Battletoads in Battlemaniacs

Sound and music is nothing less than awesome as each tune fits the stage perfectly (especially stage six, probably one of the best game tunes ever) and kicks your adrenaline into high gear for the pace of the stage. The sounds are all great every smack, fwack, and biff fit each move perfectly. The only complaint I have with the music is that each tune relies on the same instrument too much and that takes away from the otherwise perfect score.

Battletoads in Battlemaniacs is dynamite! The game's so tough and such an eye-popper, that you won't mind the simple, two-button game play. If you're looking for an adventure that's lean, mean and green, jump on this game.

Spiele sollten natürlich nicht allzu leicht sein, doch für unfaire Stellen, die gleich im Sechserpack auftauchen, hat selbst der härteste Prügler wenig Verständnis. Allein der abwechslungsreiche Levelaufbau, eine eindrucksvolle Bonusrunde und der fetzige Soundtrack verhelfen der Klopperei zu einer überdurchschnittlichen Wertung. Die Mega-Drive-Version spielt sich deutlich besser.

The two-player version of this game is really neat. You and a friend can play where your hits hurt each other, or you can play where you can't even touch one another. If you're really good, you can use each other to create all-new team special moves to combat your enemies. Whether played alone or with a friend, this is one of the best Battletoads games out there.

Visually one of the best Super NES games around, but there's too much emphasis on looks and not enough on gameplay - it's no more advanced than the NES game.

Rare avait-il l'intention d'adapter sérieusement Battletoads sur Super Nintendo, avant d'être contraint de réduire leurs ambitions lors du développement ? Ou peut-être s'agissait-il d'un produit de commande pour Tradewest, l'éditeur de la série ? Quelle que soit la raison derrière ce résultat, le coeur n'y était pas. Malgré tout, c'est un assez beau jeu techniquement, l'animation du premier niveau, avec ses coulées de lave sur plusieurs plans, est impressionnante, tandis que le bonus stage, le décor de fond de la première course et l'antre des serpents sont un régal pour l'oeil. Il y a aussi l'intro, qui est longue, et de bonnes musiques rock comme celle en trois mouvements du second niveau qui va crescendo. A l'inverse, certains décors manquent de vie et de profondeur, on a du mal à imaginer l'univers Battletoads, et l'absence de bruitages dans certaines phases soutient la théorie d'un jeu précipité.

Solltet Ihr absolute Prügel- oder Battletoad-Fans sein und nach einem Abenteuer der Amphibien lechzen, könnt Ihr Euch die Super Nintendo-Toads zulegen. Alle anderen sollten sich angesichts des etwas veralteten und 8-Bitigen Charakters des Moduls einen Kauf zweimal überlegen. In dieser Fassung sind die Kröten keine ernstzunehmende Konkurrenz für die Hero-Turtles.

This side-scrolling brawler pits one or two toad warriors against a bizarre assortment of enemies including pigs, wasps, snakes, rats and skeletons. Some of the animals are dressed in funny little outfits, and I love how the skeleton heads bounce in place when you punch them. The bosses can be towering in height, and the "dark queen" is a real eyeful (if you know what I mean, wink wink, nudge nudge). Sadly, good graphics do not necessarily make a good game. The main problem with this Battlemaniacs is its long, repetitive levels. There are five unimaginative stages, starting with an underground cave with pools of lava, followed by a floating disk that descends further into the earth. Hey, I think I've played this game before! You'll face the same enemies over and over, and they require an excessive number of hits to defeat. Worst of all, when you die you have to restart the whole level, which can be excruciating.
