franchise but for younger gamers who don't have to worry about excessive violence (it doesn't get any worse than a typical Itchy & Scratchy episode) this is perfect. It will also appeal to those old enough to enjoy the more mature titles, and to those who want to enjoy Simpsons humor that is much funnier than even the most recent seasons.

This is a solid game. Only minor things keep me from giving this a higher rating. It's a smile-making good time. There is so much to explore and experience, there is (almost) no end to the gaming fun. I played for hours at a stretch, yet I never got bored. I would start a mission, then get lost in some distraction side-adventure. I enjoyed probing back yards and streets looking for bounty and fun. Talking to the various neighbors and "enemies" was fun to do. I spent a LOT of time just listening to Barney on the sidewalk! I still can't believe he gave up drinking! If you need a fun escape from shooters and uniformed sports action, give this a try.

The Simpsons Hit & Run is very fun and very funny; it deftly satirizes Grand Theft Auto while being almost as entertaining, and even improves on several gameplay aspects of GTA (instant mission restarts, a superior guidance system, and an easily accessible collection of vehicles).

What it all boils down to is this. Simpsons: Hit & Run is a solid, fun game that really does make great use of a good license. Springfield is great, the characters are great, the writing is great, the vehicles are great, and there are so many references to things from the show that fans might explode on contact. Yes, the game could have tried a little harder with creating some new, innovative missions, but when everything else is so good, there's no reason to complain. If you're even slightly interested, give it a rent; if you're a diehard Simpsons fan, this should be at the top of your list of things to get. Even if you've only seen an episode or two of the show, you're bound to have some fun with it. This is the Simpsons game we've all been waiting for.

Simpsons Hit & Run is a great game that, while not at all very original, does a fine job of emulating the feel of the show on which it’s based. The game is brimming with atmosphere and references that will make hardcore fans of the show giggle with delight. Simpsons fans both casual and hardcore should check this game out.

Overall, The Simpsons Hit & Run should appeal to a huge portion of gamers, including fans of the show, fans of GTA, and fans of fun videogames in general. Never before has Springfield and its many off-the-wall inhabitants been so faithfully reproduced in interactive digital form. Those who have been anxiously awaiting the next sequel in the GTA series or just pining for a Simpsons game that doesn’t suck should definitely check this one out.

Simpsons Hit & Run may be the best GTA-style game that the GameCube library is going to get. It’s not just worthy by default, though. The levels are huge, the show references are abundant, and it looks and plays solid. A lack of mission variety – chase this, collect that – is the only thing I have against it, but it goes with the territory. This thing’s sweeter than that beer with candy pieces in it; y’know, Skittlebrau.

Simpsons Road Rage, which released around Christmas 2001 on all platforms, was a great way to show off Springfield in all its glory. It was essentially a Crazy Taxi clone in the Simpsons universe. This time, the powers that be picked a better game to mimic, in the form of Grand Theft Auto. The results are nothing short of astonishing. It’s nice to see Springfield get the respect it deserves.

In short, this game is in many ways a love letter to Simpson fans, and is generally funny in a way that even those who are only vaguely familliar with the series can still appreciate. And while the game itself may not win any awards for originality, it is still a solid title that's fun to play, and it does its license proud. What more could you ask?

Overall The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a great game. It could use a few more levels and Xbox Live support to download some extras and multi-player support. If you would be able to have more freedom in the buildings it would have been nice. These are minor things and overall The Simpsons: Hit & Run is a very fun and enjoyable game.

With a bit more polish, it could've been a surefire winner. Regardless, it's fun for any age and an absolute must-have for Simpsons fans.

With a healthy mission-based storyline and tons of collectables, this is a game with a good lifespan, and one that is easy to introduce non-gamers to. Good graphics and excellent voice work really brings the town of Springfield to life, and Grand Theft Auto 3 inspired gameplay is a known winner. Simpsons Hit and Run is not only one of the best Simpsons games ever, it's a pretty good game on its own.

Overall, The Simpsons Hit and Run was a major improvement from it's predecessor, Road Rage. The graphics are nicely done (though the frame rate can be troublesome here and there), the voices and music are just right, and the game play is really quite entertaining. I'd recommend this title to all Simpsons fans, new or old, and anyone who was a fan of the GTA series. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is available for Playstation 2, GameCube and Xbox - you can't go wrong with any version.

XboxNext Level Gaming
The best thing about this title is that it was clearly made for the fans of the show. This game (much like this review) is chock full of Simpsons references. Aside from all of the background stuff, the costumes and the vehicles, there are gags added into every level (like the catapult that shot Rex Banner out of town), and cards to collect. That's right, scattered across each stage are cards that, once collected, show an item of Simpsons history, including the episode it was found in, and memorable quotes about the item (for example, the Krusty Home Pregnancy Test). You may want to rent it first, just to make sure its not something you're going to get sick of really quick.

Hit & Run is the game that Simpsons fans have been pining for ever since the days of Bart vs. The Space Mutants. It creates the most accurate representation of the world of Springfield ever put into a game, and it manages to make the gameplay surrounding it quite a lot of fun. Additionally, the game's overall sense of humor is delightfully self-referential, and any hardcore Simpsons enthusiast should have a blast exploring the various levels and pointing out the numerous obscure locations and characters that pop up.

It's been over 14 years now since the weekly television debut of The Simpsons, and over that period of time, more than a dozen video games have carried the license of the seemingly inviolable Simpsons franchise. However, with perhaps the sole exception of Konami's 1991 arcade action game, The Simpsons, none of these games have ever managed to really capture the sharp humor and unique personalities of the Springfield universe, and none have really even proved to be much in the way of fun either. Thankfully, this trend has finally come to a close. The latest title to use the Simpsons name is The Simpsons: Hit & Run, an action adventure game that borrows heavily from the gameplay style and design of the recent entries in the Grand Theft Auto series and, in so doing, finally manages to bring the world of the Simpsons to life with proper justice.

While it’s not perfect, The Simpsons: Hit and Run is easily the greatest Simpsons game that’s been released. A solid script, good gameplay and a huge dose of humor makes this game stand out as a nice platformer. Unfortunately, technical issues prevent this game from truly standing out as exceptional. But, if you’re a fan of this long running show, you owe it to yourself to pick up and play this game.

There’s enough gameplay variety in here to keep things interesting. The humor, while aimed at the fans that watch the show religiously, is widely accessible. While not a perfect game, it does appear that the game Simpsons fans have been waiting for has arrived.

Though it's undeniably the perfect game for Simpsons fans, it's not the perfect game. A few shortcuts have been taken in terms of polish and veterans of Grand Theft Auto won't find that the title holds much surprise beyond the use of the license. The license itself is a damn compelling argument in favor of the game, with the strength of the argument being proportional to your love of the series. Since we love the series, that's a no brainer. Still the "been there, done that" style of gameplay means that the game seems somewhat predictable.

My initial reaction when I heard about this game was not one of enthusiasm. I had expected to find yet another Simpsons release with borrowed, simplified gameplay and a severely limited lifespan, but I was soon pleasantly surprised. The Simpsons Hit & Run lives up to its potential, giving Simpsons fans an authentic and enjoyable experience. With the crashing, and the funny, and the doo dads- GLAVIN! *ahem* One can’t argue with the quality and level of detail. The Multiplayer mode is disappointing, making for a significant weak link, but the Campaign mode more than makes up for it. No hardcore Simpsons fan should skip this offering, and even casual fans will get their money’s worth.

Overall, where can we go with this? It is a great cartoon spin off, and really is good fun to play. That's a bonus. Whilst the game isn't serious, or terribly challenging--which might deter the hardcore--it is The Simpsons. Existing fans of the cartoon (and there is a monstrous number of them) will love it. No question about that. There is very little in the way of violence, like GTA, so it is more suitable for children. At the same time, there is something uniquely satisfying in kicking a pedestrian and watching him roll around waggling his arms in a cartoon fashion. Great fun, enjoyed by all and a great spectator game- borne out by the fact that it was still in the top 20 for seven months following its release.

Well, I think I’m gonna go ahead and give this game a final rating of 8, but don’t let that fool you. Don’t run out and buy this one unless you’re a hardcore Simpsons fan. Rent it first. If you still love it after 3 days, then buy it.

The Simpsons Hit and Run is the first game that really captures the spirit of the show. The sharp wit of the series that has run 15 years finally comes through its excellent use of the characters. There have been 10 plus titles with The Simpsons name on them that have not really got it right. The Simpsons Hit and Run gets this part right. If you are a major fan of the television series and just want to walk and drive around Springfield and see the characters, this game allows you to in spades.

It's a bit of a shame that the game does have the few bugs and graphical issues that it does, but ultimately, these few problems shouldn't deter you from checking out what is easily the best Simpsons game released to date. Although the PC version of the game isn't the most ideally suited of the bunch, the game still holds up very well. If you missed out on the console versions of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, the PC version ultimately won't disappoint.

I was really impressed with Simpsons: Hit & Run when I first played it on the Xbox, and was equally impressed with the care taken in bringing it to the PC. It's not a hardcore epic like Grand Theft Auto and it's not a serious driving game, but it's definitely a lot of fun and a game no Simpsons fan should be without. If you don't already own one of the console versions, you can't go wrong with the PC version of Hit & Run.

It's almost impossible not to love, or at least passionately admire, The Simpsons Hit & Run. In the case of their tragic videogame history (minus the mind-numbingly addictive arcade game of early '90s fame), this one finally stops the hurt.

The Simpsons: Hit and Run features large, open-ended one-player environments with a multitude of secrets and sub-goals to discover in each area, plus a bonus race mode, courses that can be unlocked during regular play. Naturally, the twisted charm of the Simpsons television show should be considered a main feature, as well.

Hit & Run may have swiped nearly all of its gameplay ideas from GTA, but the combination of the vast Simpsons universe liberally applied to the GTA formula is pure brilliance. The game is true to the Simpsons TV show, the voice actors all nail their lines, the writing is sharp, hilarious and it catches you off guard again and again, and the gameplay is expansive, surprising and endearing. If you must own a Simpsons game, this is the one. If you have been dying to own a good Simpsons game, but have been cheated in the past, this one's worth it! If you're missing the thrill of GTA this year and want something, anything remotely similar, get this. And if you're just plain smart and you enjoy smashing things with your car, well, heh, yeah, just get this game already.

The number-one dysfunctional family in America makes a solid road trip around Springfield. The Simpsons video-game license has languished in the crappy exploitation category for so long that it’s easy to expect another bland hack-job to sully the reputation of television’s finest show. But lo and behold, this time something went right even the Comic Book Guy would be stoked.

With the current generation of game consoles, developers working on Simpsons tie-ins have seemingly been content to combine the gameplay of successful franchises with Simpsons audiovisuals, changing just enough of the core elements to avoid pesky lawsuits. The Simpsons Skateboarding was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater meets The Simpsons; The Simpsons Road Rage was Crazy Taxi meets The Simpsons. And now we have The Simpsons Hit & Run, which is Grand Theft Auto meets The Simpsons -- and the most entertaining Simpsons game ever made. Not just because the GTA gameplay formula is so potent (which it is), but because it makes such brilliant use of its tie-in material.

In the name of everything that is wrong with videogames, how is it that America's most wonderfully dysfunctional 2D family has finally landed a videogame that's worth its weight in pixels, parts and flat-meat Krusty Burgers? After years of miserable, half-realized, floundering attempts at videogames, how is it that someone has finally, finally created a videogame, with the Simpsons in it, that's any good? God only knows.

As a complete package, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is better than average. Even that smarmy Comic Book guy would be hard pressed not to recommened it. It'll appeal to any Simpsons fan and it'll probably appeal to any GTA fan as well. It's funny, it's packed with references to the show and I can't deny I personally had a lot of fun with it. Whether you want to take on the missions or just kick the hell out of people with Homer to hear their complaints or his quips, you'll probably enjoy this one.

There really isn't much more to say about the game. If you are a die-hard Simpsons fan, than this is a must have/rent, and even if you are not and just want a fun driving game, this one is for you. Clearly, Simpsons: Hit & Run is an exception to the rule. A game that’s this unoriginal and average when it comes to the actual gameplay shouldn’t be this fun to experience, but it is. You’ll find yourself wanting to progress into the game just to see how the story unfolds, and not because you’re actually having fun driving around to collect 20 monkeys scattered across Springfield. What Hit & Run lacks in design, it more than makes up for in presentation and story telling. The voice actors are at their full potential in this game, and the writing is hilarious. Fans of the show will definitely want to check this game out, and for those who wouldn’t mind running over Marge with your family Sedan car, you ought to pick it up too!

As a Simpsons fan, I can’t help but love Radical Entertainment’s The Simpsons: Hit & Run. Though, the reason behind that isn’t because of the title’s gameplay. No, it’s the humorous personality of the show that’s flawlessly recreated that I love. Any fan of the show will eat this game up as I did. However, those who are looking for some amazingly deep, innovative, refreshing, and polished gameplay may want to look somewhere else.

I'm going to ignore the "finally, a good Simpsons game!" intro that every review for The Simpsons: Hit and Run has begun with so far, and get right into it. It's an typical Wednesday in Springfield, and some crazy stuff is going on - robotic bees with spy cameras, strange black vans and a new flavor of cola is all connected to some strange possibly-wont-make-sense conspiracy, and it's up to the Simpsons to figure out what's going on. Taking the wheel as Homer, it's time to drive - whoops, was that Flanders or a speed bump? Do'h!

When all is said and done, Simpsons Hit and Run is an awesome concept that doesn't quite live up to its potential. Still, fans of the show will really enjoy immersing themselves in this colorful virtual world.

Dommage.

"Why can't anyone make a decent Simpsons game?" has been the plaintive wail of millions of gamers for over a decade now, tired of being fed licensed pap year upon year. With such a fantastically rich property to draw upon, it's almost criminal that various developers over the years have been able to get away with this systematic trashing of the brand. The depressing thing is every one has sold very well; Simpsons Road Rage has sold over 1.8 million in the last year alone for gawd's sake. What about this year's model?
