The SNES version is missing The Band Concert bonus level found in the Genesis version - a wild, vertical scrolling stage that's actually a big loss. However, the graphics are so much more lush and detailed, it's almost worth it. That Disney quality shines through in every frame.

Mickey Mania is a true gem; the graphics, sounds and playability are excellent examples of the way all games should be designed.

Fantastic graphics and historically important cartoons are all well and good, but what about the action? Well . . . It's not bad. The controls are excellent, but the puzzles are simplistic. The enemies may look great, but few of them are truly exciting to engage in battle. One major plus in the gameplay department is variety. Although not overly difficult, each level offers its own unique mix of challenges and adventures. From a moose chasing Mickey toward the screen to Mickey having to ride a series of gurneys and elevators, lots of things are crammed into this package. You'll have a good time playing Mickey Mania and a great time watching the beautiful scenery unfold before your eyes.

Mickey Mania looks great, provides a great Mickey-ography and dishes out hefty challenges. Yet, what some gamers call challenging, other will call tedious. Rats...Mickey Mania is a little down in the mouse.

Unfortunately, other stages are not as well crafted, and a few are downright infuriating. In the Mad Doctor level, you'll need to deal with skeletons whose bones spray all over the place as they "explode", resulting in many cheap hits. Later in the same stage you'll need to leap between rolling tables, and missing a table will cost you a life even if you land on solid ground! I should also mention the "loading" times. Yes, you read it right, this cartridge forces you to wait about ten seconds between stage segments. I can only assume they compressed the data in order to save memory and minimize manufacturing costs. The lack of a password feature is equally unforgivable, considering this is a 1994 game. Mickey Mania introduces a few bright ideas, but I expect my Disney games to be more polished than this.
