However, the ability to play as the different characters, plus fun, diverse, challenging gameplay, make it a real contender - you decide which cart you think is better. If you're crazy for Clark Kent or you're a Man of Steel.

All things considered, The Death and Return of Superman had me coming back to my Super NES regularly. After a while, you just get addicted to thrashing people as the different Superman and the mystery element of the game is very appealing. Even if you know who the real Superman is from reading the comics, it's just really boss being them. Yeah, the game is pretty righteous. You might say it's...super.

The Death and Return of Superman still plays fairly well and it isn't a total disappointment --- especially if you're a fan of the comics. It's fun to go up against heavy-hitters like Doomsday and the basic premise is well done. I just wish they'd spent more time following through on what could have been an excellent cart. As it is, The Death and Return of Superman ends up falling short of "super" status.

Death and Return of Superman isn’t an easy one to call, because it’s not a bad game. In fact, it’s one of the best Superman games yet made. Unfortunately, that’s not saying much – and there’s certainly lots of room for improvement here. It retells and pulls from the Death of Superman series well, but astoundingly repetitive enemies and attacks don’t do Supes justice. Fairly average brawler overall, and games like Batman Returns (SNES) or Maximum Carnage are much better choices if you’re not specifically out to play as The Man of Steel.

Although there are plenty of methods of attack in this game (heat vision, bombs, energy blasts, etc.), your primary method of attack, running around and punching with your fists, can get a little old after a while. Even so, this is one of the better superhero games for the Super Nintendo, and you'll have a good time playing it.

Average. That's the best word to describe this game. The moves are average, the plot is average and this will only appeal to those who worship the comic books. Repetitive is another word that comes to mind. Although games of this nature have the same enemies over and over, this game is even worse; even the background repeats excessively. As it stands, more variety and better control would certainly help.
